Chapter 8: Chapter 8
Vegeta III had just gotten to his feet when Saigo's words brought forth a flood of humiliating memories.
His pupils shrank abruptly, cold sweat cascading down his face as if he had glimpsed ultimate terror itself.
The memory, vivid and undeniable, confirmed the truth of Saigo's earlier words. The Super Saiyan God—perhaps it truly existed!
And the legendary Super Saiyan might be real too!
The God of Destruction—Beerus!
That monster, who had crushed his will to resist, resurfaced in his mind.
In an instant, the painful memories vividly replayed, leaving him trembling with fear.
"Thud! Thud! Thud!"
Vegeta III staggered backward, terror etched across his face.
Seeing Vegeta III trapped in the grip of his harrowing recollections, Saigo extended his hand and released a burst of Ki toward him.
Whoosh!
Boom!
Vegeta III was pushed back several steps by the force of Saigo's Ki blast, collapsing onto the ground in a heap. The blow jarred him out of his painful reverie. Gasping for breath, he slumped to the floor, leaning back on his hands, eyes wide as he gulped down air.
"Hmph! Remember now? Stop strutting around like you're the strongest in the universe. Anyone who didn't know better might actually believe you!"
As Saigo lectured him, he noticed the previously unconscious guards stirring. Without delay, he leapt down from the throne, landing beside Vegeta III.
"Get up already! Your guards are waking up. Once they're fully conscious, tell them to find a reliable group of elite warriors for me. I don't care about their rank, just their current combat power. Gather twenty of the strongest. Understood?"
Vegeta III caught his breath, composed himself, and stood up. He shot Saigo a grateful yet cautious glance before nodding and flying back toward the throne, though he refrained from sitting down.
As Vegeta III steadied himself, the four elite guards on the ground began to slowly regain consciousness.
They struggled to their feet, their minds clearing bit by bit.
As their vision sharpened, Saigo's figure came into view.
In an instant, anger flared in their hearts. One guard even snarled in rage.
"You bastard! How dare you ambush me! Prepare to die!"
The group glared fiercely at Saigo, their fists clenched, ready to charge at him.
Just then, a stern shout rang out from behind them.
"What are you doing? Stand down!"
"Have you embarrassed yourselves enough? Back off!"
Hearing Vegeta III's commanding voice, the four guards stopped abruptly in their tracks.
Though their breathing was ragged and the flames of rage still flickered in their eyes, reason began to prevail. However, their intense glares remained fixed on Saigo, silently vowing revenge.
After a tense moment, they gritted their teeth, stifled their anger, and reluctantly returned to their positions. They did their best to avoid looking at Saigo but could not entirely suppress their seething emotions.
Vegeta III observed their behavior, grinding his teeth in frustration.
These fools!
They don't even know how strong Saigo really is, and they dare to hold grudges against him?
Thank the stars he didn't lose his temper. If he had decided to kill you, I wouldn't have been able to stop him!
Growing increasingly irritated, Vegeta III issued a direct order.
"You four, go immediately and find twenty elite warriors with the highest combat power, regardless of rank! And make sure it's done discreetly. Recall those who are away on missions as well!"
The four elites quickly turned to face Vegeta III and saluted.
"Yes, King Vegeta!"
As they passed Saigo on their way out, they couldn't resist muttering threats under their breath.
"You'll pay for this, punk!" x4
To each of them, Saigo calmly replied, "I'll be waiting!"
The sheer composure in his voice made their blood boil. They glared daggers at him before finally storming out, burning with indignation.
Once the four had left, Vegeta III could no longer maintain his composure. He darted to Saigo's side, his face full of apologies.
"Lord Saigo, I beg your forgiveness! This is entirely my fault for failing to discipline my subordinates properly. Please punish me as you see fit!"
Saigo waved dismissively. "What's done is done. I won't dwell on it. But if you want me to lead the Saiyan race to greatness as its king, you'll have to do things my way—no arguments. Can you manage that?"
To ensure his cooperation, Saigo dangled an irresistible bait.
"If you follow my guidance, the Super Saiyan will no longer be a mere legend—it'll become reality. The choice is yours."
The promise struck a chord deep within Vegeta III's soul. To become a Super Saiyan was his greatest dream, one he had long believed impossible. But now, hope seemed within reach.
Overcome with emotion, he knelt again, swearing his loyalty.
"Lord Saigo, from now on, your word is my command! Your guidance is the compass by which I will navigate! Whatever you decree, I shall obey without question!"
As expected, Saigo mused. No Saiyan can resist the allure of the Super Saiyan legend.
Outwardly, he maintained a stern demeanor. "Good. Now, get up. I'll explain what you need to do to deceive Frieza's spies. Come closer."
"Yes, my lord!"
…
After a lengthy discussion lasting over ten minutes, Saigo finished outlining his plans.
Vegeta III hesitated before voicing his concerns.
"Lord Saigo, wouldn't this play directly into Frieza's trap to capture all Saiyans at once? The lower-class warriors deployed outside… perhaps they shouldn't be recalled?"
"Fool!" Saigo scolded. "Why can't you see the bigger picture? Our actions are meant to create a false impression—to make Frieza believe we're diligently complying with his orders to assemble all Saiyans!"
"We must recall everyone, even sending out search parties to retrieve them! The more overt our efforts, the more convinced Frieza will be of our compliance. This buys us precious time to prepare and increases our chances of resisting him. It's a win-win scenario, so why hesitate?"
"Even if you don't fully understand, you'll follow my instructions. Bringing our people back is inevitable anyway. Why not use the enemy to spread the word for us? It saves resources and ensures the return of our wandering kin!"
Saigo's explanation lit a spark of understanding in Vegeta III's mind.
"Yes! Lord Saigo, your strategy is brilliant! Truly, you are the savior of the Saiyan race!"
Saigo smirked internally but feigned irritation. "Enough flattery! Focus on getting things done!"
"By the way, do you have a secret base?"
Vegeta III nodded eagerly. "Yes, Lord Saigo! What are your plans?"
"Good. Lead me there immediately. And when the twenty elites are assembled, make sure none of them wear scouters purchased from Frieza. You have your own detection devices, don't you?"
"We do!"
"Perfect. Include yourself, Bardock's squad, and Paragus's squad in the twenty. Gather them all and bring them to me when ready. For now, take me to the secret base!"
"As you command, Lord Saigo! This way, please!"
