As they walked through the Resistance's underground stronghold, Elsa kept her pace steady, but Aiden could tell she was watching him carefully. She didn't fully trust him—yet.
"The first time we saw your father was about a week ago," she began, keeping her voice low. "We were in the middle of a fight with the Valkyries. It wasn't going well."
Aiden glanced at her. "And then he showed up?"
She nodded. "Dropped into the middle of the battlefield like he belonged there. No hesitation. Fought alongside us, covered our retreat, and damn near saved everyone's asses." A small smirk tugged at her lips. "Didn't even ask for anything in return."
Aiden listened quietly, processing the words. That sounded like his dad.
"After that, we brought him here," Elsa continued. "Ran some tests—had to make sure he wasn't bugged or compromised. Once he checked out, we made it official. He became one of us."
Aiden exhaled through his nose, a strange mix of relief and frustration settling in his chest. His father was alive. That was the important thing. But something still didn't sit right with him.
"You also mentioned someone named Valeria was interested in him," he said, watching Elsa's reaction.
She let out a long, exaggerated sigh. "Yeah, Valeria. Annoying as hell. She's the brains of the Resistance—"
Before she could finish, the heavy doors in front of them slid open with a mechanical hiss.
"Correction," a voice cut in. "I'm the brains and the leader of the Resistance."
Aiden turned his head toward the source of the voice.
Standing in the doorway was a woman who radiated authority, intelligence, and confidence. Her piercing blue eyes were locked onto him, scanning him as if she could strip him apart with her gaze alone. But after a moment, her expression darkened slightly.
Something was wrong.
Aiden arched a brow. "You planning to keep staring, or are you gonna say something?"
Valeria's eyes narrowed before she finally spoke. "I'm Valeria Richards."
Richards.
Aiden's mind immediately made the connection. Reed Richards? His gaze flicked over her again, this time taking in more details.
She was stunning. Long, golden-blonde hair cascaded down her back, framing a face that was both sharp and elegant. Her deep blue eyes, intelligent and calculating, were set beneath well-defined brows. She wore a sleek black bodysuit, reinforced with subtle silver lines—advanced tech, no doubt. The way she carried herself, the way she stood—she was dangerous. But in a different way. Not a warrior. A strategist. A mastermind.
He smirked. "Figures. Guess genius runs in the family."
Valeria tilted her head slightly. "And you are?"
"Aiden Blake," he said. "Son of Jason Blake."
Something flickered across her face at the name.
"I came here for my father," Aiden continued, his voice even. "I appreciate the hospitality, but I'm taking him home. So if you wouldn't mind…"
Valeria studied him for a moment, then nodded. "Follow me."
She turned sharply and walked ahead, leading him through the corridors. As they moved, her voice remained calm and measured.
"Your father has been working with us. He's been invaluable, actually," she admitted. "But a few days ago, he was injured during a mission. Thor's advisor attacked us."
Aiden's eyes darkened at the name.
"She caught us off guard," Valeria continued. "Used some kind of magic. We managed to escape, but your father… he took the worst of it."
They reached a set of thick steel doors. Valeria input a code, and the doors slid open. Inside was the infirmary.
The moment Aiden stepped inside, he felt it.
A heavy, suffocating presence.
Valeria walked over to a bed in the corner and pulled back the curtain.
Aiden's breath caught.
His father lay there, motionless. His skin was deathly pale, sweat glistening on his forehead. Black tendrils spread from his chest up to his neck, pulsing faintly. Whatever this was, it wasn't just a wound.
Aiden clenched his fists and took a slow step forward. He reached out, placing a hand over his father's chest. His Water Dragon Slayer Magic flowed through him, energy surging into his father's body—
Nothing.
The magic didn't take.
'This is.....A Curse.'
Aiden's jaw tightened as the realization hit. His healing wouldn't work. This wasn't just any injury. This was something else entirely.
Valeria's sharp gaze flicked toward Aiden. "What exactly are you doing?"
Aiden didn't look away from his father as he answered. "Trying to heal him."
Elsa's brow furrowed before her eyes widened in realization. "Wait… is this the same magic you used on my hand?"
He gave a small nod. "Yeah."
Her lips parted slightly. That same magic had healed her in mere moments, something no medicine or tech could do. If it worked on this…
But then Aiden pulled his hand back, frowning. His magic had done nothing.
His gaze shifted toward Valeria. "Are there others cursed like my father?"
Valeria's expression barely changed, but a slight crease formed between her brows. He figured it out.
"You recognized it as a curse?" she asked, intrigued.
Aiden met her gaze, his voice calm but confident. "When it comes to identifying magic, I'm probably the most proficient in the world."
A bold claim. One that would have sounded arrogant coming from anyone else. But the way he said it… Valeria couldn't tell if it was confidence or simple fact.
After a brief pause, she turned on her heel. "Follow me."
They moved deeper into the base, through winding hallways and secured doors, until they reached a large chamber. The moment the doors slid open, Aiden's eyes narrowed.
Inside, dozens of people lay in beds—just like his father. Their bodies were weak, their veins laced with the same black tendrils that pulsed ominously beneath their skin.
The sight made his stomach turn.
'So many…'
His mind raced, considering his options. Then, a thought struck him. It was possible. It was dangerous, but… possible.
Aiden exhaled slowly, then moved to the center of the room.
Elsa and Valeria watched as he lowered himself onto the floor, crossing his legs.
"What are you—" Valeria started, but stopped as the air shifted.
Dark energy began to stir around him, tendrils of cursed magic unraveling from each victim, drawn toward Aiden. The swirling black mist slithered toward him, wrapping around his body like smoke.
Elsa took an instinctive step back.
The cursed energy coiled, pulsed, then slowly began seeping into Aiden's mouth.
At first, he felt the overwhelming cold of the curse seep into his veins. His heart clenched, a suffocating weight settling deep in his chest. The black tendrils of corruption twisted and reached for his core, coiling around his heart like a noose.
But then—
Fire ignited inside him.
A searing heat burned through his body, pushing back against the invading curse. The flames roared, consuming the darkness, purging it inch by inch. The pain was immense, but Aiden grit his teeth and endured it.
Slowly, the last traces of the curse were drawn into him.
The room fell silent.
A system notification flickered in his mind.
{Curse Dragon Slayer Magic: 0.7%}
Aiden's eyes snapped open. His fingers twitched as he processed the number.
"Only 0.7%?" He frowned. "All that cursed energy, and I barely got that much? That's insane…"
A groan echoed through the chamber.
Aiden turned just in time to see the patients begin to stir. One by one, their eyes fluttered open, their skin regaining color as the black tendrils vanished completely.
Elsa had her mouth slightly open in shock.
For the first time ever, someone had survived the Enchantress Amara's curse.
Valeria, usually unreadable, stood still—her mind racing.
Even she hadn't been able to solve the curse.
And yet… he just did.
Aiden didn't pause to celebrate. He immediately rushed to his father's bedside.
Jason Blake's eyelids fluttered, his body slowly regaining warmth. Then, his weary eyes finally locked onto Aiden.
His gaze softened.
"…Son?" his voice was hoarse, but steady.
A tired, but relieved smile crossed his lips.
"You're here."
