Chapter 613: Chaos vs. Void (II)
--
The Void was boiling with killing intent...
Even before the break of dawn, the sensors were already noisy, releasing alerts of the void density levels going up crazily. It was a sign that something big was about to happen.
Nobody was surprised, though. Instead, everybody in the Border Patrol Office was as ready as they could ever be for the upcoming confrontation.
They had been informed of the possible consequences before Cedric made a move. It wasn't a secret that this Paragon had been running around the void, scheming and planning to deal permanent damage to their enemies. And he came through. He did figure out something. He blew up the womb that's responsible for the Void Creatures' reproduction.
Its destruction was confirmed; Cedric had no reason to lie to them. The reaction of the void also confirms this.
With that womb gone, the chance to deal permanent damage to the population of the void was an opportunity they simply couldn't miss. That's why they're all here now, waiting for the horde to arrive, prepared to hold their positions and to not let even a single void creature into the realm.
Screech!!
That awful and pitchy screech came from the surveillance camera on the other side. And it was also the first signal to the void's arrival.
And it certainly didn't take long before they came pouring in...
As if not learning their lesson at all, the horde funneled through the areas where the guardians wanted them to be. They anticipated that something would be different this time since this was supposed to be a big deal, but no, the same old tactics still worked on them like a charm.
The horde was funneled through the gates, preventing them from gnawing at the wall that kept the realm safe, limiting their movement, and controlling their flow.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
All sorts of modern weaponry fired at will at the wide-open gates, decimating anything moving that came out of the gates, not stopping until there's nothing left.
The comms lit up with real-time reports. There were strings of numbers, descriptions, alerts, and so on. The guardians are being informed of how many, how strong, and how much is left on the other side, allowing them to always be a step ahead of the void.
"Kill, brothers and sisters! Kill!"
"Fuck you, abominations! Get out of this realm!"
"You're not welcome here! Die!"
Guardians of all strength spectrum bared their fangs at the invaders, completely and utterly hostile to their arrival. They held nothing back, using all methods they could think of to deal with the incoming horde.
Above the skies and overlooking the entire operations, the Chancellors and Paragons could be seen. They were scattered in all the camps, vigilant of any developments that might occur and ready to respond at any given moment.
They were anticipating something because, deep down, they knew that this was the deciding moment in the long history of the Border Patrol Office. The chance to deal permanent damage to the void was a chance that they simply couldn't afford to miss. They will not entertain mistakes here; in this operation, only success is permitted.
Having said that...the void was no simple enemy. It's not something to be trifled with.
The wrath, loss, heartache, and determination of the Void Prince weren't just his. As the de facto leader of the void army and the holy son of the void's main consciousness, he was born special.
Even with the main consciousness of the Void sealed, the Void Prince can still exert his will and influence on the void, and he could do so many things with it, like bestowing a blessing on his army, making them more feral, durable, and relentless.
The effect of this blessing was obvious for the guardians because the enemies that should usually die after taking a solid hit from their cannons now die after two shots. The dense void air was also pouring out of the gates, and these creatures are using it to accelerate their healing or to empower themselves even more.
And despite crippling their main reproduction method, there are still just too many of them out there. Their raw numbers easily surpassed the total amount of guardians there were. If it weren't for the weapons of mass destruction aimed at them, the void could've easily swallowed the camps whole.
Time passed by in the thick of this chaos, and soon, it'd be the 6th hour since it all started. But to the guardians, it felt like years already with how hectic everything has been.
Their weapons overheated, were repaired, and fired nonstop at the seemingly endless horde pouring out of the gates. If one were to calculate just how many resources they've used in the past six hours alone, the numbers could easily make anybody nervous and uneasy because it has truly been a lot.
Thankfully, nobody has the time to care about that. Their main focus was to eradicate the horde.
During this time, some of the Paragons were forced to make a move. The reason wasn't anything huge. They just had to cover for areas that had malfunctions amidst the defense. They assisted just long enough for the others to get back to their feet and then left afterwards. After all, it's not yet time for the Paragons to make an appearance.
It didn't take long before that happened, though...
Beep!
Dear Paragons, please be ready for deployment. The Royal Guards are approaching! ]
The comms lit up with a message to them.
Somebody dialed and asked, "Any sightings of the Prince?"
[None so far. He should still be at the far back.
There was no need to continue after that. The Paragons, minus Cedric, looked at each other and nodded.
Looking closely, none of them were wearing void suits anymore. Yeah, ever since they transitioned to the Void Refinement Realm, their need for Void Suits disappeared entirely. No matter how dense or how suffocating the void density becomes, they'd be just fine. At worst, it'd just smell like an open sewer to them.
But weapons and armor made from materials harvested from the void were still useful to them. In fact, they prefer it more compared to the materials gathered from the realm. The real selling factor of this equipment was its incredible durability and its innate effectiveness against the void creatures.
With the heads-up, the Paragons were ready to move at any given moment. Every single one of them looked solemn; their minds have never been sharper and more determined.
The plan was simple: kill all the Royal Guards they encounter.
Without the womb, there will be no resurrection for them. And while they might be strong, their numbers aren't as large as the common void creatures. Killing them will definitely hurt the horde, and that's precisely why they have to die, even if it means having the paragons take them out with themselves.
[They're here. It's your turn, Dear Paragons! ]
They didn't have to be told twice. At the first signal, they turned into streaks of light, coming out of their hiding spots, descending into the areas where the Royal Guards appeared, and confronting them directly.
Somebody from the HQ roared, "Launch the isolation barriers, now!"
With that command, an isolation zone encased the Royal Guards and the Paragons, separating them from the still pouring horde.
The Paragons were now trapped with them, and unless they manage to kill the Royal Guard trapped with them, this isolation barrier will not be removed.
The barrier didn't just isolate the dangerous might of the Royal Guards; it also isolated their influence to their immediate environment. The mere presence of the Royal Guards strengthens the army around it, making them more difficult to deal with. But with them isolated like this, that influence was cut off.
This was the response the guardians had to this invasion. It also displayed just how determined they are to leave a gaping wound in the void's army even at the cost of their own.
The Royal Guards were strong, far stronger than the last time they'd seen and fought them, and it's clearly due to the influence of the Void Prince.
But the Paragons weren't pushovers either. They're no longer the same as before.
With Cedric around and the re-emergence of the Primordial Chaos Path, most of them have become Primordial Realm experts too. They're not afraid of the void; in fact, they've been waiting for this chance for so long. And now that it's here, there's no way they'd miss it.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The Paragons were merciless in their attacks. They didn't talk, wait, or waste any time. The moment they were sealed inside with these abominations, they moved with the intent to kill, and their animosity almost equaled what the Royal Guards had.
And every single attack they did hurts...
It hurt the Royal Guards so bad that the pain pierced through the haze of their wrath. This was something that they didn't expect, but it's also a fight they can't back down from either.
Through this, the Paragons just grinned ferociously. One of them shouted,
"Alright, boys! Time to nut up or shut up!"
"Kill!!!"
