Chapter 3: : The Child Must Be Exorcise
In a dimly lit room.
The grunting of a woman was the only thing that could be heard in the room.
The pants of the woman echoed throughout the room.
"The head is coming out, Mistress Nadia. Keep pushing," the midwife attending to her assured her she would put to birth safely.
Cries of a baby now joined the pants of the woman in the room; after all, she had just given birth.
The room was a simple room with open space and a mat flooring. Sliding doors made of paper screens separated each quarter of the house.
And the room was well lit, with soft, natural light filtering through the screens.
At this point, the midwives filled the room as they shuffled, tending to the mistress and the baby.
The cries of the baby slowly calmed as the infant struggled to open his little eyes, the world before him blurry for a bit.
Until he got used to the lights.
'I made it?' thought the baby.
Facing him was Mistress Nadia, who was smiling at how adorable he looked.
'Wait? This wasn't the agreement... I came back but—this wasn't what I expected.'
The baby thought, an assortment of curiosity and surprise mixed with shock on his tender face.
"Please inform Lord Frost about his child," said Mistress Nadia. "He has just like his father's ice-colored eyes," she smiled.
For the baby, he had no idea what she said, but judging by how the midwife bowed and walked out with a smile—
He was certain she was sent out to call an important person.
'This doesn't seem right. How come I'm not in a hospital? Wait... Huh? This isn't my dimension? Fuck, fuck, fuck—Hades,' the baby grunted.
As the name Hades formed in his head, suddenly, he saw the same cloaked figure that had rowed a boat toward him.
The grim reaper was standing beside the bed with his scythe.
His red glowing eyes, concealed in the darkness of the tattered robe, were staring at the baby, who felt fear.
"O child of Hades, you called for thy father?"
---
Meanwhile...
Inside a broad room, on top of the rectangular big table, was a map.
Not just any big map filling the whole table—
The map comprised their current location with a green light, and other locations with their dimensions.
At both sides, three exorcists stood looking at the map, while at the edge was the baby's father, Master of the Frozen Clan.
"This came as a shock to me. The demons in our dimension suddenly went missing," said an exorcist with a long white beard.
"They didn't go missing. Other dimensions also wondered what happened to their demons."
"It was like a global death for those who worshipped the doctrine of a fallen god," said Frost.
They were all thinking: what could possibly make bad people suddenly die by themselves?
A lot of them sleeping and never waking up—only to be buried or rot to death.
And it was all happening today.
"Could it be it's your son?" a man with a holy doctrine spoke. He smiled, noticing everyone shared a glance at him.
"What do you mean the Master's son?"
"Think about it: demons suddenly dying by themselves, dark followers never waking up—what if your son carries the presence of a great Jah?"
Having heard that, the room was silent. "But my wife has not yet—"
Before the clan master could conclude, a knock was heard. Sliding the door, they saw a midwife.
"Lord Frost, I bring great news," she said, bowing her head.
The exorcists looked at themselves, precisely staring at the one who just talked about the Master's unborn child.
The midwife was given the chance to speak, and it was no doubt anymore.
"Mistress Nadia has put to birth safely."
---
'They can't sense or see him?' thought the baby.
Yet again, he was surprised by how the grim reaper was able to reply to his inward statement.
"No, they can't, Child of Hades."
Exorcists were supposed to detect demons within a thousand-radius, but this one was even in the room.
It was either they didn't practice the teachings of exorcists, or they were still unawakened, or the demon was most praised in concealing its presence.
'Well then, I have a question. This wasn't the negotiation I proposed. I should be sent back at once. Why am I here in this body? This isn't my world.'
He felt animated by how Hades had somehow double-crossed him.
"Child of Hades, I cannot go against thy Father's will."
Mistress Nadia felt the baby sigh but mistook it as a breath. Looking at him, his eyes were closed before they slowly opened.
'Okay, fine. Tell me, is this another world of those bullshit exorcists? And what has thy father given me to protect myself?'
The grim reaper remained quiet, wordlessly staring at the baby.
"Oh, husband, you've come."
Just like how the grim reaper was staring at the baby, Lord Frost was doing the same.
"Is something the matter, my Lord?" asked Mistress Nadia. "Why are you staring at your child that way?"
Even the baby was confused; the presence of this man was unwelcoming.
He was putting on a white robe with a black belt, like those dojo masters, and behind his back was the emblem of an exorcist.
'Is that... Grand Exorcist?'
It appeared the grim reaper was no longer looking at the baby, but rather at his father.
"Demon, leave at once before I exorcise you," said Lord Frost.
And immediately, the grim reaper had disappeared from the baby's sight.
"Why would you call my baby a demon?" Mistress Nadia, who was confused just like the rest of the exorcists and midwives in the room, was provoked to hear that.
While the baby shut his eyes, his tender face now mixed with fear, worry, and sweat. 'I'm dead,' he thought.
He had just arrived, and he was about to die? No chance given to protect himself. A pathetic death.
"Forgive me, my Mistress," said Lord Frost.
The exorcists behind him were still clueless. When they entered the room, they hadn't sensed anything. Unlike a Grand Exorcist, they were saints and few divine.
"The child invites demons to this house. He must be exorcised."
Williams opened his eyes in shock.
His heart skipped a beat for nearly a minute.
'Fuck.'
