Chapter 52: Ch 52 : Two weaknesses
"What did you say? I have two weaknesses? Nonsense! The magic given to me by my master is perfect!"
Hearing Noel's words, Reign felt a surge of anger.
He had already inflicted wounds on Noel and had been suppressing him the entire fight, yet this guy still had the audacity to act so arrogant.
Noel smirked. "I never lie. Your magic is indeed powerful, but because you can't unleash its full potential, you have two fatal weaknesses."
"What?!"
Reign's rage boiled over at Noel's provocative words.
With a wave of his hand, over thirty weapons surged toward Noel.
"Since you're so confident, let's see you prove it!"
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Over thirty weapons struck Noel's position, engulfing him in a cloud of dust and explosions.
"Hmph, just a loudmouth." Reign scoffed as he watched.
"Your first weakness..."
A voice suddenly echoed from within the smoke, making Reign's heart skip a beat.
He immediately waved his hand again, sending another twenty weapons toward the source of the sound.
Whoosh!
Noel shot out from the smoke at incredible speed, completely ignoring the incoming weapons as he charged directly toward Reign.
For a brief moment, Reign thought Noel had gone mad.
But in the next instant, Noel leaped lightly into the air, slipping through the gaps between the weapons in the storm-like barrage.
In one fluid motion, he grabbed a floating blade from the weapon swarm and used it to deflect the attacks that could have hit him.
Before Reign could react, Noel had already broken through the barrage and was right in front of him.
(This is bad!)
Panic surged through Reign's mind.
In his haste, he reached out and grabbed one of the swords hovering at his side, raising it to defend himself.
"[Piercing Beam]!"
A massive beam of light erupted from Noel's hand, blasting Reign's sword away and sending him flying backward.
The sheer force of the attack embedded Reign into the wall before he crashed to the ground.
"Pfft—"
Reign, who had fallen to the ground, coughed up a mouthful of blood but immediately stood up, wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth.
Noel spoke calmly, "Your first weakness: Your control over these weapons isn't precise enough. In the midst of your weapon barrage, there is an almost imperceptible weak point at a certain instant. This weak point has the lowest attack power among the barrage, which means that with my skill, I can break through at that moment. Furthermore, because your magic has an activation interval of about 0.5 seconds, in this confined space, you can't create enough distance to keep me suppressed. That 0.5-second gap is more than enough for me to break through your weapons and launch an attack."
Reign narrowed his eyes. "You took that kind of risk based on nothing more than unverified assumptions? What if you had missed that opening? What if those gaps were intentional bait? What if you miscalculated my magic's interval or I was holding back? What would you have done then?"
Noel shrugged and smirked slightly. "Then I'd just consider myself unlucky and take your attack head-on."
His lighthearted tone suggested he wasn't at all concerned about the fact that a direct hit from Reign's magic could have very well killed him.
"...You're insane."
After a long silence, Reign spat out those words.
"Still, it looks like I can only use that trick once."
Noting the newfound seriousness in Reign's eyes, Noel knew that his little trick wouldn't work a second time.
With Reign's skill, he would definitely pay closer attention to the gaps in his weapon formation next time.
But Noel wasn't too concerned—he had never intended to rely on that method to win in the first place.
"Then, let's continue."
Reign snapped his fingers.
The massive purple gate opened once more, summoning dozens of weapons that hovered around him.
In an instant, the weapon barrage surged forward again.
The battle returned to its initial state—Noel maneuvered skillfully, dodging while Reign relentlessly pursued him.
(What outstanding talent... Even with just a single remark from me, he's already minimized the gaps between his weapons to the point where they're almost impossible to exploit.)
Even in the face of an unfavorable battle, Noel still had the time to admire his opponent's magical aptitude.
"But... I shouldn't keep stalling. Erza and the others have already been up there for quite some time."
Muttering under his breath, Noel deliberately slowed his movements.
In that brief moment of reduced speed, the weapon barrage behind him closed in.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
A series of explosions erupted, and once again, the room was engulfed in a thick cloud of dust.
Seeing this, Reign did not let down his guard.
Instead, he immediately gathered all the weapons around him in front of him, preparing for the possibility of a repeat of what had happened before.
Although outwardly he seemed fine, in reality, taking Noel's [Piercing Light Beam] head-on had already inflicted significant damage on him.
"Your second weakness..."
A sudden voice rang out, sending a chill down Reign's spine.
This time, however, the voice did not come from within the dust cloud—it was impossible to pinpoint where it originated.
"Your magic is indeed an exceptionally powerful offensive magic, so powerful that it does not require defensive techniques. Its sheer, relentless firepower is enough to crush any enemy head-on... but only from the front."
Before Reign could fully grasp the meaning of Noel's words, a white light suddenly appeared behind him.
(No way!!)
A terrible realization struck Reign, but it was already too late.
The moment he turned his head, a sword of pure white light had already struck his defenseless back.
"[Holy Light Magic – Sword of Radiance]"
BOOM!
The impact sent smoke and dust scattering as Reign was blasted across the floor, leaving a deep trail of scratches in the ground.
His clothes were shredded by the force of the attack, leaving him in a completely disheveled state.
"...When... did you...?"
Lying on the ground, Reign's lips trembled as he struggled to form the question.
Noel responded calmly, "From the very moment I took your attack head-on for the first time, I used the moment the dust cloud spread to create a clone. Then, while you were distracted by my clone and its words, I used my magic to bend the light around me, temporarily creating a pseudo-invisibility effect. The second time we fought, your focus was entirely on the front—this was the opportunity I had been waiting for."
"Cough… So, everything… was within your calculations?" Reign coughed up a mouthful of blood, smiling bitterly.
Noel nodded. "Don't bother struggling. You took my [Sword of Judgment] completely unguarded—your ribs have already punctured your internal organs. Without several months of recovery, you won't even be able to stand again."
With that, Noel began walking toward Reign, intending to restrain him.
However, the next scene made Noel's usually calm expression twist in shock.
Lying on the ground, Reign suddenly started punching himself in the abdomen.
BAM! BAM! BAM!
With each brutal strike, his face twisted in agony—until a sickening crack echoed through the room.
(He actually… broke off the ribs that had pierced his organs?!)
Reign's body trembled violently as he struggled to his feet, inch by inch. "I… can't lose… I absolutely can't lose… How could I lose? I… must never lose."
Noel remained silent, his mind shaken.
The sheer disregard for his own life… Was this boy really so desperate not to lose to him?
Unable to suppress his curiosity, Noel finally asked, "Why…? Why are you so determined?"
Still gasping for breath, Reign forced out his words between ragged pants.
"Master… doesn't need… useless tools… So… I can't lose… Even if I die… I can't lose… If I lose… Master will abandon me… No… I don't want that… So I must not lose… I must not lose!"
