Fairy Tail Destiny

Chapter 55: Ch 55 : Lie

Looking at Jellal, whose throat was pinned by her sword, Erza spoke:

"R-System was never actually completed, was it? Over these past eight years, I haven't been idle. I've conducted some investigations on R-System. While its structure and principles match the original design, there is a crucial missing component…"

"I already told you—I'll use you as the sacrifice…"

"Before that, there's one more problem—the missing component is… magic power." Erza watched as Jellal's expression changed and continued, "To activate such an enormous magic spell, an immense amount of magic power is required. Even if you gathered all the wizards on the continent, it might still not be enough. Human magic alone is out of the question, and even this tower could never store such an overwhelming amount of magic. Moreover, you knew about the Council's attack and yet didn't attempt to escape. What are you really thinking?"

"There are only three minutes left until Etherion falls…"

Looking at Jellal before her, Erza raised her voice, "Jellal, your dream has long since collapsed. Are you really willing to just die like this? Is that your true wish?"

"Ah… that's not so bad either." Upon hearing Erza's words, Jellal showed a relieved expression. "My body was possessed by Zeref's spirit. I lost all control. I'm nothing more than a puppet created to bring Zeref back to life."

"Possessed…?"

"I can't save myself. No one among my former comrades can save me either. That so-called paradise, that so-called freedom… they never existed. Everything ended before it even began. I knew R-System couldn't be completed, but Zeref's spirit wouldn't let me stop. I lost all power to resist. I'm like a broken train that can't stop. Erza, you've won. Finish this. That's why you came here, isn't it?"

A hint of hesitation flashed across Erza's heart.

She withdrew her sword from Jellal's throat and said, "There's no need for me to do anything. The satellite magic array has already been deployed in the sky. It's over. For both you and me… all of us…"

Jellal sat up from the ground and muttered, "You really are a foolish woman…"

"You are also one of Zeref's victims..."

"This is the sin of losing to my own weakness. When faced with the overwhelming gap between my ideals and reality, my heart simply couldn't accept it."

"Isn't it the role of comrades to help fill those fragile and lacking parts of our hearts? Back when I left the Tower of Heaven, I was the same. At that time, if I hadn't met Noel, my situation wouldn't have been much better than yours. I, too, must atone… for failing to save you. But… I do have one regret—I never got to say the words I've always wanted to say to Noel... But maybe that's for the best. At least in his eyes, I am still just a comrade. This way, if I die, he won't..."

A trace of regret and sorrow appeared on Erza's face before she gently embraced Jellal.

At that moment, countless faces flashed through her mind—Natsu, Gray, Makarov, and many others from Fairy Tail.

But among them, the image of that golden-haired boy was the clearest.

He was the one who taught her what it meant to be strong.

He was the one who made her understand the meaning of dignity.

And he was also the one who showed her what it meant to protect.

(Hey, Erza, did you know? They say that if you look up when you feel like crying, your tears won't fall.)

With a gentle yet sorrowful smile, he had spoken those words.

He was always the first to notice the pain in others, touching their hearts again and again—not because he had experienced happiness himself, but because the wounds in his own heart ran deeper, hurt more, and were more unforgettable than anyone else's.

"Noel... I... to you..." Erza murmured softly, her voice so low that even Jellal couldn't hear it.

"How unfortunate… but I… have already found my salvation," Jellal said.

But Erza didn't see the twisted, sinister expression on Jellal's face.

The sky darkened, swirling with ominous clouds.

A massive pillar of light descended from above, striking the Tower of Heaven and shattering its outer shell, revealing the enormous magic crystal hidden within.

"We're… still alive?" Erza stared in disbelief at her own hands.

Jellal stood up, looking at the stunned Erza, and burst into wild laughter.

"Hahahaha! This moment… this moment has finally come! This is the true form of the Tower of Heaven—a massive magic crystal! And thanks to the Council's Etherion, it has successfully absorbed an enormous amount of magic power. Now, at last, R-System is complete!"

"You really are adorable, Erza."

A voice, identical to Jellal's, sounded from behind her.

Erza turned her head sharply—standing there was Siegrain, dressed in white.

"Jellal couldn't use his full strength. It was only when he truly faced danger that he had to deceive you." His voice, laced with mockery, carried the unmistakable pleasure of toying with her.

"Siegrain? Why… why are you here?"

"This reminds me of the first time we met, Erza," Siegrain said casually, walking toward Jellal.

"When I went with Makarov to the Council to submit that apology letter?" Jellal interjected smoothly.

"You mistook me for Jellal and attacked me. Well, considering our identical faces, that's understandable. After all, we are twins—you finally accepted that, didn't you? But even so, your hostility never faded," Siegrain added, smirking.

"Of course not! You're his older brother, yet you went along with Jellal's insane plans. No… more than that—you've been watching me!" Erza shouted, her anger boiling over.

"Yes, that was my mistake." Siegrain continued nonchalantly, as if Erza's accusations meant nothing. "I should have told you back then—I was going to find Jellal and stop him, no matter what. But after finally securing a position in the Council, meeting you was my greatest misstep. There's nothing more painful than having to come up with an excuse on the spot…"

"So, in the end, you two really were conspiring together." Erza's expression was a mix of realization and fury.

"Conspiring?"

"No, that's not it, Erza." Siegrain's tone carried both regret and ridicule, his expression growing indifferent.

Then, in a flat voice, he said, "We have always been the same person. From the very beginning."

As he finished speaking, the two of them merged into one.

Erza's face was filled with shock. "How is this possible? A Thought Projection?"

"Correct. Siegrain was just another version of myself."

"Then the plan to drop Etherion—that was also your idea? You infiltrated the Council just for this?"

"Does your brief taste of freedom make you happy, Erza?" Jellal smiled coldly. "All of this was orchestrated for the revival of Zeref."

"Just how many people have you deceived to stay alive this long?" Realizing she had once again been tricked, Erza clenched her fists tightly.

"Power."

Now fully merged with Siegrain, Jellal's magic surged.

What had been just barely on par with Erza's own now erupted, rising to the level of the Ten Wizard Saints.

As Erza was ensnared by Serpent Bind, a smug grin appeared on Jellal's face—until suddenly, a white energy blast struck him, sending him flying.

A cold, furious voice rang out through the air:

"You… are the one person I will never forgive, Jellal!!"

Jellal and the bound Erza turned their gazes toward the source of the voice.

Standing before them, clad in a white coat and exuding an unshakable intensity, was Noel.

His face was as sharp as steel, his eyes filled with an icy wrath.

"So, Reign couldn't defeat you after all, Noel Rutherford," Jellal muttered, standing up and dusting himself off.

Then, his lips curled into a menacing grin.

"Well, that's just fine. I've been looking forward to this fight for a long time… You and I—the two youngest members of the Ten Wizard Saints."
