Fairy Tail Destiny

Chapter 56: Ch 56 : True heart

(Time Rewinds to a Few Minutes Ago)

Passing through the corridor leading to the top of the Tower of Heaven, Noel finally arrived at the tower's summit.

As soon as he stepped in, he saw Erza pressing down on Jellal's shoulder.

(What's going on? Has the battle already ended?)

Unclear about the situation, Noel chose to observe, hiding behind the wall at the entrance.

However, due to the distance between them, he couldn't hear their conversation clearly.

Then, as he watched Erza and Jellal exchange words before embracing each other, an inexplicable stabbing pain suddenly rose in Noel's heart.

It felt as if something sharp had pierced directly into his chest—uncomfortable, painful.

(What… is this? Why am I feeling this way?)

Noel clutched his chest in confusion.

The pain was so real, so vivid, that he instinctively clenched his fist.

(What exactly does Erza mean to me? Why… am I feeling this way? Seeing Erza smile like that, why does it make my heart ache? Why??)

Memories of everything he had experienced with Erza suddenly surged in his mind.

An answer faintly surfaced in Noel's consciousness, but he instinctively rejected it. (No… That's impossible. I…) But as he tried to deny it, a feeling of self-deception crept into his heart.

(Are you still going to keep running away?) A cold voice echoed from his right eye—the voice of Him.

(I may not understand human emotions, but it's obvious that you like that red-haired girl, don't you?)

(That's impossible… I… I don't…)

(Your attitude toward her has always been unusual. If you had no special feelings for her, then why did you make that promise to her?) The detached voice struck a chord, leaving Noel speechless.

(I…) He fell silent. He wanted to refute it, but found himself unable to.

(Do I… like Erza? Is this feeling surging within me… really not just friendship?)

Noel knew that his perception of emotions was limited to only two types—kindness and malice.

For other feelings, he was rather insensitive.

So what if he liked Erza...?

(Should we kill that man?) He spoke to Noel.

(No.) Noel denied it without a second thought.

(Why?)

(Because... Erza is smiling. And that is enough… No, that is the best ending... You know it too, don't you? I... am the abandoned child of Gods, the forsaken infant of Demons... I can neither reach heaven nor touch hell... I have no right to embrace anyone... nor can I bring happiness to anyone... I am a hypocrite. Everything I've done these past few years has been just to make myself feel a little better... Call it being forced, call it necessity, but none of that can erase the blood on my hands or the sins I bear... I have long since stopped hoping for redemption...

So if Jellal can find his way back and bring Erza happiness, then all I need to do is stand quietly on the sidelines and watch. That is enough... )

Noel's lips curled into a bitter smile, one mixed with sorrow, regret, and pain—an expression filled with a complex web of emotions.

(…You really are an idiot.) After a long silence, He finally spoke.

As a being originating from the same soul, He might not understand human emotions, but he could feel the overwhelming sorrow and utter resignation coming from the depths of Noel's soul.

Twelve years ago, everything Noel had gone through—though their souls had yet to split at the time—He could still feel just how deep the wounds left on Noel truly were.

(…In the end, I have one request for you... Etherion is about to fall... Please, protect them. I know you have the power to do so.) Noel spoke to Him in silence.

(…Aren't you afraid that I'll use this chance to suppress your consciousness? And do you even realize how much damage you'll suffer if you exert your full power with your already broken body?) He asked.

(I won't… let that happen...)

Noel's right eye suddenly snapped open, the six-pointed purple star within it rotating slowly.

His voice turned cold and emotionless.

"Divine Light Magic, Chapter Four, Verse Seven—Sanctuary of God."

A thin, transparent barrier enveloped Jellal and Erza, shielding them from harm.

Yet, under the ever-growing radiance of the falling Etherion, neither of them noticed it.

As the pillar of light descended, engulfing the sky, land, and sea in blinding brilliance, Noel closed his right eye, pressing a hand over it.

Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth and seeped from his eye.

Yet, his face bore a mixture of heartache and relief.

A single tear slid down his cheek, vanishing into a place unseen by all.

(This… is enough… Be happy, Erza…)

When the light finally faded and Noel reopened his eyes, what lay before him was a massive magical crystal.

Then, as Erza was bound by the Serpent's Bind, and as he listened to Jellal's words, an inexplicable surge of emotion—an emotion called rage—flooded Noel's chest.

Without waiting for his body to fully recover, Noel had already moved.

A burst of white light shot forth, blasting Jellal away.

"You... I will never forgive you, Jellal!"

"Being able to fight you as a prelude to Zeref's resurrection… this is truly magnificent. However, after your battle with Reign, you've already suffered quite a few serious injuries. Just how much strength do you have left?" Jellal smirked as he gazed at Noel, whose body bore several wounds from his previous fight.

"Noel… why are you here…?" Erza stared at him in shock.

In a flash, Noel appeared before Erza, shattering the Serpent's Bind restraining her.

He draped his tattered and bloodstained white coat over her shoulders and spoke softly, "Just wait, Erza. It'll all be over soon."

Looking at Noel, who wore that familiar gentle smile, Erza suddenly felt an ominous premonition—one that sent a chill through her heart.

It was as if Noel was about to disappear from this world, from her life.

The moment that thought surfaced, she forcefully dismissed it. (No… Noel will be fine… he has to be.)

Yet, no matter how hard she tried to shake it off, that unease lingered deep within her heart, refusing to fade.

Now having ensured Erza's safety, Noel faced Jellal.

The clashing waves of their Saint Wizard-level magic power created distortions in the very space between them.

"You know, Noel Rutherford… ever since I can remember, the person I've wanted to fight most has always been you." Jellal's voice carried both amusement and anticipation.

"We are both the youngest among the Ten Wizard Saints. We stand at the pinnacle of our generation. And once I defeat you today, there will be no one left to stand as my equal. Let's settle this once and for all."

Noel narrowed his gaze. "No wonder I felt a familiar magic presence in this tower. So Jellal and Siegrain were one and the same."

His deep blue eyes, reminiscent of the boundless sky, now gleamed with a coldness more chilling than eternal ice.

"Titles like 'youngest Wizard Saint' or 'strongest of our generation' mean nothing to me… but…"

"In this battle, I will defeat you."

Jellal laughed. "Hahahaha! How arrogant. If you think you can, then try!"
