Fairy Tail Destiny

Chapter 59: Ch 59 : Siblings

The icy seawater poured into his body through his mouth and nose, bringing with it a bone-chilling cold that momentarily cleared Noel's fading consciousness.

Crimson blood gushed from the massive wound in his chest, making him all too keenly aware of the rapid loss of his life force.

(Am I... going to die?) Noel's lips curled into a bitter smile.

(Is this... the end for me? ... I'm sorry, Erza, for leaving you with such painful memories... I'm sorry, Mirajane, Master, and everyone in Fairy Tail... I really... tried my best... I truly did... So... at least now, just let me... rest for a while...)

Excessive blood loss and agony sent his mind drifting into unconsciousness once more, but buried memories resurfaced with piercing clarity.

Scenes of the past he wished never to recall flashed through his mind like a revolving lantern.

The wounds on his heart, long thought to have scarred over, were torn open once again, bringing back that soul-crushing pain as if it had just happened yesterday...

"Lia... Hal... I'm sorry. I was so powerless, so weak... Back then, I couldn't protect anything, I couldn't protect anyone..."

A single tear slipped from the corner of his eye, merging into the vast ocean, vanishing without a trace.

-------------------

The afternoon sunlight poured gently over the tranquil forest, warm and comforting.

A young boy, around eight or nine years old, rested against the base of a large tree, his golden hair slightly tousled as it swayed with the breeze.

A few playful birds perched on his shoulders and hair, chirping and hopping around.

The sunlight illuminated the boy's face, revealing a peaceful and handsome expression as he slept soundly.

As if stirred awake by the warm rays, the boy reached out and rubbed his face.

The birds, startled by his sudden movement, flapped their wings and took off into the sky.

With a soft murmur, the boy slowly opened his eyes, revealing a pair of clear, sky-blue irises as pure as the heavens above.

"Ahhh~~~ is it already noon?" Nord stretched his arms lazily before placing them behind his head, leaning back against the tree as he stared blankly up at the sky.

(What a beautiful blue sky… It's nothing like the one in my old world, where pollution had turned it a dull gray.)

The thought had barely formed in Nord's mind before he found himself chuckling at it.

(I've already been in this world for nine years, yet I still can't seem to forget my past? That's odd… After my adoptive father passed away, I didn't really have any friends or family to miss back there. And yet, I still can't completely let go… Heh.)

Shaking his head slightly, he muttered to himself in frustration, "They always say transmigrators get cheats, but I've been here for four years already, and I haven't seen a single sign of one. Could it be that my so-called transmigration gift is just a slightly above-average talent for magic? But that's because of my bloodline, isn't it?"

Just as Nord was lost in his own thoughts, he suddenly felt his vision go dark as a pair of small, delicate hands covered his eyes.

A sweet, childish voice followed soon after.

"Guess who I am?"

A helpless yet doting smile appeared at the corners of Nord's lips.

Using a tone that sounded like a question but was actually full of certainty, he said, "It's Lia, isn't it?"

As soon as he spoke, the hands lifted from his eyes.

Nord turned his head, and his gaze met that of an incredibly adorable girl around the same age as him.

She had long, soft pink hair, with a crescent-moon-shaped hair accessory securing the strands on the right side of her forehead.

Her deep blue eyes shimmered brightly—unlike Nord's sky-blue irises, hers were closer to the color of the ocean, carrying an entirely different kind of charm.

However, at that moment, the girl didn't seem too happy.

Her cheeks puffed up slightly in a pout, as if she were sulking, making her look even more irresistibly cute.

"Nii-sama must be cheating! Otherwise, how come you always guess it's me?" The pink-haired girl huffed in dissatisfaction, glaring at Nord with her bright blue eyes.

Nord chuckled softly, stood up, and reached out to gently pat the girl's head. "Because Lia is special. That's why I can always tell."

"Special?" The girl named Lia squinted her eyes in comfort as Nord stroked her head.

"What's special about me?"

"Because Lia is the most important and special person to me—my cutest little sister."

"Really?" Lia's eyes widened with joy as she looked up at Nord, her expression beaming with happiness.

"Really!" Nord nodded firmly, his eyes filled with warmth and laughter.

"Hehe, I love Nii-sama the most!" Lia cheered excitedly, suddenly lunging into Nord's arms.

Caught off guard, Nord lost his balance and tumbled onto the ground.

"Ahh… Next time, can you at least give me a little warning?" Nord let out a wry smile, feeling the ache from his back hitting the ground.

Lia tilted her small head, looking at Nord with innocent confusion. "Warning? What do you mean?"

"...Never mind, forget it," Nord sighed helplessly.

"Hehe." Lia giggled and snuggled against Nord's chest like a little kitten.

"Nii-sama, you skipped class again! The teacher was really mad. You'd better be careful, or he'll tell Father about it."

"That doesn't really matter," Nord said nonchalantly. "You know how much I hate dissection class. That feeling of taking life away… I just can't stand it."

In his past life, Nord was an orphan who had been adopted by a kind-hearted foster mother.

She was a firm believer in the sanctity of life and always taught him to respect and cherish it.

Although Nord wasn't as extreme as she was, he had developed a subconscious aversion to dissection classes.

Lying on the ground with his hands resting behind his head, he sighed nonchalantly.

"Lia is so lucky she doesn't have to take dissection class. Whatever, let the teachers complain if they want. Father wouldn't care about something like that anyway."

Nord and Lia's father, Claude, was a stern and aloof middle-aged man.

From what Nord had heard, before he and Lia were born, Claude had been a warm and charismatic person.

But after their mother passed away due to childbirth complications, he changed completely—becoming silent and withdrawn.

Nord could sense the deep and complicated emotions in his father's gaze whenever he looked at them.

But there was always a subtle sense of distance, an unspoken barrier between them.

It was normal for them to go months without seeing him.

"....." Hearing Nord's words, Lia suddenly fell silent.

Then, in a soft voice, she asked, "Nii-sama, do you think Father hates us? Is that why he always ignores us?"

Nord's heart clenched at the sight of Lia's sorrowful blue eyes.

Panicked, he hurriedly tried to explain, "Ah, that… It must be because Father is too busy! Yeah, that's it. Lia, think about it—Father is the head of the family, right? He has to deal with so many things every day. That's why he's not ignoring us! And besides, you're so cute! Even if Father doesn't like me, there's no way he wouldn't like you…."

Seeing Nord's flustered expression, Lia suddenly burst into laughter. "Hehe, Nii-sama, you're so funny."

Nord scratched his cheek awkwardly. "Geez, don't tease me like that, Lia."

"Thank you, Nii-sama." Lia closed her eyes and asked Nord softly, "Will you always stay by my side and protect me?"

"Mm, I will always be by your side to protect you." Nord nodded without hesitation, smiling as he spoke.

"Alright then, Nii-sama, hurry up and get up. If we don't go back soon, the teacher will really get mad." Lia climbed off of Nord and urged him.

"Mm." Nord nodded, getting up from the ground and brushing off the grass on his clothes.

Suddenly, a small hand appeared in front of him. "Huh? What is it?" Nord looked at Lia in confusion.

"Nii-sama, Lia wants to hold hands," Lia said in a soft, spoiled voice.

"Alright, alright." Nord chuckled helplessly and gently held her small hand in his own.
