Fairy Tail Destiny

Chapter 58: Ch 58 : I'm sorry, forget me

"You…" Noel looked at the sword piercing his chest, his lips trembling as if he wanted to say something.

But Jellal's grin only widened, his voice cold as he uttered, "Celestial Magic—Magic Sphere."

A surge of magic power flowed from Jellal's hand gripping the sword, using it as a medium to channel directly into Noel's body.

Then, in an instant, the overwhelming magic exploded within him.

Centered around Jellal's sword, a ten-centimeter-wide hole was blasted through Noel's body.

Through that gaping wound, one could see the scenery on the other side.

Time seemed to freeze at that moment.

Blood and torn flesh splattered through the air.

Noel's entire vision was filled with nothing but the grotesque red of his own blood scattering in midair.

His deep blue pupils shrank violently into a single point.

And then, as if the sky itself had lost its color, all focus and life faded away, leaving only emptiness and deathly silence.

Jellal pulled the sword from Noel's body.

With his bloodstained, devilish grin, he watched as Noel, like a butterfly with its wings torn off, fell lifelessly toward the ground, landing face down.

Blood poured from his wound, soaking the magic crystal beneath him in just seconds, staining it a deep crimson.

"Noel!!!" Erza let out a heart-wrenching scream, running toward his fallen body in desperation.

"Hahahahahahaha! I won! I won! Hahaha! I was right all along! I am the strongest!" Jellal cackled maniacally.

Then, with a swift kick, he sent the approaching Erza tumbling to the ground.

Erza fell to the ground, her magic nearly exhausted.

Desperately, she struggled to stand up, wanting to embrace Noel's lifeless body, but before she could, Jellal grabbed her by her long red hair, rendering her unable to move.

Staring at the tear-streaked Erza before him, Jellal smiled and said, "Thank you so much, Erza. If it weren't for you, things really could have gone badly for me. I wonder… will Noel resent you after his death? Ah, no, that's not quite right. He's already dead. I should be asking—will the dead Noel hate you from the depths of hell? Hahahaha!"

Each of Jellal's words stabbed into Erza's heart like a dagger, slicing her apart, leaving nothing but open, bleeding wounds in her soul.

"No… this isn't real… it's not real…" Erza mumbled, staring at Noel's empty, lifeless eyes, her own filled with despair as tears streamed endlessly from her right eye.

"Well then, now that all the nuisances are dead, it's time to begin Zeref's resurrection ritual." Jellal sneered, tightening his grip around Erza's neck as he dragged her toward the magic crystal.

------------------

Where… is this?

So dark… so painful…

So tired… What is this exhaustion?

I'm already… this tired.

Then… it wouldn't matter if I just fell asleep, right?

Who?

Who is calling me?

This voice… it's Erza.

It's not over yet. I can't fall asleep.

Jellal is still here. I can't die yet.

I can't let the tragedy from thirteen years ago repeat itself.

I won't watch the people important to me die again.

No… absolutely not.

I refuse to lose anyone else.

I've lost too much already—I don't want to lose anymore.

Please… move, my body.

Please, just move… at least… let Erza escape from here.

At the very least… I must protect Erza.

I'll give you anything.

My life, my soul—

Even if it means falling into hell forever.

Even if it means enduring eternal suffering.

So… MOVE!!!

--------------------

"The moment has finally come—Zeref's resurrection!"

Jellal, his face alight with excitement, dragged Erza to the magic crystal.

Just as he was about to push her in, a white chain suddenly shot out from behind, wrapping around his arm.

"What?!"

Jellal's expression changed drastically as he turned his head toward where Noel had fallen.

A golden-haired boy, covered in blood, was struggling to stand up from the pool of crimson beneath him.

Blood continued to gush from the gaping hole in his chest, soaking his white clothes completely red.

His gaze was hollow, lifeless.

His frail body trembled violently, like a dying flame flickering in the wind.

Anyone could see that he was at the brink of death—perhaps just moments away from collapsing for good.

But still, he stood.

A white chain extended from his left hand, binding Jellal's arm.

Jellal stared in disbelief, then, as if something snapped within him, he screamed hysterically:

"No! Impossible! Absolutely impossible! Your organs should have been completely shredded by my magic! There's no way you can still be standing! No way!!"

As if to confirm Jellal's words, Noel coughed up a massive mouthful of blood.

His body swayed violently, as though he would collapse at any moment.

And yet, at that very moment, Jellal saw it—

A transparent flame, burning over Noel's body.

"Burning… your soul?! You're insane!!" Jellal shouted in shock.

Magic, at its core, was the reaction between a soul and the elements of the world.

And a soul was the essence of one's very existence.

To burn one's soul meant gaining power far beyond imagination for a brief moment—

At the cost of eternal annihilation.

The soul would be lost forever, condemned to eternal damnation.

Noel's bloodstained lips twitched as he slowly raised his trembling right hand.

"Holy Light Magic—Wings of Radiance."

A pair of massive, white wings of light formed from his hands and shot forward.

In the split second that Jellal was still frozen in shock, the radiant wings had already attached themselves to Erza, lifting her from his grasp and carrying her high into the air.

"What?! Damn it!"

Jellal snapped back to reality and instinctively prepared to use [Meteor] to chase after her.

But before he could move, several more chains shot out from Noel, binding Jellal's entire body.

"What are you doing, Noel…? Rutherford?! Let me go!"

A deep, foreboding dread rose in Jellal's heart.

He struggled with all his might, unleashing waves of magic in an attempt to shatter the white chains—

To no avail.

Noel gazed at the Tower of Heaven, which, after remaining dormant for so long and enduring the purification of [Genesis], had lost control of its magic and was now on the verge of complete destruction.

With a sorrowful smile, he whispered to Jellal—

"This is the end… Let's disappear together, Jellal."

"WHAT?! No! If someone's dying, it'll be you alone! DIE!!!"

Realizing Noel's intent, Jellal's face twisted in sheer terror.

Desperate, he launched a barrage of dark magic attacks—each blast striking Noel's already broken, crumbling body.

"Cough…"

Noel spat out another mouthful of blood, his vision growing hazy.

As he looked at Erza, who was gradually being carried further away from the collapsing Tower of Heaven, a gentle smile—just as he always wore—graced his face.

His lips moved slightly, forming a few silent words.

Then, slowly, he closed his eyes.

Erza, carried away by the [Wings of Radiance], saw the movement of Noel's lips—

And in that instant, she could no longer hold back her sobs.

Tears streamed down from her right eye, covering her beautiful face in sorrow.

She understood.

She knew what Noel's last words had been.

(…I'm sorry… Forget me, Erza.)

"NOEL!!!"

Erza's heartbreaking scream echoed through the sky.

And then—

A deafening explosion erupted from the Tower of Heaven.

The towering structure, standing over a hundred meters tall, crumbled like a child's toppled stack of blocks—collapsing into dust.

The unleashed surge of magic turned into a massive pillar of light that pierced the sky, shattering the clouds above.

It was the most beautiful light.

And the most sorrowful.
