Chapter 151: Chapter 151: One-on-One with Amphisbaena

Charles's flaming wings flapped behind him, keeping him aloft over the vast lake.

Under the reflection of the crystalline growths surrounding the area, the lake shimmered with a gem-like aquamarine glow.

This massive lake on the 27th floor connected to the external sea. Over a decade ago, the monsters that once roamed the ocean were said to have exited through this place.

How was that problem resolved? The credit went to the Hera Familia.

After defeating Leviathan, they used its remains—Leviathan's colossal bones—as a plug, sealing off the Dungeon's connection to the sea.

Even as a mere corpse, the aura of that oceanic overlord was enough to keep all other monsters at bay.

But because of that, the monsters now congregated in this lake. No one knew how many lurked beneath the calm surface.

Charles's target, the Labyrinth King Amphisbaena, also resided here.

According to strategies discovered by other adventurers, the first step in defeating Amphisbaena was luring it out from the depths.

The ideal battleground was a location with multiple footholds, since Amphisbaena's blue flames could melt equipment—directly tanking it was not an option, only dodging.

But for someone like Charles, who could fly, none of that was necessary.

He could feel Amphisbaena's presence beneath him in the depths of the lake.

Being a Labyrinth King, its aura was especially distinct—no other monsters lingered anywhere nearby.

Charles pulled out the potion concocted by Miach and drank it in one gulp.

His magical circulation slowed, and his muscles grew weak—the potion was taking effect, and Charles was ready to begin.

"Roar of the Fire Dragon!"

His cheeks swelled, and a magic circle appeared before him.

A column of fire smashed into the lake surface, generating thick steam and disturbing the water enough to form a massive whirlpool.

"ROOOAARRR!!"

Before Charles could finish the attack, a thunderous roar erupted from within the lake.

He ceased his spell, but the whirlpool only grew larger.

With a crashing sound, waves exploded outward as a pale figure burst from the depths.

The lower-floor boss, the twin-headed dragon Amphisbaena, had finally revealed itself.

It was a bizarre white dragon, with gleaming armor-like scales covering its body. Though the pattern of the scales was irregular compared to dragons Charles was familiar with, there was a strange beauty to it.

If one focused only on the body, Amphisbaena looked like the mythical "phantom dragon" of fairy tales. But its four blood-red eyes made it clear—this was a savage beast.

Its upper body split into two long necks, each ending in a head that acted in perfect unison.

Both heads locked onto Charles, clearly enraged that he had disturbed their rest.

The twin heads let out an ear-shattering roar, their soundwaves blasting Charles's hair backward.

Charles nonchalantly stuck a pinky in his ear. "So noisy. I hope your strength matches that voice."

As he spoke, a pair of gauntlets with differing designs appeared on his arms.

The left dragon head suddenly snapped its jaws shut and reared upward—shattered dragon scales and blood sprayed into the air. Below, Charles was frozen in the pose of an uppercut.

The right head blinked in confusion, clearly stunned by what had just happened—only to receive a flying kick from Charles a moment later.

Flexing the arm encased in the gauntlet, Charles felt the strength coursing through it.

Since receiving his Falna, his personal armament had become a skill. That skill came with an attack power boost.

Though Charles's own strength was considerable, the reason he had shattered dragon scales was likely thanks to the enhancement from his equipment-based skill.

Both dragon heads turned toward him simultaneously, all four eyes radiating lethal intent.

Amphisbaena's massive body suddenly launched forward with unnatural speed, both heads snapping at the airborne Charles from different angles.

His wings beat quickly, twisting him mid-air to dodge one snapping maw—only for the other to block his escape.

He could see the blue fire flickering in the back of its throat.

In the next instant, a torrent of blue flames roared from the dragon's mouth, swallowing Charles whole.

This was Amphisbaena's most devastating attack—its lance, capable of melting even high-tier equipment.

Gulp… gulp…

A strange sound echoed out—the huge mass of blue fire was shrinking rapidly, revealing the silhouette of a man.

Charles's mouth was wide open, absorbing the fire into himself.

When the last of the flames had been devoured, he wiped his mouth. "I thought eating that would power me up... hmm? Nothing? Oh well. I'm fired up now!"

As expected of Miach, god of medicine—his potion's magic suppression was so thorough it even blocked power boosts from Dragon Slayer Magic.

Luckily, it didn't suppress his fire immunity—otherwise, he'd have been roasted just now.

Amphisbaena wasn't dissuaded by its failed attack. With no intelligence to speak of, it simply lunged forward again.

One of its heads struck like a siege ram.

"Iron Fist of the Fire Dragon!"

Charles punched the oncoming head. The beast shrieked as white scales shattered and boiling dragon blood sprayed out.

But Charles didn't walk away unscathed—his weakened body couldn't match the strength of this draconic monster. He was flung backward by the massive impact.

Before he could regain control, a white tail sliced through the water, lashing toward him like a whip.

Charles summoned all his remaining magic. Flames burst from his legs, jet-propelling him through the air as he twisted into a somersault, narrowly dodging the tail swipe.

The sheer force of the tail kick sent a gale through the cavern, scattering his flames in all directions—but it didn't land a hit.

With another flap of his wings, Charles steadied himself in the air. Flames surged around both of his hands before merging into a single orb.

"Radiant Flame of the Fire Dragon!"

He hurled the fireball downward at Amphisbaena.

One of the dragon's heads lunged up and unleashed a cloud of red mist from its maw.

As the fireball entered the mist, most of it was instantly extinguished. Only a small fragment hit Amphisbaena, leaving a charred mark on its scales—no real damage.

This was Amphisbaena's second breath: the red mist that weakened magic. Its shield—complementing its flame spear.

Possessing both ultimate offense and defense, Amphisbaena was a nightmare. Even with a level 5 leading the charge, a team of twenty was normally needed to bring it down.

The beast spat another torrent of blue fire at Charles. With no memory or strategy, it forgot the attack had been useless earlier.

This time, Charles didn't bother devouring the flames. Since it no longer strengthened him, why bother?

The fire split in two around him, revealing Charles within.

The gauntlets on his arms vanished—replaced by a long-handled weapon. A wide blade was affixed to the shaft, and between the two was a dragon-shaped hilt with an open maw.

"Now then… time for Round Two!"
