Fate/Water

Chapter 5: Talk/Name

A bit I said sorry about that sleep hit before I could upload this😅

"You are an intruder."

Her voice was calm, but beneath it was an edge—one that promised consequences.

…

"Oh shit, you're right."

It took him a full minute to process what she had just said.

Then it finally hit him.

"Wait… I'm the bad guy here?"

His mind replayed the events in quick succession:

✔ Broke into her domain.

✔ Wrecked part of her "home".

✔ Attacked her with tentacles.

…Yeah.

"She's not wrong."

He exhaled through his self-made mouth, scratching the back of his head.

"Alright, my bad. Sorry about that," he admitted.

With a flick of his wrist, the tentacles loosened their grip before dissolving into water, releasing her completely.

The moment she was freed, her fist rocketed toward his chest.

He barely had time to register the hit before boom—a crater opened in his torso, water bursting outward from the force.

She had aimed for his face, but with a 40 cm (1'3") height difference, her fist had landed just below.

A massive hole gaped through his chest, his liquid form momentarily disrupted—before it repaired itself in the blink of an eye.

Water rushed in, sealing the damage like it had never existed.

He didn't get mad.

Didn't even react.

He had expected this.

"Are you satisfied now?" he asked, unfazed.

She met his gaze, her eyes like twin daggers.

"No," she answered, cold and unwavering.

He sighed.

"Alright. Hit me with everything you've got."

---

She did.

And she did not hold back.

Fists crashed into him with earth-shattering force, the sheer impact causing shockwaves across the water's surface.

She pummeled him relentlessly, each strike exploding his body apart—only for him to reform seconds later.

A devastating roundhouse kick sent his entire torso flying apart in a spray of liquid.

She chopped his neck with a strike sharp enough to sever flesh and bone, but he merely rippled and reformed.

Grabbing him by the leg, she whipped him into the water so hard that it parted like an oceanic canyon.

When he surfaced, she was already above him.

A knee to the ribs—if he had bones, they would have shattered.

Point-blank energy blast.

Half his body erased.

Before he could fully reform, she gripped what remained of his torso and hurled him skyward.

He barely had time to react before her armored heel came crashing down from above—

A dropkick from hell—

That sent him hurtling back into the ocean, breaking the surface like a meteor.

His body exploded into droplets upon impact, scattering into the waves.

And just when he thought it was over—

She tore off his arm.

And beat him with it.

…That one felt unnecessarily personal.

Finally, she exhaled, fists still clenched, but no longer moving.

A moment of silence stretched between them.

She had nothing left to dish out.

"...You done?" he asked, expression flat.

She gave a sharp nod.

"Good," he muttered, rolling his shoulders.

"Because that was getting excessive."

Then, something clicked in his mind.

The voice.

The one that had been whispering in his thoughts, pushing him to kill her—

It was gone.

For the first time since their battle began, he heard… nothing.

The compulsion, the drive toward violence—simply vanished.

"Weird," he muttered, momentarily puzzled.

Then, just as quickly, he dismissed it.

He had more important things to focus on.

"Well, whatever."

With a stretch, he extended his limbs creating wings made of water and prepared to leave.

Then—

A hand gripped his arm.

He turned his head.

She was holding him back.

"Leaving?" she asked.

"Yes," he said simply.

…

A brief pause.

Then she asked, "What is your name?"

There was curiosity in her voice.

"I don't have a name," he replied flatly, as if the concept meant nothing to him.

She studied him for a moment before offering her own.

"Nammu."

She said it with pride, as if it carried weight beyond just letters.

He smirked.

"Cute name," he said, tone drenched in sarcasm.

Then she muttered something under her breath.

"Abzu."

His brow quirked.

"What?"

"Your name should be Abzu!" she said enthusiastically, more certain this time.

…

A beat of silence.

Then, he shrugged.

"Okay."

That was it.

No reaction. No excitement.

Just… acknowledgment.

Her eye twitched.

That was all?

No protest? No argument?

She felt mildly dissatisfied, but she chose not to push it.

"Well, I'm leaving if there are no more complaints," he said, casting her a sideways glance.

She turned her head away slightly, her expression unreadable, before giving a small shake.

"None," she said.

"Alright then."

With a fluid motion, he launched himself into the air.

As he hovered above, he glanced down at her one last time.

"See you around, Nammu."

She stood motionless, watching his silhouette against the sky.

"Goodbye, Abzu," she said, her voice steady.

He gave a small nod—

And then, with a burst of speed, he vanished into the abyss.

---

Soaring through the open sky, the wind rushing past him, he murmured,

"Abzu, huh… I kinda like it."

A small, almost imperceptible smile tugged at his lips.

He had never cared for a name before.

Never needed one.

But now, having one given to him…

It felt strangely significant.

And he didn't mind it.

With that thought lingering in his mind, he pushed forward, disappearing into the vast expanse ahead.
