Chapter 22: Chapter 23: Kiana and Hu Tao
"Jingle Bells…"
The school bell rang, signaling the end of the day. The moment it did, Kiana grabbed Hu Tao's hand and bolted out of the classroom at full speed, practically performing a hundred-meter sprint.
She couldn't wait to see her sister and the ever-gentle Mei.
During class, she and Hu Tao had been searching for information about the game Honkai Impact 3rd. When Kiana discovered that her in-game counterpart had countless memorable moments with Mei in the story, she could barely contain her excitement, nearly breaking into a foolish grin right in the middle of class.
So, the moment school ended, she wasted no time. Dragging Hu Tao along, she dashed toward MiHoYo's studio like a whirlwind.
"Ahh, Kiana, slow down! My hat—!" Hu Tao's panicked voice trailed behind as she struggled to keep up.
MiHoYo Studio
Before long, the two girls arrived at the doors of the studio.
Kiana fished a key out of her pocket and grinned mischievously. With practiced ease, she unlocked the door and snuck inside with Hu Tao following close behind.
"Whoa~ So this is a game studio!" Hu Tao's eyes sparkled with excitement. It was her first time in such a place, and everything around her seemed fresh and fascinating.
However, Kiana was too focused on something else. She frowned slightly, scanning the room.
"Strange… Where is everyone?"
She dragged Hu Tao around the studio, peeking into different rooms, but found no one. It wasn't until they reached the door of the recording booth that they finally heard familiar voices inside.
Kiana's eyes lit up the moment she spotted her sister among the crowd. And right beside her was the person she had been longing to see—Mei!
"Sister! Mei!!"
Without hesitation, Kiana flung herself forward, practically tackling Mei into a warm embrace.
This familiar scent… this familiar warmth…
"Kiana? What are you doing here?" Mei gasped in surprise, trying to steady herself from the sudden impact.
Kiana looked up with a bright smile. "I missed Mei~"
However, her excitement quickly faded when she noticed something odd.
All the girls in the room had slightly red eyes, as if they had just been crying.
Kiana's face froze. "Wait… What's wrong? What happened?"
The girls exchanged hesitant glances before turning to look at Mo Li in unison.
Mo Li: "..."
Ever since Kiana had entered, Mo Li's attention had been split between her and the brown-haired girl accompanying her.
He had heard from Youlander that Kiana was her younger sister and still in high school, so her presence wasn't surprising. However, what did catch him off guard was the girl standing beside her—Hu Tao.
"I never expected the troublemaker Paramecia to be hanging out with Hall Master Hu…" Mo Li mused internally, already pitying their teachers. He couldn't imagine the kind of chaos these two brought to their school.
Before he could dwell on it further, Kiana suddenly turned to him, her expression shifting from confusion to anger in an instant.
"You!" she pointed at Mo Li, stepping forward aggressively. "How dare you bully my sisters?!"
Fortunately, Mei quickly grabbed Kiana's arm before she could do anything rash.
"Kiana, you're misunderstanding—"
But Kiana wasn't convinced. "No way! Did you see how they all looked at him just now?! That was a look of silent suffering!"
"You're jumping to conclusions," Youlander sighed, stepping in. "He's our new boss, not some villain."
"Even if he's the boss, he still can't bully you all!"
The girls: "..."
They felt truly embarrassed to explain that they had just been crying over an emotional plotline in the game.
In the end, it was Gan Yu who finally stepped forward to clear up the misunderstanding.
She gently wiped away the remaining tears from the corners of her eyes and spoke in a soft voice, "We weren't bullied. We were just moved by the game's storyline…"
Kiana blinked in confusion. "Eh? So… that's all it was?"
Feeling slightly awkward, she scratched the back of her head. "Uh… Sorry, boss…"
Mo Li chuckled. "It's alright. Youlander has told me about you—lively and adorable, just as expected."
Hearing this, Kiana felt a rush of embarrassment.
"N-not really…" she mumbled, rubbing her nose. Though she tried to act humble, she was secretly delighted.
Bronya, who had been watching the exchange, rolled her eyes.
She distinctly remembered Youlander using the word "troublemaker" to describe Kiana. How had it suddenly turned into "lively and adorable" in Mo Li's version?
Sure enough, men are natural-born sweet talkers.
"Oh! Right!" Kiana suddenly remembered something. She turned to Mo Li and eagerly pulled Hu Tao forward. "Boss, this is my best friend, Hu Tao!"
"Hello, boss~ My name's Hu Tao!" Hu Tao greeted with a grin, tipping her hat playfully.
Mo Li nodded, amused. Of course, he knew who Hu Tao was. Her personality was as unique as ever.
After checking the time, he realized that it was already close to the end of the workday.
"Since Kiana and Hu Tao came to pick you all up, let's wrap things up and leave early today."
Hearing this, Youlander and the others didn't react much—after all, game development was their passion, and they didn't mind staying longer.
But Kiana? She jumped up excitedly.
"Thank you, boss!!"
After Work
Once Mo Li left, Kiana and Hu Tao immediately clung to Youlander's arms like playful kittens.
"Sister! Did you help make the game using me as a template?" Kiana asked eagerly.
"Sister Youlander, can I get a role in the game too? It looks so fun!" Hu Tao chimed in.
Their endless chatter surrounded Youlander, but instead of finding it irritating, she simply smiled and patted Kiana's white hair fondly.
"I did help with the game's development, but I wasn't the one who made all the decisions. It was Mo Li who decided to add Kiana to the game."
"Huh? So that's how it is?" Kiana pouted slightly.
Hu Tao, on the other hand, looked a little disappointed. "Aww… I really wanted to be in the game too…"
Just then, Bronya's calm voice cut in.
"If Hu Tao really wants a role in the game… the boss might actually agree."
"Eh? Really?" Hu Tao's eyes sparkled with excitement.
Bronya nodded. "I'm not completely sure, but you could ask him."
Since Honkai Impact 3rd focused on beautiful girl elements, Bronya reasoned that Mo Li wouldn't refuse someone as energetic and unique as Hu Tao.
"Wow~ You think he'd say yes?" Hu Tao's enthusiasm soared. "And there's money involved too?!"
Bronya gave a small nod. "Yes. If you land a role, you'll receive compensation."
Hu Tao's eyes practically turned into golden stars. "Sister Bronya! Take me to see the boss right now!"
Kiana laughed. "Haha! Go for it, Walnut!"
And with that, the two energetic girls dashed off in search of Mo Li, eager to turn Hu Tao into a game character.
