Genshin Impact: I'm just a mortal

Chapter 218: Chapter 217: Makoto and Rosalyne

"Where's Shen He?" Yu Xie asked.

"Miss Shen He is probably still in her room, unable to sleep. You've been gone for so long, and the two of us can only cry, waiting for you to come home," Kitsune Saiguu's voice had a hint of a cry in it.

Although it was clear that Kitsune Saiguu was joking, it still left Yu Xie feeling a bit at a loss.

"Alright, I'm not teasing you anymore," Kitsune Saiguu changed her tone, covering her mouth with a slight smile. "Miss Shen He went to rest a while ago. She's quite at ease about you."

Yu Xie paused, recalling the words Shen He had said to him earlier.

Since meeting Shen He, it seemed like she had gradually changed over time.

"But I'm not like Miss Shen He," Kitsune Saiguu stared into Yu Xie's eyes, "I'm quite petty."

"But since it's so late, I'll let it slide for now. I can't let you wear yourself out."

Looking at Kitsune Saiguu, so close to him, Yu Xie paused, and the next words slipped out:

"You look really cute right now."

"..." Hearing what Yu Xie said, Kitsune Saiguu suddenly went silent.

A blush crept onto her face, which was even more apparent under the moonlight.

She immediately turned her head, avoiding Yu Xie's gaze.

"When did you learn to say such sweet things?"

Yu Xie realized what he had just said without thinking, and it had made Kitsune Saiguu a little shy.

"I just said it because it came to mind. It's not really sweet talk."

Kitsune Saiguu turned her back to Yu Xie. Although she appeared to resist on the surface, the corner of her mouth couldn't help but curve into a faint smile, and it felt as though a delicate flower was blooming in her heart.

"Alright, anyway, it's already late. Go get some rest. I'll head to bed too."

With that, Kitsune Saiguu took a step away, her figure disappearing around the corner of the courtyard.

Yu Xie stood in place, watching Kitsune Saiguu disappear around the corner. He sighed lightly, smiling with a hint of helplessness, then turned and made his way back to his room.

Moonlight bathed the vast courtyard, and on the rockery, two unnamed insects hopped up and down, keeping each other company.

........

Late at night.

Rosalyne stood by the window in her room, gazing at the silent street outside, saying nothing.

Behind her stood a maid named Yola.

"Lady, "The Doctor" has been putting a lot of pressure on us, questioning why the Delusion hasn't appeared in the hands of the resistance on Watatsumi Island."

"Don't mind him, just do as I say," Rosalyne replied. "While I am still 'The Fair Lady,' I should do as much as I can. I don't want to see the kind of tragedy that happened to me repeat itself on someone else."

"Understood."

......

The next day.

In the great hall of the Tenshukaku.

"Reporting to the Shogun, the diplomatic envoy from Snezhnaya, the Fatui Harbinger—'The Fair Lady'—requests an audience!"

Upon hearing the soldier's report, Makoto furrowed her brow slightly before speaking in a calm tone:

"Let her in."

"Yes!" The soldier respectfully saluted and then left.

Soon after, the sound of footsteps echoed outside the hall.

Rosalyne slowly entered, her graceful figure coming into Makoto's view.

This was not the first time the two had met, but this encounter felt different from the previous ones to Makoto.

She had already heard from Yu Xie about Rosalyne's past, a past that was rather poignant.

Makoto carefully examined Rosalyne, and from her impressive figure and elegant demeanor, Makoto could actually sense a hint of regret.

"Miss Rosalyne, it's been a while. How have you been?" Makoto spoke.

"Thank you for your concern, Shogun. I am doing well," Rosalyne smiled. "Given the current special circumstances in Inazuma, I shouldn't have come to disturb you, but there are some matters I wish to address as soon as possible."

"What is it?"

"To be honest, General, I have a task while I'm in Inazuma. As an Harbinger of the Fatui, I must complete my mission."

"Is this task related to me?"

"Yes," Rosalyne paused, "There is something that should now be in your possession, and my task is to take it."

Upon hearing this, Makoto understood.

She had already heard that the Tsaritsa of Snezhnaya had sent the Fatui to collect the Gnosis, and so far, the Gnosis of Barbatos, the Anemo Archon, and Morax, the Geo Archon, had been taken by the Fatui in different ways.

The task Rosalyne mentioned was likely related to taking the Gnosis.

"Miss Rosalyne, the item you're referring to, could it be the Gnosis?" Makoto didn't beat around the bush and spoke frankly.

"True to your reputation, Shogun, you hit the nail on the head," Rosalyne smiled. "If you could give me the Gnosis, I would be most grateful."

"You must understand the value of the Gnosis. If you want to take it, you should at least offer something of equivalent value in exchange."

"The Gnosis is so precious, I really can't think of anything I have that could serve as an equivalent exchange. How about this? You name your conditions, and I'll fulfill them. Afterward, you can hand the Gnosis over to me, how about that?"

"Please forgive me, but I must decline." Makoto replied calmly. "The value of the Gnosis cannot be matched by just a few demands."

"I see..." Rosalyne fell silent for a moment.

Time flowed second by second, and Rosalyne suddenly smiled.

"I've heard that the Shogun is a pair of twin sisters. The elder sister is not skilled in martial arts, but she is very knowledgeable in statecraft, while the younger sister is a top-tier warrior, handling all the fighting. Shogun, is this true? May I ask, am I speaking with the elder sister or the younger one today?"

As soon as she said this, many Fatui soldiers silently appeared at the entrance of the hall and inside, each holding a sword or blade.

Kujou Sara also appeared silently by Makoto's side, her cold gaze fixed on Rosalyne in the distance.

Rosalyne looked around, as if apologetically smiling.

"Apologies, Shogun, I was a bit thoughtless with my words. Please forgive me. The Fatui has many matters that require my attention, so I must take my leave now."

After speaking, Rosalyne turned and walked away.

Makoto did not stop her, and the Fatui soldiers did not take any action either.

Once Rosalyne had left the Tenshukaku, Kujou Sara, standing beside Makoto, respectfully bowed.

"Shogun, although the lady is a diplomatic envoy from Snezhnaya, her actions today have clearly crossed a line and showed great disrespect to you. Would you like me to detain her?"

"Not for now," Makoto replied. "Sara, please bring someone to me. His name is Yu Xie, and he should be at the Kitsune Saiguu place."

"Yu Xie... Understood, Shogun."

"Remember, Sara, it should be a polite request, not forceful," Makoto emphasized.

"Understood."

......

Rosalyne, leaving the Tenshukaku, walked down the street, letting out a soft sigh.

She had deliberately shown hostility towards the Electro Archon, knowing that when things unfolded according to her plan, the Electro Archon would not hold back. This was the only way to deceive the increasingly shrewd members of the Fatui, ensuring she could successfully carry out her deception.

The only problem was that the final step could not go wrong; she had to make sure she "died" by the Electro Archon's blade.
