Chapter 15: Chapter 15: The Assassination of the Geo Archon
Liyue Harbor, Yujing Terrace
After making her first wish, Lumine moved to another incense burner to pray again.
"I hope I can get some news about my brother from the Geo Archon."
Meanwhile, Paimon was waving her hands impatiently.
"How long is Lady Ningguang going to take to prepare?"
With that, the three of them Lumine, Qiu Bai, and Paimon walked toward the center of Yujing Terrace.
As they walked, whispers filled the air.
They could hear the murmurs of the crowd, though the words were unclear.
Lumine and Qiu Bai pushed their way through the dense gathering of people.
"Whoa, there's so many people!"
"Let's move a little closer! We can't see anything from back here!"
With that, Paimon flew ahead, eager to get a better view.
Lumine followed, squeezing through the crowd, her gaze locking onto Ningguang standing at the front.
Meanwhile, Qiu Bai stayed behind, watching silently.
After all he was a God.
If he wanted to see something, he didn't need to push through a crowd to do it.
At that moment, Ningguang stood in the center of Yujing Terrace.
She lifted her head slightly, glancing up at the sun high in the sky.
Then, with measured grace, she stepped forward, her elegant jade-white legs moving smoothly across the platform.
"The auspicious hour has arrived."
At her words, the two attendants beside her bowed and stepped back.
Suddenly—
A powerful surge of Geo energy erupted from Ningguang body.
Four gem-like constructs, infused with pure elemental energy, materialized around her.
The gemstones floated in a circular formation, continuously orbiting her.
Then, with a decisive motion, she pointed toward the incense burner before her.
All four gemstones shot forward, embedding themselves into the incense burner.
At that moment, A radiant golden beam pierced through the heavens.
From the center of the incense burner, the golden light shot straight into the sky, piercing through the clouds.
The entire sky shifted in color, and the winds roared violently.
Then dark clouds suddenly gathered, swirling ominously above Yujing Terrace.
Thunder rumbled.
Lightning streaked across the sky.
And then—
A dragon with half-Qilin features came crashing down from the heavens.
Qiu Bai rested his chin on his hand, watching the scene unfold.
"I've seen this happen in the game before..."
"But witnessing it in person really makes it feel... real."
That said—
"Isn't this dragon... just a bit too small?"
Well, it made sense.
After all, this was just a false form.
If the real Morax had fallen from the sky, half of Liyue Harbor would have been obliterated in an instant.
Ningguang's expression grew solemn.
She hurried forward, crouching down to examine the fallen dragon.
Meanwhile, the crowd broke into a frenzy of whispers and speculation.
Moments later, Ningguang took a deep breath and stepped back.
Then, turning sharply, she raised her hand and gave a decisive command—
"The Lord of Geo has been assassinated! Seal off the area!"
The moment her words fell. A massive force of Millelith soldiers surged in from the entrance, surrounding the crowd in an instant.
"Conduct a thorough investigation! No suspicious individuals are to be let through!"
As soon as she gave the order, Ningguang fell into deep thought, standing there silently.
Her gaze lingered on the fallen body of the Geo Archon, her mind racing through the events that had just unfolded.
"If the Lord of Geo has been assassinated..."
"Then what about the Adepti?"
A dark thought crossed her mind.
"A power capable of assassinating a god..."
"No matter who is behind this, they will not leave Liyue alive."
Her eyes turned sharp—
With a wave of her hand, she ordered the formation of the Millelith defensive ranks.
"W-What the heck is going on?!"
Paimon clutched her head in disbelief.
"She said... the Lord of Geo has been assassinated."
"D-Does that mean the Geo Archon is d-dead?!"
Lumine's gaze sharpened as she scanned their surroundings.
"It's the Millelith. Looks like they're conducting a search for anyone suspicious who got too close to the scene."
Her mind raced.
"If the Geo Archon is really dead... then what about the clues to my brother?"
Then another thought struck her.
"Now that I think about it... aren't we technically 'suspicious individuals' who got too close to the scene?"
Lumine quickly turned away, making a decision in her heart.
"A god's body could be a target for their enemies."
"We can't let it fall into the hands of his enemies' followers."
With that thought, Lumine stealthily made her way toward the exit.
"H-Hey! Wait for me!"
Paimon stomped her feet anxiously before floating after her.
Meanwhile, Qiu Bai simply stood in place, waiting calmly for the Millelith's inspection.
After all, he had no reason to run.
Just as he was thinking this, a Millelith soldier approached him from a distance, holding a small notebook in hand.
The soldier glanced at him and asked,
"Age?"
"Twenty-two."
"Occupation?"
"Consultant for the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor."
"Name?"
"Qiu Bai."
The soldier nodded.
"Alright, everything checks out. You're free to go."
Without another word, he turned and walked away.
Suddenly, a panicked voice shouted from nearby—
"There! Suspicious individuals are making a run for it!"
"Quick! After them!"
Qiu Bai didn't even need to guess.
It was obviously Lumine and Paimon.
By the time the surrounding crowd fully registered what was happening, the weight of the situation finally sank in.
One by one, their expressions darkened.
Some even collapsed onto the ground in despair.
Murmurs of disbelief and sorrow filled the air.
"First the Adeptus and now the Lord of Geo?"
"What will become of Liyue after this...?"
"A contract upheld for thousands of years... just gone, just like that."
"No! I refuse to believe it! How could both the Lord of Geo and the Adeptus fall?!"
Qiu Bai silently observed the reactions of the people around him.
Then, he let out a quiet sigh.
"The people of Liyue... have become far too reliant on him and Morax."
"This Nation Called Liyue… Must Grow."
Ningguang gaze was filled with disbelief and sorrow.
Yet, amid her thoughts, her eyes suddenly landed on Qiu Bai, standing in the distance.
She couldn't understand, why was this new consultant from the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor so mysterious?
A few days ago, Keqing had reported that a new guest consultant had arrived at the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor. She even described him as possessing an exceptionally divine appearance.
Over the past few days, Ningguang had been investigating him.
What she found was simple. He was humble, deeply knowledgeable, and even a close friend of Zhongli.
His temperament was gentle, and he seemed to be an upstanding man.
Yet, there was nothing. Absolutely no records about his past before he became a consultant.
"Truly an enigmatic man."
"Even in the face of a god's death, he remains completely unfazed?"
As she pondered, a thought arose in her heart. She should get to know him.
And so, she began walking toward Qiu Bai.
At that moment, Qiu Bai stood near the Jade Chamber's railing, hands clasped behind his back.
The wind gently swept through his white robes.
Ningguang, standing behind him, felt a fleeting sense of distraction.
She quickly regained her composure and approached him.
"Mister Qiu Bai, since you've already passed the inspection. Why do you remain here instead of leaving?"
She stopped beside him, gazing at the distant horizon just as he did.
Qiu Bai chuckled softly.
"I had nothing better to do, so I stayed to watch the view."
"That Millelith officer never said I had to leave immediately, did he?"
He turned his head slightly, meeting Ningguang gaze.
This was Tianquan Ningguang, one of the Seven Stars of Liyue. A woman of unparalleled wealth, a true business magnate.
She had climbed from the bottom of society to the top, from a barefoot girl to the ruler of commerce in Liyue.
"But to think that the esteemed Tianquan herself would take the time to chat with a mere funeral parlor consultant like me…"
"I must say, I feel honored."
His words were completely sincere. After all, right now he was merely a consultant in Liyue Harbor.
"Mister Qiu Bai is too humble."
Ningguang expression remained composed, but her eyes held a trace of curiosity.
"I simply wished to ask, where exactly do you come from?"
Her brows furrowed slightly.
There were far too many mysteries surrounding this man.
Qiu Bai immediately understood her concerns.
Yet, instead of answering, he simply turned his gaze back toward the distant scenery, hands still clasped behind his back.
"I am but a humble consultant of the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor."
"At least… for now."
Then, he casually added—
"Liyue, the land of gods… How will it act in the face of a god's death?"
Ningguang was momentarily stunned.
By the time she regained her senses.
Qiu Bai was already gone.
She blinked.
"Could he be an Adeptus?"
She clenched her fists.
"I will eventually grow old. The Seven Stars will change with time."
"But Liyue Harbor will always remain prosperous."
Her eyes became filled with firm determination.
Even though the Lord of Geo and the Adeptus had passed, Liyue still had the Seven Stars.
More importantly, Liyue still had its people.
"The era of human rule has arrived."
She couldn't afford to show any weakness.
Yet, as she thought about Qiu Bai, she couldn't help but murmur—
"That man truly is a mystery."
"Could he really be an Adeptus? But why do I have no memory of such an Adeptus?"
