Chapter 686: Damsel In Distress

Thud!

By the time the woman realized that there was someone in her way, she was too close to avoid him and ended up colliding with him.

Noah caught the woman in his arms, preventing her fall. Startled, she held on to Noah's arms tightly. Feeling the powerful, steel-like muscle that did not even press down in the slightest under her force, she raised her head to look at the man she was holding.

Seeing their intimate state, the husband who had been running after his woman froze and stood erect a few steps away from them.

His face flushed with anger, his eyes widened and turned red, allowing him to almost awaken some divine eye power, but he did not have the required bloodline.

"You—" he pointed at Noah and the woman in his arms with trembling hands, the same arm he was bitten on. He forgot all of his pain and choked on something before spurting a mouthful of blood in the air.

Noah frowned watching the blood shower and waved his hands. All the blood in the air moved back from where it came from and colored the man red.

"Please save me… sir, I beg of you. Please take me away from this monster. I cannot take it anymore." Seeing Noah's display of power, she acted like he was her last straw of hope and knelt at his feet and started begging for help.

Noah found her actions uncomfortable and took a step back. He glanced at the prostrating woman on the ground and then looked at the man in the front, who looked like he had seen a ghost.

"What d-do you want? I w–warn you, this is a family matter. Don't meddle in our affair, or I will have the guards arrest you. I am in the army; I sweat." Noticing Noah's gaze on him, he panicked and started fumbling while throwing every warning he had thought of or could think of.

But Noah blankly looked back without saying anything, his eyes colder than the coldest ice he had ever touched.

A shiver ran through his entire body as the man stepped back in fear. Suddenly Noah's pupils turned vertical, and that scared the man shitless. He fell to the ground and pointed at Noah in fear. "Ah-ahh! Don't come close to me; you can have Andis. I don't care, just spare me."

He crawled a little before standing up and ran in the direction he came running from, leaving a trail of blood and another liquid.

Hearing the scared screams of her husband, the woman finally dared to raise her head.

The first thing she saw was… Noah. Still the same as when she first saw him. This got her wondering as to how he dealt with the man, and she looked back, only to see him retreating back in the distance.

She looked down at the trail he left behind, and her eyes widened. While she was immersed in her unknown thoughts, Noah stepped right by her and continued walking ahead without looking back.

"Please wait—" Seeing Noah's back appear in her sight, the woman yelled instantly; her actions were out of instinct. And when she saw Noah pause and look back at her, she could not think of what to say.

Looking in his boundless golden eyes that gave her a sense of reverence and power, she felt her thoughts spiraling.

"What is it?" Noah asked softly when he saw her becoming dazed.

She snapped out and replied with another deep bow, "Thank you for your help! Without your help, I might have been forced to do something I would regret for the rest of my life."

Noah looked at her silently and nodded before turning around to leave again.

"Can you take me with you?" The woman blurted those words in panic when she could not think of anything else.

Realizing that it was too late to take her words back, she bit her lips and decided to press on. "I have nowhere else to go, and if I go back, everything will just repeat itself."

"Please, I will do anything for you if you can take me with you." The reason she spoke of was not the only one that made her do this.

It was Noah's strength and the way he scared the man she was scared of all of her life that left a deep impression on her.

Noah did not turn around hearing her words but instead continued walking. The woman got scared that she would be left behind and wanted to chase after him, but then she heard Noah speak.

"Why do you think you had no choice? You ran today when you could have run at any point in your life, so what changed today?'

Before she could answer, he continued with another set of questions.

"Why do you think that this woman people worship as Goddess Anna is revered as a divine being while they treat the women in their house like they are dirt on their shoes? What does she have that you don't?"

She started to lose focus of her vision as the words he spoke echoed in her mind. By the time she refocused, Noah was long gone, leaving behind a last question.

"And what can you even change even if you follow me for the rest of your life?"

The words drummed in her heart; she sat there in the middle of the street, under the peeking eyes of the hypocrites who watched everything from their homes but dared not to help her.

"Why did I leave today and not before? Because I could not take it anymore? What do people worship Goddess Anna? What can I do to make them…" She kept mumbling the words over and over again, her eyes lost in the spot Noah once stood.

People came by and saw her there, wounded and kneeling on the ground with tattered clothes that barely covered her body.

They stared at her for a moment before continuing on, thinking she was some kind of idiot or maniac.

After what seemed like an eternity, her eyes finally gained some clarity. Taking a deep breath, she stood up with a firm gaze and a new goal in mind.

She turned around and started walking in the middle of the night…

Noah did not realize how the words he casually said had affected the woman until the day he met her again.
