Global Awakening: Apocalypse Ender's Chronicle

Chapter 529: The Zombie Lord Raid

Since they were in a huge plaza, it was a perfect battlefield for long-range fighters.

Looking around, they saw shattered remains of armored vehicles and crumbling buildings that could be useful when they needed to take cover.

Tundra narrowed his eyes as he received another warning from the system as he approached the plaza…

"So the moment we step in, the barrier will break and it wakes up…" Tundra muttered as he only realized now that there was actually an invisible barrier that was protecting the whole plaza from outside influence.

It means that attacking the Zombie Lord from a distance without breaking the barrier would not be possible.

Seraph gripped the hilt of her sword as she focused on the enemy that was slumbering before them.

"Then we better be ready. Since it's been chained, it felt as if the old world couldn't fully kill it." She commented for a moment as she believed that a Zombie wouldn't be chained without a reason.

Perhaps, this Zombie Lord's backstory was previously a prisoner or an experiment that couldn't be controlled.

Nonetheless, what was important was whether they could kill the Zombie Lord or not. After all, just imagining this Zombie Lord lurking around without any restraint would certainly be a nightmare for many Shelters around this area.

That was actually the reason why everyone was being careful when challenging a Zombie Lord Territory!

The ones that would suffer if they failed would be the nearby Shelters that would most likely be visited by the Zombie Lord once it was out.

In any case, Tundra then took out all the items his team had given him to store in his System Inventory. Those were various weapons and pieces of equipment that they could not carry.

As everyone got ready, Atlas, the toughest of the group stepped inside the plaza's area first followed by everyone else.

[ You have entered a Lord-Tier Zombie's Area. ]

Name: Dreadmaw the Unchained

Type: Aberrant Devourer

Threat Level: Catastrophic

[ Description: Dreadmaw the Unchained is a mutation of the undead, possessing an insatiable hunger. It eats almost anything that moves. Its mouth could split apart into multiple mandibles capable of crushing steel and consuming flesh in an instant. The more it devours, the stronger it becomes. It regenerates from consumed biomass at an alarming rate. ]

"A devourer… It also has insane regeneration but it requires eating to trigger that… Alright." Tundra noted in his mind unafraid by the Zombie Lord's power.

Tundra's eyes then turned to their enemy this time.

It was the Lord-Tier Zombie who had awakened after breaking the invisible barrier as they entered the plaza.

Clank… Clank… Clank…

Chains rattled as the Zombie Lord lifted its head to see ones who bravely entered his domain.

The Zombie Lord seemed to be happy as the center of the plaza shuddered…

Thud! Thud! Thud

Just like that, the Zombie snapped its bindings apart with an ear-splitting crack.

The creature—Dreadmaw the Unchained—stood up.

It was at this time that they noticed that it actually had four arms!

Then, its head split apart into four massive mandibles! It looked really terrifying as a blackened, pus-dripping tongue slithered out like a spear before retracting with a disgusting click. It also had milky white eyes that locked onto them!

"This one looks really frightening and disgusting…" Seraph muttered as she even shivered for a bit.

Thankfully, Chaloem released a warm Aura all over the group, making everyone calm in just a moment.

"Thanks, Sir Chaloem…" Tundra said as he was also stunned just now. This creature looked more like an Alien Species rather than a Zombie at all!

It was a good thing he recruited this Monk who could not be affected by any abnormal status at all.

Then, the Dreadmaw roared!

Roar!

The force of its howl wasn't as dangerous as the Steel King or Siren Zombie's roars or screech…

However, this roar still shattered nearby windows and sent a shockwave rippling through the plaza.

Nonetheless, it was a sign that the battle had begun.

"Spread out! Don't let it focus on one target!" Tundra ordered as he dashed to the side.

Since the Zombie Lord was alone, they had already come up with a plan even before facing it.

In the end, Tundra had to play his important role properly in order to plant plenty of Invisible Bombs! In any case, with the Safety Tokens, Veiled Step Tokens, and Five-Meter Jump, including the Abyssal Set, Tundra should be fast enough to dodge lethal strikes and strong enough to endure a couple of strikes from the enemy.

The Zombie Lord then rushed toward the enemies it saw… It seemed to be very hungry and wanted to eat as quickly as possible.

Now, Seraph and Alaric, the two powerful Aura Knights, immediately activated their Aura Shields and took formation, blocking the initial charge of the alien-like Zombie.

Bam!

Their armored boots dug into the stone pavement as they braced against the sheer force of the impact.

Atlas, the Super Soldier, wasted no time.

He dashed to the left, activating his Abyssal Boots to gain additional speed, and flanked the massive zombie.

With a flick of his wrist, his Epic Blades ignited…

He slashed at the Dreadmaw's exposed joints, aiming to weaken its mobility. However, that was easier said than done. The Dreadmaw's defense was at its peak at the moment. It would not be easy to stop this Zombie.

Meanwhile, Chaloem, the Monk, jumped into the air. His body seemed to weigh like a feather as he moved with untraceable speed, landing a devastating palm strike against Dreadmaw's head.

Bang!

A shockwave of Aura exploded on impact, momentarily stunning the creature. However, it doesn't seem harmed at all.

Nonetheless, it was an opportunity that Tundra needed. There was no way he would miss it.

He dashed forward and slammed his hand onto Dreadmaw's leg.

The bomb has been planted. It was only one and certainly not enough…

Nonetheless, everyone in the team smiled seeing a faint glimmer pulse before vanishing—one invisible bomb had been successfully placed. Since it wasn't even a minute and they already planted one bomb, they knew that they should be able to do more after they got used to the Zombie Lord's pattern.

After all, this Dreadmaw Zombie lacked one thing that other Zombie Lords possessed, it was their tangible aura. It could be some sort of toxicity, deadly stench, or something that would passively stop people from getting closer to it.

This Lord Zombie only had a strong physique, terrifying maws, and four arms to grab people.

Nonetheless, the Dreadmaw Zombie doesn't care at all. It recovered instantly from the multiple attacks, and one of its arms tried to grab Tundra with terrifying speed!

Bam!

Seraph intercepted with a massive shield bash, sending the arm veering off-course.

Bang!

It landed on the ground creating a huge crater on the plaza…

The sheer force cracked the ground beneath them, but Seraph remained standing.

"Focus on giving Tundra time! He needs to plant more bombs!" Alaric shouted. Perhaps, it would be a good thing if they were able to plant at least 5 or 8 bombs before Tundra could pop them. After all, they could tell that just one or two bombs would only scratch the Zombie Lord.

By having five or more, the Zombie Lord may not die immediately but it should open up some weakness they could exploit at that moment.

After all, these Zombies all had cores within them that they had to destroy. The position of those cores varies upon Zombies but it should normally be in their heads or chest area.

Atlas and Chaloem then took their position and charged at the Zombie Lord.

Chaloem jumped and spun midair, delivering a strong spinning kick to Dreadmaw's ribcage.

Bam!

It was blocked by one of the Zombie's Arms and it even tried to grab Chaloem's feet. It unfortunately failed but Atlas found an opening.

Atlas used his sword and sliced it into its arm forcing the monster to recoil. It wasn't cut but it felt the pressure from their attacks.

In the meantime, Tundra had already dashed beneath the Zombie Lord, palming its abdomen and planting a second bomb. Then another. Three. Four. Five.

But Dreadmaw was learning.

With incredible speed, it pivoted and lunged at Tundra!

"GET BACK!"

A massive spear of golden light shot forward—Seraph had thrown her Holy Lance, or what she would like to call it. When she was still part of the Royal Knights, she was using a Holy Lance after all.

In any case, the Holy Lance was just a lance that she previously received from Shane.

Thud!

It impaled Dreadmaw's shoulder, forcing it to stagger for a brief moment. However, it wasn't deep enough and was easily taken out by the Zombie.

However, everyone took advantage of this small opening, Tundra planted more bombs while Alaric appeared at its side, slashing at its Achilles tendons, or the part where it should be located, with an Aura-infused blade.

Finally, the Dreadmaw stumbled.

BOOM!

Tundra planted more bombs before retreating!

He also instructed everyone to back off before he detonated the ten bombs at once.
