Global Evolution: I Became A Zombie!

Chapter 135: Checkmate (3)

The shining beam from their collective attack faded. Breaker stood there with a gaping hole in his chest. The arms that he used to block the strike were blown off.

Yet, he survived.

The arms protected his tiny head, and that's what mattered.

However, the attack was too much for the zombie to handle. He collapsed to his knees, staring at the hole in his chest.

The zombie wasn't the only one looking through the hole. The enforcers were, too.

Not only had the arrow blown through Breaker, it had hit the corpse wall behind, obliterating it.

The barrier between them and their freedom had been shattered!

The zealots who survived the encounter cheered. The hope of their survival was ignited once again.

At least for the moment.

"Roar!"

Breaker was enraged. He had lost his arms and a huge chunk of flesh. The horde master gave him a responsibility, and because of these humans, he was turned into a joke.

The zombie could already imagine the rest of the horde laughing at him.

A thought which agitated him.

Without arms, Breaker got up and began stomping on the zealots. Only killing them would help the giant zombie calm down.

Meanwhile, the enforcers saw it as a golden opportunity.

Breaker was distracted, and they had a way out of this mess. Only a fool wouldn't use such a golden opportunity.

"We can escape now! June, let's go—"

The enforcers turned to June, wanting to thank her, as they would be dead without her quick thinking.

However, they froze upon seeing her on the ground.

Her prized crossbow was on the ground, covered in blood. She was sitting beside it, clutching her shoulder where her hand should've been. The charred arm had been flung past her, bathed in the rotten rain.

Beside her, Girl was desperately trying to heal her, but she had poured all of her energy into that arrow, and what little she had left wasn't enough to reattach the arm.

"Go," she whispered, struggling to stand up. "Don't waste your time on me…"

With her remaining arm, she held Girl's hand. Tears flowed down Girl's cheeks as she refused to look at June or leave her side.

"Girl… It's an order," June said, smiling wanly. "Don't waste your strength on me and leave."

Girl shook her head. She would rather get punished for disobeying than leave June's side.

June was about to shove her away when the enforcers rushed to her side, lifting her.

"W-What are you doing? I ordered you to leave!"

"Yeah, we're the same rank," an enforcer replied. "We don't have to obey you."

June didn't want to show it, but overwhelmed with emotions, she couldn't hold back her tears anymore. Everyone smiled and was about to rush out of the bloody mess when they heard something.

Clap. Clap. Clap.

Someone was clapping behind them.

They turned around and saw a man standing there, using June's charred arm to clap with his own.

The man wore a form-fitting three-piece suit. From his posture and behavior, one would think he was walking in a park. But what caught their attention the most was the white mask covering his face.

None of them had seen him before, yet every single person knew who he was.

The lord of the blight zone.

"Blaze…"

"Oh, I didn't know I was so famous?"

Blaze feigned surprise and even mocked them with a bow.

He didn't know his words surprised them even more. Despite everything the elders had informed them, they did not know that Blaze could talk!

A few minutes ago…

"Master, forgive me for overstepping my boundaries, but I warned you it was unwise to send him there," Marrow said, perched on a tree branch.

"Hm… you did," Blaze replied, leaning on the tree.

Chimera, Fester, and Raven were on the sides, watching as Breaker got broken.

They were watching and continuing the tradition by betting on something. This time, it was whether Breaker would win against the humans or not.

Since Blaze sent Breaker alone, he decided to bet on his victory. Specifically, whether he'd kill that teleporter girl within ten minutes or not.

Unfortunately, he lost the bet.

For the first time in a long time, Blaze had underestimated the humans.

"I guess someone has to clean up the mess," Blaze said, leaning off the tree.

"Rehhh!"

"Not you," Blaze interrupted Chimera before turning to Marrow. "How long can you stop them from teleporting?"

"Seventeen minutes, master."

"…that trait of yours scares me."

[Skill Interruption.]

After witnessing a skill being used, Marrow could produce a barrier around her that prevented anyone or anything from using that particular type of skill for up to three hours.

The only downside to it was that she had to keep the target within her vision at all times. The barrier would fall apart if she lost sight of the person for more than five minutes.

Thankfully, it wasn't much of a problem as she could fly over their heads to always keep them within her line of sight.

Apart from her trait, Raven's new trait was also impressive. The skull on his shoulders produces a dense mist that slowly envelops his targets and takes away their senses.

It was called the [Silent Kill Zone].

Though he could only use it twice a day. Since he had already used it to help Saturn, Blaze wasn't in a hurry to let Raven use it again.

"Keep an eye on things. I'll be right back."

Back to the present…

Blaze ignored the baffled expressions of the humans and turned to Breaker.

Stop dancing.

Breaker stopped at once and even looked somewhat ashamed after having failed his task.

"You made me lose the bet. What do you have to say about that?"

"Grr…"

"Second chance?" Blaze asked, tilting his head. "Have you seen the size of the hole in you? A literal rhino can jump through that hole. Stop this nonsense and get it fixed. I'll deal with the humans."

"Gr. Grr!"

"…what do you mean, you won? This fucker… Did you bet against me?"

Breaker looked gleefully at Blaze before hurrying away. Blaze threw June's hand at him, but missed as it went through the hole in his chest.

"This guy…" He shook his head, turning back to the humans. "Right, where was I?"

The humans were as baffled as they were terrified. The reports made Blaze seem like a tyrant, yet there he was, acting like a clown.
