Chapter 113: Party
Dimash was surprised by his response, but nodded gently. "If it is within my capabilities, I will fulfill any request if you help me in this case."
"Good. I'm sure it will be." He smiled. "Tell me the way they blocked you. Did they just use the power of the White Lotus, or did they do something else?"
"They are using revolutionaries, and have the support of some powerful local industries, all believers of the Industrial God of Steam."
"Revolutionaries? The problems that have been happening recently in the district... Could it have something to do with them? That company that was in the news..."
Dimash nodded. "It was mine, Mr. Carwine. They've attacked it on several occasions to coerce me."
"I understand. They seem to have quite a bit of power in the area."
Dimash smiled sheepishly. "I can't deny it. The North has more influence in the Industrial District than the South because of the Steam Path. Besides, the Northern Revolutionaries have incredible influence on all the revolutionaries, being the main ones."
Louis nodded. It made sense.
They naturally have great influence as the top leaders of the most professed religion within the Industrial District.
But it shouldn't be possible for the Local Houses that boasted of fighting against the North to be bullied like that.
It was an insult.
Even more so now that he was the leader.
How could he show his face when others told him that he had allowed himself to be bullied by the North?
Dimash could see that he was upset, so he spoke up.
"Mr. Carwine, if you don't mind, may I invite you to the Party tonight?"
"Party?" Louis raised his eyebrows, curious.
"It is a party of important people in the district; that guy organized it. Being one of the members of the Table of 12 Businessmen, it is said that various of them will participate. I was invited and I can bring some guests with me. So, if you want to meet him, it could be there. It will take place tonight."
Louis nodded. "Take me there." He replied firmly.
'I'd like to see why a guy from up north would want to throw a party with so many important people on my turf.' He thought.
He was angry, to tell the truth, but he had to calm down.
After agreeing, the three of them and Dimash's Secretary went out to lunch, he invited Louis and Jessy.
Thus, the time passed quickly until it was the appointed time.
The time for the party that night.
Dimash brought them along as guests and arrived relatively early at the party.
It was held in one of the main buildings of the Industrial District on Rainbow Street, the renowned Downtown Tower, which Zhani Jackson himself built.
It was at the main end of the street.
It was very large by today's standards. Being a 14-story building, its presence commanded respect compared to other buildings in the area that barely measured 6 or 7 stories at the most.
On the 14th floor, there was a room where they used to hold important meetings; today, a small but ostentatious party is held there.
Dimash and Louis stood in one corner of the room, waiting for the rest of the people to arrive. Jessy seemed to get along well with Dimash's secretary, who was standing a little behind them.
When they arrived, important people were already there.
Some of them approached to greet Dimash, but they left relatively quickly.
There was one who approached, frowning.
"Dear younger brother, have you decided on an heir?" he asked, looking at Louis. "One I don't know, on top of it."
"Big brother, I haven't decided on any heir. He is Mr. Carwine, a business partner."
"Business Partner?" That man raised his eyebrows and looked Louis up and down. "Some Young Master, perhaps?" he asked, meaning no disrespect, but what he thought was disrespectful, judging him only by his young man's cover.
Dimash smiled. "Well." He didn't confirm or deny anything.
Mainly because he had no idea. He brought him here just trusting his good judgment and his words.
Though if he couldn't help him, it wouldn't be serious. He still wanted to make friends with someone capable of shelling out 20 million just like that.
Even though he was a real estate investor, the kind where money was not lacking, no one could be sure when the money would really be there.
Besides, money attracts contacts; perhaps this young man could have them.
Dimash's older brother simply shrugged his shoulders.
"Aim higher, brother. That may be why you couldn't do anything against those who forced themselves on you this time, " he said before walking away.
Dimash watched him go, but said nothing.
It was his mind that was full of thoughts about it.
'Hmph. With all of you wanting my enemy to win, there's nothing I alone can do.' He thought.
Louis noticed.
"So your brothers are against you, too?"
Dimash sighed and nodded at the same time.
"Well, they want to get me out of the market as much as possible to have a monopoly. That one you just saw is one of the 12; another brother belongs to the Table of 12. The other two are on a par with me, but lately they've slightly overtaken me."
"Any powerful alliances?"
"Yes. They have entered the market of Ancient Moon and the Shadows. I heard they made a lot of money from gambling recently."
"Oh. Alliance with Ancient Moon and the Shadows, despite being supporting the north?"
"Haha... in the end, it's profits that move those Houses, Mr. Carwine. For example, all the businessmen these days have been going crazy looking for the famous "Lord of Yellow Straw Hat", but others claim he's supporting the House of Ancient Moon, since the latter was somehow able to pay billions of Jens undeterred, after losing."
Louis stopped his ear as soon as he heard about this and didn't interrupt him.
"Some rumors suggest that this man bought a part of the Ancient Moon House, allowing them to pay off their debts, as they should have been huge since they couldn't gain any position. But no one knows what happens inside these houses, so it's just speculation."
"Indeed..." He lowered his voice. "This party or celebration was created because that man is said to be a local of Velfast. And the locals of that place are very much followers of the Gods. He may even be a follower of the Industrial God of Steam, so they're trying to lure him in to make connections."
Louis didn't expect that a character he created simply to avoid revealing his living status would become so relevant to the whole district. Now, they were even making things up about him, about how he might be a believer in one of these gods or who knows what.
He just smiled and didn't answer; he just let Dimash tell him all the information.
And soon after that, important people started to arrive. Businessmen and other important people.
Among those, Dimash lowered his voice when the rest of the main Businessmen arrived.
"Two of my brothers and the man in the middle is that guy. Paul Borne."
He was a rather small in stature and slightly overweight man, wearing a full black suit, heavily trimmed and overly pompous.
He walked with an air of smugness, a typical annoying person who depended on others to rise through the ranks, although it might be judging him by his cover.
Louis had heard from those talking near him that this man was quite good for business.
He walked around the room and ignored Dimash. He walked forward until he entered the circle of the most important people in the room.
There were people from Ancient Moon and the Shadows, representatives of their major companies, and seven of the 12 Entrepreneurs.
As soon as he arrived, Paul Borne got up on a small dais and made everyone quiet down.
"Please, this little party already started when each of you arrived, but since I was the organizer, I will give a few words." He looked at everyone present, ignoring Dimash, and then continued.
"As you well know, in three months, we celebrate the birth of our God. We must celebrate in a big way. I know many of you don't believe, but we will not burden you with it. We in the North and our allies in the South will be sponsoring different types of events and so forth during this time that will end in three months."
"We are inviting each of you to see it and, if you can, participate. For you, as entrepreneurs, I'm sure this will give you a lot of profit. That's all I have to say. You can continue to enjoy the party and all of this. I'll stop by and say hello to all of you in a moment."
With that, he stepped off the stage.
But someone else stepped up, one of the 12 who belonged to Ancient Moon.
"You all know me already, so I don't need to introduce myself. The other reason for this party was to welcome Mr. Paul Borne to the market. His investments have been important in developing our textile industry."
