Chapter 323 The Invisible Calamity
White Smoke Font often acted like a rigid data system. The amount of information they provide will vary depending on the things Law come into contact with.
For example, the beings and objects in Demon Island's forest, whether alive or dead, revealed a fair amount of data. And much of it included information not yet known even in the Hunter x Hunter World.
Then there were cases like the stone relief doors in Stargie's tomb, which returned a single word: unknown.
And now, even though this humanoid bandage gave a response, it was shockingly brief. The format seemed to follow a specific sequence: Title, Type, Name, Origin.
This was the only information provided, and there is no mention of weaknesses or vulnerabilities.
"Dark Continent..."
Law looked at the humanoid bandage float off into the distance and murmured to himself.
Kuro, who had escaped from the humanoid bandage and returned to Laws side, heard the whisper and immediately raised his eyebrows in a very human expression, and asked, "Is it something from the Dark Continent?"
Kuro also knows about the Dark Continent. Although he has an independent soul and intelligence far beyond the average, he was born from Law himself, and a lot of his knowledge had been copied directly from Law, including the understanding of the Dark Continent.
In fact, back when he had first conjured, Kuro had deliberately tried to mislead Law using the phrase 'Dark Continent', hoping to throw him off.
That act had been entirely self-initiated, something only a Nen Beast with unusually high intelligence could pull off.
Like a puppet that suddenly gains human-level awareness and autonomy, would it still want to be controlled by humans?
Unfortunately, even if the puppet could now move on its own, the strings still belonged to the one who created it. However, that didn't change the fact that with autonomy came greater flexibility.
And Kuro was that puppet, and he's capable of things far beyond what most Nen Beasts could do.
"Is there any way to deal with it?" Kuro looked at Law. He was still shocked by the situation of being unable to escape just now. He couldn't understand why the humanoid bandage could imprison him when it obviously didn't have Nen.
If it was a Nen User, would they also be imprisoned and unable to move? And with that nightmarishly dense poison mist, it'd be lethal to any living thing?
"For now? No. But there's one thing I want to try." Law said seriously as he looked at the bandages in the distance that were beginning to reassemble into a human form.
"What is it?" Kuro asked.
Law suddenly turned his head and looked at Kuro's mouth.
"…What are you thinking?" Kuro narrowed his eyes and took a few steps back.
"What happened to the rocks and soil you swallowed?" Law asked calmly.
When Kuro heard about rocks and soil, he immediately got angry and said, "I don't know!"
"Did you digest them? Or did they end up in some unknown space?" Law ignored Kuro's reaction and continued to ask.
Kuro was not stupid, so after hearing Law's questions, he immediately understood Law's plan. It was obvious that he wanted Kuro to swallow the humanoid bandage.
"Don't even think about it! That thing's way too creepy… I'm not taking that risk!" After seeing through Law's so-called 'method', Kuro firmly objected.
Law first glanced at the bandage that had finished reassembling into a human form, then raised his hand to conjure a book and said calmly: "As long as this book exists, you can't disappear. You know that, right?"
Kuro looked at the dense white light on the book, and a strange light flashed in the depths of his silver eyes. But his voice remained steady as he replied, "Yeah, that's true."
"Then what are you afraid of?" Law flipped his hand again, and the book dissolved into a scatter of white light.
'Of course, I am afraid that the Aura I have accumulated with great difficulty will be wasted!'
Kuro remained silent. Of course, he wasn't about to say that out loud. Instead, he rolled his eyes and said seriously, "I can only swallow non-living things. That thing doesn't have Nen or a resentment, but it can move on its own. That means it's some kind of special lifeform."
At this point, he said decisively: "So I can't do it."
"Oh." Law nodded.
Kuro secretly rejoiced, but heard Law continue to say: "It just so happens that this humanoid bandage is called Void, and it's a non-lifeform."
"… Huh?" Kuro was stunned.
"And you have also seen that Void moves slowly. It should be easy to swallow it in one bite." Law looked at Void in the distance.
It had returned to its original state and was floating towards them gently, not walking, but floating at a low altitude.
Hearing this, Kuro cowered and said: "How about we just avoid it altogether? Whatever the hell that thing is, anyone who messes with it is just asking for trouble!"
"I also think that whoever gets involved will be unlucky, but aren't you one of them?" Law said seriously.
Kuro's face fell, and he said angrily: "I have rights too, you know!"
"Stop talking nonsense, it's almost here." Law turned his eyes and looked at Void, who was approaching from the front.
There is too little information about Void, and its very existence was a mystery, which is why he can only let Kuro test it firsthand, as it is also the safest approach.
Kuro had no choice but to do as he was told.
In an instant, he transformed, growing from housecat size into something as large as an elephant. His new form resembled a leopard, though there were many differences in the details.
After growing in size, Kuro lunged toward Void.
Just as Law had said, Void's existence and abilities are unknown and strange, but on the surface, it moved incredibly slowly, and its only apparent attack was the terrifyingly dense poison smoke.
'There should be no risk.'
Kuro comforted himself like this, and after crossing a distance of a hundred meters, it suddenly pounced on Void, then opened his mouth and swallowed the whole thing from top to bottom in one gulp.
It's like a kid who hates eating tomatoes, swallowing them in one gulp without chewing with a resistant attitude.
Law stood aside, watching Kuro swallow Void and observing what would happen.
One second, two seconds, three seconds...
Kuro turned back to look at Law from a distance. He seemed totally fine and nothing seemed to happen.
"Are you okay?" Law asked.
Kuro was about to answer when his expression suddenly changed. His body suddenly straightened up, as if a lot of air was pumped into him in an instant.
"Ugh…"
A large amount of green smoke came out of Kuro's mouth, and instantly filled the surroundings, swallowing his body.
Seeing that the situation was not good, Law immediately backed away and moved closer to where Sanbica was.
"It seems this method doesn't work either."
As he retreated, he looked at the rapidly spreading green smoke, his expression slightly solemn.
There was no sound at all from within the smoke, and he had no idea what had happened to Kuro.
'Well, it's like he can die anyway.'
Law thought with zero guilt as he left the clearing and rejoined Sanbica.
"What the hell was that thing?" Sanbica asked in a serious tone.
"Void. A non-lifeform. It's from the Dark Continent." Law explained as he looked at the incredibly dense green smoke.
Sanbica's eyes widened in surprise. She was not surprised that this thing came from the Dark Continent, but at the fact that Law had actually recognized what the humanoid bandage was.
At this time, all of a sudden, the smoke began to whirl like it was being sucked away by a giant invisible vacuum. In just a few seconds, the entire cloud vanished.
On the open space, the only things left were Kuro, who had shrunk to his housecat size again, and Void, who had returned to its original form.
"Damn it!"
Kuro cursed and ran away.
The other who ran away was Law.
Grabbing Sanbica's hand, he turned tail and ran, leaving Kuro behind.
Because, in addition to the Void that emerged again from Kuro's mouth, there were another six Void that just floated out from the collapsed opening.
One was already too much to handle, and now there are six more. If he doesn't run away now, when will he run?
So Law grabbed Sanbica, then turned around and ran away.
Kuro looked at Law, who had abandoned him without any moral integrity, and said angrily: "Wait for me!"
At the collapsed opening, the seven Voids simply watched in silence as Law and Sanbica fled into the distance.
This… was the invisible calamity. If left unchecked, no one knew what kind of havoc they could wreak on the world.
