Chapter 65: Chapter 65- VS Shiratorizawa (Part 5)
"BEEEEEP!"
"BEEEEEP!"
"BEEEEEP!"
The sound of the substitution alarm echoed, and the Karasuno team was making a substitution. Tsukishima, who was about to serve, was being replaced by Yamaguchi to act as the pinch server.
"I'm counting on you," Tsukishima said calmly as Yamaguchi handed him the substitution board.
"Stay calm and focused!" Yamaguchi thought to himself as he moved to the serving position.
"Yamaguchi, NICE SERVE!" Daichi cheered.
"Yamaguchi, NICE SERVE!" Tanaka echoed.
Yamaguchi bounced the ball twice on the ground before tossing it into the air.
"Alright, here we go!" he thought as he hit the ball, sending it flying unpredictably.
"FLAP!" The ball lightly grazed the net before falling to the Shiratorizawa side of the court, heading straight for the floor.
"Ugh!" Reon exclaimed as he dove desperately to receive the ball.
"That was bad! Cover me!" Reon shouted, still lying on the ground.
"Got it, Ushijima-san!" Shirabu said as he set the ball to Ushijima with a safe overhead pass. Ushijima jumped powerfully, facing a triple block from Hinata, Daichi, and Tanaka. He aimed for the side of Hinata's hand, hitting it with full force and sending the ball out of bounds.
"Ah, seriously! I was sure I could block that one!" Hinata complained, shaking his hands to relieve the pain from Ushijima's spike.
"Do you think you'll be able to block him?" Daichi asked, his voice tinged with desperation.
"I'm still getting used to it... I've never faced anyone with that much power before. It's unlikely I'll be able to do it consistently," Hinata admitted honestly.
"BEEEEEP!"
"BEEEEEP!"
"BEEEEEP!"
Once again, the substitution alarm sounded. This time, Shiratorizawa was making a change, replacing Tendo with Semi for the serve. Meanwhile, Karasuno swapped Yamaguchi back for Tsukishima, and Asahi came in for Nishinoya.
"That was a good attempt!" Sugawara said, trying to console Yamaguchi, who nodded and sat on the bench.
"Looks like they're trying a pinch server too," Takeda observed
"Eita-kun! Make it a good serve!" Tendo called from the bench, making a "V" sign with both hands.
"I may not be the main setter, but when I'm serving, I need to show my strength, no matter what!" Semi thought as he bounced the ball and then jumped, delivering a powerful serve toward Tanaka.
"POW!" The ball hit Tanaka's arms and flew out of bounds.
"NIIIIIICE!" Semi shouted, clenching his fists in celebration.
"Damn, this guy's serve is strong!" Tanaka thought.
"Don't worry, leave it to me!" Nishinoya said, having just come in for Tsukishima.
After another serve from Semi aimed at Tanaka, Nishinoya anticipated it and made the receive.
"Nice receive!" Kageyama said, already watching Hinata move and prepare to jump. With full concentration, Kageyama set the ball perfectly to Hinata, who was already in the air. Hinata faced a triple block from Goshiki, Shirabu, and Ushijima, but they couldn't reach the ball in time. It sailed over their block and slammed into the floor.
6-3 Shiratorizawa.
Next, Semi was swapped back for Tendo.
"Oh, we arrived just in time for that crazy quick attack from those two maniacs!" Oikawa said, arriving in the stands with Iwaizumi.
"Wow, it looks like they won the first set!" Iwaizumi said, surprised.
"And now they're struggling in the second set... Tsk!" Oikawa grumbled.
"Oh, that reaction just because that guy is serving? You're so petty!" Iwaizumi teased as he watched Hinata move to the serving position. Hinata tossed the ball up and used his speed-focused serve, which crossed the court in the blink of an eye and landed on Shiratorizawa's side near Taichi.
"Haha, that one's really similar to yours!" Iwaizumi laughed.
"Hmph!" Oikawa replied, rolling his eyes.
Hinata served again, but this time, the ball went straight to Reon, who felt it hit his arms and fly back to Karasuno's side.
"Free ball!" Hinata called out, calmly receiving the ball coming his way.
"Asahi-san!" Kageyama said as he set the ball quickly to Asahi, who faced a double block from Goshiki and Ushijima. Asahi managed to cut the ball past Ushijima's arms.
"Nice spike, Asahi!" Sugawara shouted from the bench, waving at him.
"BOOM!" This time, Hinata used his power-focused serve, but it went straight to Yamagata, who had replaced Tendo.
"It's yours!" Yamagata said, making the receive.
"Send it to me!" Goshiki shouted.
"Got it!" Shirabu said, setting the ball to Goshiki, who faced a double block from Asahi and Daichi.
"Take this!" Goshiki said, hitting an over-the-line attack past Daichi's arms and scoring on Karasuno's side.
After the receive, Karasuno managed to score with Tanaka using a cross-shot.
7-5 Shiratorizawa.
The game continued with Karasuno dominating, taking advantage of Tendo's absence to score as many points as possible with their quick attack. The score reached 10-8 in Karasuno's favor, and the teams had just returned from a timeout.
"That guy won't stop staring at me!" Hinata shivered.
"Well, that's never a good sign," Kageyama replied as he moved to the serving position.
Kageyama served toward Shiratorizawa's side.
"It's mine!" Yamagata said, receiving the ball and directing it to Shirabu, who set it to Ushijima. Ushijima faced a triple block from Hinata, Tsukishima, and Tanaka but aimed for the side of Tsukishima's hand, deflecting the ball out of bounds.
"Darn it..." Tsukishima grumbled, already annoyed at being outplayed repeatedly.
"It's a shame you're still so raw in your fundamentals," Tendo taunted.
"What do you know?!" Tsukishima shot back sarcastically.
"I'll show you what years of experience can do," Tendo said, turning away.
After Shiratorizawa's point, it was Shirabu's turn to serve. He aimed for Karasuno's side, and Daichi easily received it, passing to Kageyama, who once again saw Hinata preparing to jump.
"Not this time!" Tendo said, fully concentrated and moving as quickly as possible to jump almost in sync with Hinata.
"BAMM!" The sound of Hinata's spike hitting Tendo's block echoed through the stadium, and the ball landed on Karasuno's side, leaving everyone shocked.
"OH, LOOKS LIKE I DID IT..." Tendo said with a grin.
"HE STOPPED THAT CRAZY QUICK ATTACK?!" someone in the stands exclaimed.
"THAT WAS AMAZING!" another spectator shouted.
"Hey, we need to keep going!" Hinata said, clapping to snap his teammates out of their daze after being blocked for the first time during the quick attack.
"He's right, we can't give up now!" Daichi said.
"That was an incredible block," Iwaizumi said.
"No doubt, it wasn't easy. He had to read the play, guess correctly, and move fast enough to time it perfectly. That's not easy and must be exhausting," Oikawa observed.
"What do you mean?" Iwaizumi asked.
"It means that even though he stopped Hinata this time, it won't be easy to do it again. The level of concentration required is Immense, at least not without spending a lot of energy" Oikawa explained.
In the next play, Karasuno received the ball and executed the quick attack again.
"TOUCHED!" Tendo said with a smile as he barely grazed the ball with his fingertips, and Shiratorizawa scored another point, this time with Reon.
The game continued, but now Shiratorizawa was in control. They managed to defend against Hinata and Kageyama's combined attacks, though Karasuno still scored occasionally. However, it wasn't enough to stop Ushijima and the rest of Shiratorizawa, who won the second set 25-22.
