Chapter 70: Chapter 70- Post Finals
After Shiratorizawa's final point, the noise from their fans became deafening as the players celebrated their victory, while on Karasuno's side, the mood was somber.
"We lost..." said Hinata, deep in thought and looking dejected.
"Yeah... completely," added Kageyama, his face a mix of sadness and anger.
"Hey! We need to thank our fans!" said Daichi, walking past them and heading toward where the Karasuno team was. Soon, everyone followed him.
"Thank you for cheering us on!" shouted all the Karasuno players in unison as they bowed, followed by the sound of applause.
"You guys were amazing!" said one of the Karasuno fans, clapping.
"Yeah, you totally scared them!" said another fan.
"It was a great match!" said Takinoue.
"Absolutely! You did a great job!" added Shimada.
After thanking the fans for a while, they finally stepped away.
"Alright! I know you're all shaken, but there's still the ceremony, so go stretch and then come join us!" said Ukai.
"Yes," they all replied in unison, but without the usual enthusiasm.
Kageyama was stretching on the floor when suddenly, Ushijima appeared.
"Kageyama... Hinata!" he said.
"What do you want? Came to rub it in our faces?" Hinata asked accusingly.
"No... I just came to say it was a good match. You really made us work for it," Ushijima said seriously.
"Does he not realize that's not a compliment?" Kageyama whispered to Hinata.
"No, he doesn't," Hinata replied with a smirk.
"Alright! You may have won today, but a crow never forgets a face... I hope you remember that," Hinata said, standing up and heading to the bathroom, leaving Ushijima and Kageyama behind.
As he approached the bathroom, he overheard a conversation.
"You don't get it, do you? I wasn't able to block him even once!" said Tsukishima.
"But is that a reason to quit the volleyball club? My serves barely did any damage either, but we can train and improve!" said Yamaguchi.
"I've already made up my mind, and I don't even think I like volleyball that much," Tsukishima replied as he walked out of the bathroom, briefly making eye contact with Hinata before passing him.
"Damn it!" Yamaguchi said as he walked past Hinata without saying a word.
"Things aren't going too well..." Hinata thought as he turned on the faucet and splashed some water on his face.
"I failed... I focused too much on my own game, and I'm still not good enough to lead my team to victory... If I had focused more on helping my teammates, maybe the outcome would have been different..." Hinata lamented in his thoughts.
"Alright! Since you're all here, line up!" ordered Ukai, making the Karasuno players line up for the start of the ceremony. After a brief announcement declaring Shiratorizawa the winners, they were awarded the championship trophy and medals.
After the ceremony ended, the Karasuno players left the court and headed toward the exit.
"Guys, let's go eat now!" said Daichi.
"Eat?" asked Tanaka.
"Yes, everyone shut up and come with me. It's all on me!" said Daichi.
A few minutes later, all the Karasuno players boarded the bus, and soon they arrived at a restaurant that wasn't even open yet. However, a woman agreed to serve them early, and the players settled in and took their seats. Shortly after, the food started arriving.
"Eat up! After such a tiring match, you need to replenish your energy!" said Ukai.
As the players ate, tears began to well up in most of their eyes.
"Alright!" said Hinata, putting his bowl down and standing up.
"I'M SORRY! I HAD THE CHANCE TO TIE THE GAME, AND I FAILED! AS AN ACE, I FAILED!" Hinata said, tears streaming down his face.
"YOU IDIOT! YOU WERE THE TOP SCORER ON OUR TEAM! IF IT WEREN'T FOR YOU, WE WOULDN'T HAVE MADE IT TO THE FINALS!" Tanaka shouted, tears falling from his eyes.
"Yeah, Hinata-kun, you don't have to take all the blame yourself. No one thinks you failed!" said Daichi.
"YEAH, YEAH! SHUT UP AND EAT! SO YOU CAN GET STRONG ENOUGH TO TAKE DOWN USHIJIMA!" Nishinoya yelled.
"IF YOU'VE GOT THIS MUCH SPIRIT, I'M GOING TO DOUBLE THE INTENSITY OF OUR TRAINING WHEN WE GET BACK!" Ukai shouted
"YES!" everyone shouted in unison (except Tsukishima) as they went back to eating.
"If everyone's done eating, let's head back!" said Takeda, calling the Karasuno members to board the bus.
When they got back to the school, they were greeted with applause from some students who had stayed behind. However, this time there was no post-match meeting, and each member was free to go home if they wanted.
"Don't you want to watch the news?" asked Tanaka.
"No way, I don't want to see our defeat again!" replied Daichi.
"Yeah... that makes sense," said Tanaka, scratching his head thoughtfully.
"I think we should each go home, rest, and try to process what just happened..." said Sugawara.
"Yeah, I agree," said Asahi.
"Alright, see you all tomorrow!" said Hinata as he headed home.
"I'm home!" Hinata said as he took off his shoes to enter the house.
"Hey, son..." his mother said softly, seeming to already know the result.
"Yeah, we lost..." Hinata said, looking down.
"That's too bad," she replied.
"Yeah... but it's not over yet. Next time, I'll definitely win!" Hinata said, clenching his fists.
"I'm sure you will!" she said with a smile.
"Well, I already ate with my friends before coming home... I think I'll just go lie down," Hinata said as he headed upstairs.
"Alright," his mother said, leaving him alone.
"Ugh, dang it! I'm not sleepy, and it's not even night yet!" Hinata thought.
"Every time I close my eyes, I see scenes from that match! I had so many chances! But don't forget what I told you, Ushijima-san. Next time, I'll definitely beat you completely!" Hinata said, smiling.
