Harry Potter: Journey to Godhood

Chapter 577: Chapter 577: Alaric’s Position

Having understood Alaric's reasoning, Onyxia's view of him had changed dramatically.

If, in her eyes, Alaric had once been a noble hero defending Azeroth, then now, he looked more like a shadowy mastermind pulling the strings behind the continent's unfolding chaos.

"Sometimes, I really can't tell if you're a good guy or a bad one," the black dragon princess looked at her master with a complicated expression.

"That's an entire kingdom... Compared to what you're doing now, the chaos I used to cause in the human world feels trivial."

"People aren't purely good or evil," Alaric replied indifferently to Onyxia's remark.

"Just like how the Light isn't true justice, and the Shadow isn't truly evil.

To judge someone's morality, you can't just look at the means they use,but their intent. Isn't that right?"

"...You're right."

Onyxia had no choice but to agree.

Suddenly, as if something had occurred to her, the black dragon princess raised her head and stared intently at her master.

"In other words, you already predicted that Alterac would choose to surrender, didn't you?"

"Mmm... yes." Alaric confirmed her suspicion.

"I've been fed up with that old bastard Aiden for a long time. Faced with the threat of the Horde, he was the first to oppose the Alliance, the first to reject supporting Stormwind.

Even when the Alliance was reluctantly formed, he kept dragging his feet and gave no real support. If one nation had to be sacrificed, Alterac was the most suitable choice…

A man like him, ambitious yet foolish, fierce in appearance but cowardly at heart, craving great deeds but clinging to his life, chasing petty gains while forgetting the bigger picture, is nothing more than a short-sighted, cowardly rat.

He may dare not speak up to orcs, but in front of his own people, that king is quite capable of making autocratic decisions. That he would surrender is only natural."

"...Spot on!" Onyxia gasped.

As someone deeply familiar with humans, having long maneuvered through their political powers, even she only started grasping Aiden's character after being directly involved in his schemes.

But compared to Alaric's pinpoint, all-encompassing analysis, her understanding seemed shallow and irrelevant.

After all, Alaric had only met Aiden a few times during the Alliance's founding meetings.

In Onyxia's mind, most mages were obsessed with magic and cared little about people, let alone the art of judging character.

Yet here was Alaric, not only was his mastery of magic unparalleled, but he was also better at reading people than seasoned politicians like herself. He was, frankly, a freak.

Little did she know, Alaric's sharp judgment stemmed not just from personal ability, but largely from the foresight granted by the original storyline.

"So, what do we do next?" Onyxia asked.

Alaric said a single word.

"Wait."

Then he explained, "With just Orgrim's twenty thousand or so troops, once Aiden surrenders, he'll definitely march straight for Lordaeron.

Only that kind of bold move can fully capitalize on Alterac's surrender. But getting to that point will take time for negotiations and coordination.

So, for now, our forces don't need to act. However..."

He chuckled.

"I can sneak into Alterac and find a few pro-Alliance loyalists. After the surrender is confirmed, I'll leak the news to Lothar, and then..."

"Then Orgrim and Alterac get wiped out in one fell swoop?" Onyxia's eyes lit up. "As expected of you, master. Brilliant."

"Naturally." Alaric smiled at her. Then, his expression turned oddly mischievous.

"But now that the topic's over, let's discuss how to punish you for being disrespectful to your master earlier."

At the mention of that, recalling Alaric's past punishments and all the strange, imaginative play, Onyxia's body grew warm.

Ever since she became Alaric's maid and fulfilled her first "bedwarming" duty, the black dragon princess had awakened to her true nature.

Once she got a taste, she craved more. Though her status as a maid prevented her from being too forward, every opportunity to warm the bed was something she looked forward to.

She truly lived up to the title of Black Dragon Princess.

What happened that night is better left unsaid.

Meanwhile, in Alterac, Orgrim and the remaining orcs, protected by Gul'dan's magic, barely made it through the Darkwhisper Gorge.

They arrived at a prosperous mountain region inhabited by humans. The locals were stunned by the orcs' sudden arrival,it seemed this was deep within human territory.

The surprise nearly startled Orgrim, but he quickly realized this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, perhaps the key to turning the tide.

After confirming his position through human prisoners, Orgrim swiftly took several Alterac towns and villages, sweeping through with unstoppable momentum.

The only resistance came from the Barov family of Caer Darrow, Alterac's great noble house, whose island castle was guarded by powerful mages.

When news of the orc attacks reached the capital, Alterac gave Orgrim yet another surprise.

A royal envoy from Alterac secretly sought an audience with the Warchief of the Horde.

The guards escorted a cloaked figure into the Warchief's war tent, where Orgrim personally received him.

"Y-You're Lord Doomhammer?" the man stammered nervously. "Do you speak Common?"

"I am Orgrim Doomhammer, chieftain of the Blackrock clan and Warchief of the Horde. I understand your language," he replied. "And you, human, what is your purpose?"

"I thought... perhaps it's best we speak before anything... unpleasant happens." The man replied while tugging his hood lower, fully covering his face.

The cloak was made of fine fabric, embroidered with ornate patterns, his status was obvious.

"Very well," Doomhammer nodded. "I never expected a human would approach me. So, what do you want from me?"

"A promise," the man said.

"Regarding?"

"I need your word. As a warrior and a leader, you can command your followers' actions," he said.

"In these mountains, no killing, no pillaging, no destruction or atrocities. Let our cities, villages, and people continue to live in peace."

Doomhammer considered his words, casually wiping his warhammer with one hand.

"And what do we get in return?"

The man smiled, trying to appear friendly, but it came across as sycophantic.

"An unguarded passage."

"Oh?" Doomhammer raised an eyebrow. "Go on."

"You and your warriors are trying to cross these mountains to invade Lordaeron," the man pointed out.

"These peaks are dangerous, and to those familiar with them, resisting a much larger army is not hard.

You might win, but you'll suffer great losses, leaving you too weak to strike Lordaeron and its defenders with full force."

He smiled again, clearly proud of his grasp of the situation.

"I can guarantee the defenders here won't stand in your way," he said confidently.

"I'll even tell you which paths are the safest. Your Horde can cross quickly and without harm."

Doomhammer thought it over.

"You clear a path for us," he said loudly, "and in exchange, your lands remain untouched?"

The man nodded. "Exactly."

"Good." Doomhammer finally said.

"I agree to your proposal. Show me the fastest route across the mountains. I'll lead my warriors through without pause.

Once we conquer this continent, I'll protect this area. No one will disturb you or your people. You will be safe."

"That's all I wanted." The cloaked man smiled and clapped his hands. "I knew you'd be reasonable."

He pulled a rolled-up parchment from his belt and handed it to Doomhammer.

"This is a map of the area," he explained. "I've marked the pass for your reference."

Doomhammer unrolled the map and studied it closely. The man had told the truth, it was very detailed.

Soon after, the man vanished into the night.

And with that single meeting, Alterac's fate was changed forever.
