Harry Potter: Return From Future

Chapter 70: Greengrass and Potter

At Dumbledore's question about his friendship with Daphne Greengrass, Harry raised his eyebrows in response and stared at Dumbledore in an uninterested and impassionate manner.

He could understand Dumbledore's anxiety about his closeness to Daphne Greengrass.

The duo continued to 'stare' at each other in silence which was broken, moments later, by Harry Potter.

"What is that you want to ask, headmaster?" He asked with the same expressionless face.

"Nothing too special or important, Harry," Dumbledore smiled. The old man really knew what to speak and how to form his sentences and how to gain information without revealing too much on his side.

"You know, for 3 years, you barely had any sort of relation with any student from the Slytherin student," Dumbledore said.

"Maybe except your squabbles with Draco Malfoy," Dumbledore added with a chuckled and in amusement. He tried to lighten the mood but Harry remained expressionless.

Even so Dumbledore continued unfazed, "And then how you suddenly approached Miss. Greengrass on the second day itself had me surprised."

"I want to know, what made you do this," Dumbledore asked directly, at least this time.

"Headmaster," Harry replied. "Firstly, me and Draco Malfoy do not 'squabble'. He is a bigot who for the past three years had insulted me and my friends on a variety of issues, which includes calling Hermione mud blood numerous times."

"So, I would not dismiss this as 'petty fights' between children," Harry added.

Dumbledore did not respond to this and neither Harry waited for the old man to say anything.

Harry continued, "As for my 'motive' on approaching Miss. Greengrass, I think, I made it clear in the great hall itself."

"But I will explain it in detail, for you, headmaster," Harry continued.

"I accidentally encountered Miss. Greengrass on Hogwarts express," he said. "And as one would expect of a Gryffindor encountering a Slytherin, our meeting started with sparks and words of mockery."

"During our 'banter', Miss. Greengrass mentioned how judgemental and stubborn headed, I had been in my thoughts towards Slytherin," he said.

"This made me think… and no doubt a lot of Slytherin students are 'not good' to say the least but I should not place them all in the same bracket," he added. "Thus, to learn and know more about them, I approached Miss. Greengrass."

Dumbledore nodded at the explanation. Harry had not mentioned anything about what had happened to Daphne Greengrass on Hogwarts express and though this set Dumbledore thinking, he did not question about it to Harry.

"A noble motive, Harry," Dumbledore added with a hint of pride and happiness in his voice.

"Thanks for your time, Harry," Dumbledore said as a cue for Harry's dismissal. "And although, I acknowledge the problem of your scar and will soon find a solution for it, I would advise you to try and keep control of your emotions."

"At present, keeping the control on yourself is the best you can do," Dumbledore said.

"Thank you, headmaster," Harry said and he got up to leave the office of Hogwarts' headmaster.

Daphne closed the door of her personal dormitory in the Slytherin house and her shoulders slumped in exhaustion.

She walked and fell flat on the bed while Tracey who had followed Daphne to her room sat next to Daphne.

From the moment, she had entered the Slytherin common room to the moment, when she was in her personal room, very few minutes had passed, but these few minutes had been too intense.

"Daphne," Tracey said with a beaming smile. "It seems Harry's friendship have brought an unexpected help for you."

"I would have never imagined that Granger girl to take a stand for you and lodge a complaint to professor McGonagall," she said.

Daphne still lying on her bed moved her head in a nod of approval.

"Yes, Tracey," Daphne said. "Although, Hogwarts' official policy is 'non interference' in political matters, it changes when important people get involved."

"No matter what he says, Snape was not angry because 'his golden rule' got breached," she said.

"He and most probably Dumbledore were angry and were compelled to act and put a stop to all this bullying because, they did not want to get Harry involved," she added.

"They believe that, now, by supressing the matter, Harry will stay away from it," she sneered.

"Only if he was aware of his legacy, it would have been a different matter," she said in a sad tone.

"But if had been aware of his legacy," Tracey said, "would he still have helped you?"

"You know… you are a Greengrass and he is Potter," she said.

Daphne's face fell slightly at this but she shook her head, "It not like we are enemies or something."

But even though these words left her mouth, she herself did not sound very confident.

Tracey understood the dilemma of her friend and did not say anything further.

"Good night, Daphne," she said and she got up to leave.

"Good night, Tracey," Daphne replied.

Tracey soon left the dormitory and Daphne closed the doors and fell back on bed.

Although, a lot of troubles seemed in coming on the horizon, for now she felt comforted and relived. She was going to have the best sleep of her life in years.

"Harry Potter," was the last thing Daphne mumbled before her eyes closed and she fell to sleep.
