Chapter 72: Arthur in Newspaper
The next day, Harry woke up early and went with Hermione to the Great Hall of Hogwarts for breakfast.
"Harry," Hermione said as they walked through the corridors of Hogwarts, "you know, I've been waiting for you to explain a lot of things."
"Every time I've asked you questions," she continued, "you've deferred answering them."
"First, wandless magic… then you suddenly become all-powerful and all-knowing. Then you make a move on me," she added, her face flushed with embarrassment, "then you do apparition, break the head of a fellow student, and talk back to professors."
"I think you owe me an explanation," she continued. "You didn't even tell me what you and Headmaster Dumbledore talked about."
"What did you explain to him?" she added, exasperated. "You are only avoiding my questions."
Harry raised an eyebrow as he replied, "Didn't I tell you that I found my parents' diaries?"
Hermione huffed in annoyance, "And you expect me to believe that you learned all these things and changed so much by reading a diary?"
"If it were as you say, then why did you not acquire all that knowledge from the books over the last three years?" she questioned pointedly.
"Now this question makes sense…" Harry replied with a smile.
It seemed that Hermione's patience was wearing thin, and her curiosity was about to take over. Harry understood that he needed to placate to Hermione and very soon, he will have to give her some answers. He could not really continue avoiding the questions. Hermione needed answers and it was against her nature that she was not pressing the issue harder.
"From your confidence, I believe that you will have no problems passing your test in the study of ancient runes," Hermione said.
"And do not expect me to believe that you learned all this from the diaries," she added before Harry could explain.
"Hermione," Harry said, his tone a bit serious, "I will tell you the whole truth at once… but you need to wait a few days."
She wanted to protest, but Harry continued, "Trust me, Hermione. Now is not a suitable time."
After a few moments of silence, Hermione sighed, "Okay…"
"Harry," she said, "this is only because I trust you…"
"At least, you will leave Divination." she sighed. "It is not even a real subject. Study of Ancient runes is a far better subject. It has so much to learn and so much fun."
Harry nodded with a smile. Runes… these were really fun. After all, the runes had played a very important role in bringing Harry back into his past.
By the time their conversation was over, Harry and Hermione had reached the Great Hall. They found seats and were served breakfast. While they were eating, owls fluttered into the Great Hall, and the morning newspapers were dropped.
Harry picked up the newspaper and turned a few pages when his eyes caught sight of an image of Arthur and Molly Weasley standing in front of their house—the Burrow.
Further Mistakes at the Ministry of Magic
It seems as though the Ministry of Magic's troubles are not yet at an end, writes Rita Skeeter, Special Correspondent. Recently, under fire for its inability to provide proper safety at the Quidditch World Cup and still unable to discover the identity of the murderer who killed around a dozen people in cold blood, the Ministry was plunged into fresh embarrassment yesterday by the antics of Arnold Weasley of the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office.
The article then went on to describe how Arthur Weasley had rushed to the aid of Mad-Eye Moody, who had become involved in a tussle with Muggle police over the issue of aggressive dustbins. Unsurprisingly, upon arriving at Mr. Moody's heavily guarded house, Mr. Weasley found that Mr. Moody had once again raised a false alarm. Mr. Weasley was forced to modify several memories before he could escape from the policemen, but he refused to answer Daily Prophet questions about why he had involved the Ministry in such an undignified and potentially embarrassing scene.
Harry recalled that the same thing had happened in his past, after which Barty Crouch Jr. had taken the place of Alastor Moody. If things went ahead as Harry had planned, then there was no doubt that the Moody already present at Hogwarts was a fake.
However, this was not the most amusing part of the news. The report had resulted in a confrontation between Ron and Draco- Malfoy being a Malfoy had taunted Ron over this news and the condition of the Burrow which was clearly visible in the newspapers.
And as Harry was Ron's friend, he too became involved in the fight. The ultimate result was that 'Moody' had turned Draco into a ferret and made the ferret bounce.
Harry wondered if such a scene could be repeated.
Harry was still wondering when the noise of a commotion, outside the gates of great hall, brought Harry's attention.
He smirked as he released that it was most probably Ron and Draco having a go at each other.
"What is happening?" Hermione questioned as she looked towards the doors.
"We should check it out," Harry replied and he got up and walked towards the gate of the great hall.
