Chapter 12: Chapter 12 Hogwarts
In the pitch - black night, the tall giant held a lantern. He called out loudly to the uneasy young wizards, "Come on, follow me. All first - year students, look at me. We're setting off now. Watch your steps."
After saying that, Hagrid turned around and walked away with the lantern in his hand.
The young wizards followed Hagrid closely, taking each step gingerly as if groping their way down a seldom - visited mountain in the dark.
The path was not wide and it was completely dark.
Light followed Hagrid closely, taking each step gingerly as if groping his way down a seldom - visited mountain in the dark.
It was completely silent all around. Even the young wizards, who were at the most lively age, didn't make a sound.
After tripping over a stone, Light immediately took out the hidden wand and said, Lumos. Light channeled all his power, and the tip of the wand glowed brightly, lighting up the dark path ahead.
After lighting up the surroundings, Light thought it might be better to walk in the dark. A winding path seemed to have just been cleared in the woods. The trees on both sides looked extremely creepy.
A cold wind blew, causing the surrounding trees to rustle. Light couldn't help but shrink his shoulders.
Just then, a loud voice came from Hagrid's mouth:
"Watch out for the downhill. You can see Hogwarts after turning the corner ahead."
"Okay."
The young wizards also replied to Hagrid cheerfully.
The young wizards turned the corner and walked to the end of this narrow path. Then they saw a vast and dark lake. The lake was extremely deep and reflected no light.
On the high slope on the other side of the lake, the castle was adorned with numerous spires. The glass windows on them reflected the moonlight, looking extremely mysterious.
The young wizards who came to the lakeside were all attracted by this scene.
"Come on, all this way. We're going to take a boat across."
"There's a lot of slippery moss on the stones by the Black Lake. Don't rush. Watch your steps and don't slip," Hagrid reminded in his rough voice.
"Each boat can only carry four people. Absolutely no more."
Light, Harry Potter and Ron got on the same boat.
After Hagrid confirmed that all the young wizards were on board, he got on a boat with the lantern in his hand. His huge body took up an entire boat by himself. With a shout of "Set off" from Hagrid, the boats full of young wizards left the shore in a line.
Each boat had a lantern, but it could only illuminate itself and not very far.
Light looked at the Black Lake under the boat. The dark lake water reflected the bright moon and stars in the sky, but the lake surface didn't emit any light, as if the moon and stars in the lake were just illusions.
Light slowly stretched out his right hand and dipped it into the Black Lake. He remembered a vague setting by "a certain author who was stripped of their author status".
"There's a huge squid under the Black Lake. And this squid will push the small boats with its huge tentacles when new students enroll."
"And its true form might be Godric, the first headmaster of Gryffindor a thousand years ago. Only when the students are on vacation can it transform back into a human form at night and stroll around Hogwarts."
Light was thinking while gently stirring the lake surface with his hand, lost in a thousand thoughts.
"If it's true, it means that for the highest achievement of Transfiguration, the Animagus, the longer one remains transformed into an animal, the more difficult it is to transform back into human form."
"What's this..." Light's right hand seemed to touch something, or perhaps it was just the water flowing through his hand.
"Complete the mileage 'Witness the Greatness of a Millennium', gain 1 Mileage Point."
The information from the stone stele told Light that the touch in his right hand was not an illusion.
"Round this bend, and you'll soon see Hogwarts for the first time." Light snapped back to reality at the sound of Hagrid's rough voice.
"Take a good look! This will be an unforgettable memory for a lifetime." Light whispered to Harry Potter and Ron, as if also talking to himself.
As they rounded the cliff, the outline of the tall castle loomed faintly. The dim lights seemed to guide the direction of the small boats.
As the small boats gradually approached, all the young wizards fell silent, quietly looking at the castle that reached into the clouds.
Illuminated by the lights, the castle appeared great and magnificent, mysterious and spectacular.
Light watched this scene, becoming even more eager for the upcoming magical journey.
The small boats carried the young wizards through the front of the cliff and came to a hidden, huge entrance. The boats entered a pitch-black tunnel along the entrance and reached a secluded dock.
As the small boats slowly docked, the young wizards disembarked on a shore covered with gravel.
Hagrid held the lamp high and used his rough voice to guide the young wizards. "All get off and follow me."
The young wizards followed Hagrid and climbed up a row of steep, winding stairs. Finally, they came to an open-air square. The square was surrounded by columns, and at the very end in front of the square was the gate of Hogwarts.
Hagrid carried the lamp and quickly walked to the gate. He raised his fist the size of a sandbag and pounded on the gate three times forcefully.
After the dull knocking sound faded, to the anticipation of Light and the other young wizards, the gate slowly opened.
Two figures appeared in front of everyone. One was a witch wearing an emerald green magic robe. Her aged face gave the impression of being stern and unsmiling.
The other was a wizard, with greasy black hair, a hooked nose, and sallow skin. He looked not easy to get along with and even rather sarcastic.
At the sight of these two wizards who didn't seem trustworthy, almost all the young wizards were frightened.
Light watched with great interest as Snape stared blankly at nervous Harry Potter.
"All the first-year freshmen are here," Hagrid reported respectfully to Professor McGonagall, while casting a sidelong glance at Snape, who was staring at Harry Potter.
Snape noticed Hagrid's glance and withdrew his attention from Harry Potter, continuing to stand expressionlessly.
"Thank you, Hagrid! Leave the young wizards to me and Snape," McGonagall ignored the little gestures between Hagrid and Snape.
Hearing this, Hagrid subconsciously glanced at Snape, then greeted Harry Potter and left.
"Welcome, young wizards! Now follow us!"
As soon as McGonagall's voice fell, the gate behind her opened automatically.
Then McGonagall and Snape turned around and walked through the gate to lead the young wizards.
Light pulled Harry Potter and Ron along and took the lead, passing through the gate first. Seeing someone taking the lead, the other young wizards all followed suit.
When everyone passed through the gate, they saw that the hall was almost as wide as the square outside. The ceiling soared several stories high, and torches burning brightly were inserted on the stone walls on both sides, dispelling the darkness and cold.
Before they had time to take a closer look, everyone, led by McGonagall and Snape, went to the other end of the hall and entered a small room.
Seeing that everyone had arrived, McGonagall said, "Welcome all of you to Hogwarts, young wizards."
"Complete the Mileage Task 'Enter the School of Magic', and gain 1 Mileage Point."
When McGonagall finished her welcome remarks, Light received a message from the stone stele.
