Chapter 16: Chapter 16 The Library
On the long gray table, a matchstick was driven by the power of Spells, and its appearance gradually distorted and morphed. As the matchstick was gradually taking on the shape of a silver needle.
Suddenly, as if disturbed, the matchstick trembled for a while and then returned to its original state.
Light looked at the matchstick on the table and heaved a long sigh. "Another failure. It's incredibly difficult to make a breakthrough in Transfiguration from scratch!"
After spending a long time casting Spells, Light felt extremely tired. However, he had also roughly gauged what level he was at without any stat boosts, and he knew that even without boosts, he could still improve his skills on his own.
Light secretly scanned the classroom. By observing the progress of the young wizards, he judged that his talent was probably below average.
Just as Light was surreptitiously checking others' progress, he was suddenly poked by someone. Then he heard Harry Potter say excitedly, "Light, look, I've already finished half of it."
Light turned his head and saw the strange object that was half-silver-needle and half-matchstick on Harry Potter's table. He exclaimed, "You really have! You're very talented and amazing. I just secretly stole a glance at others' progress, and almost no one can do as well as you."
"Not that great! I was worried that I wouldn't be able to learn it before," Harry Potter said, a bit shyly.
Light wasn't surprised by Harry Potter's magical talent. In the original story, Harry Potter was able to cast the Patronus Charm in his third year. He even quickly mastered Sectumsempra just by seeing Professor Snape's notes, without anyone teaching him.
From this perspective, it made sense for Voldemort to curse the Defense Against the Dark Arts class. Judging from Harry Potter's talent, if he had a reliable teacher, perhaps the newly resurrected Voldemort would have been repelled.
Just as Light was woolgathering, a strict yet commendatory voice sounded in the classroom.
"Very well done, Miss Granger! Five points to Gryffindor. You are the first one to complete the Transfiguration. Everyone, take a look!"
As she spoke, Professor McGonagall held up a silver needle for the surrounding students to take a look.
Hermione, sitting beside, proudly tilted her small head with frizzy brown hair, accepting the surprised looks from her classmates around her like a proud little swan.
"Here comes the wizard with even greater talent than the protagonist in the original story. It's really tough to compete with these people without cheats!" Light sighed in his heart.
"Seriously, if I had practiced a little longer, it would be me being praised," Ron muttered with a gloomy face.
Light shot Ron a sidelong glance and thought to himself, "If I didn't know the plot, I would almost believe it."
After Professor McGonagall put down Hermione's silver needle, she began to urge the students to keep practicing.
After taking a few minutes' rest, Light started to emit light beams at the matchstick again. After countless failures.
Professor McGonagall announced the end of the class and assigned this magic as homework.
"Nothing? After waiting for a while, I still haven't gotten any information from the stone stele. I thought there would be a reward for the first class," Light thought a little regretfully.
Just as the classmates were still chatting and fooling around during the break, a ghost floated into the classroom under the shocked and horrified gazes of the students.
"Everyone, back to your seats. I'm your History of Magic teacher. You can call me 'Professor Binns'. Now, let's start the class." Professor Binns urged in a hoarse voice.
Seeing this, the young wizards quickly ran back to their seats and took out their textbooks.
"Don't practice Transfiguration in my class. Listen carefully." Professor Binns pointed at Light who was practicing and then started lecturing to himself. The boring class made people want to doze off.
The last Spells class in the morning was taught by the half-goblin, 'Professor Flitwick'. Just like in the original book, Light and Harry Potter easily completed the casting of the Levitation Charm.
After class, Ron walked down the road with his books in his arms, complaining to Harry Potter about how difficult Hermione was to get along with, completely oblivious to Hermione as she walked past them.
"Light, Harry Potter, do you have anywhere to go after dinner? How about going back to the dormitory to play wizard chess? I can teach you if you don't know how." Ron asked while eating.
"I don't have any classes in the afternoon. I'm going to The Library. Do you guys want to come?" Light asked Ron and Harry Potter.
"Going to The Library right at the beginning of the semester? I'll pass." Ron quickly shook his head. Seeing this, Harry Potter also said, "I'm tired from the morning classes, so I won't go."
After finishing his meal, Light tidied up his tableware, greeted Harry Potter and Ron, and then left.
Ron looked at Light's departing back. For some reason, he felt a twinge of sadness, as if his friend was secretly getting ahead of him in an unfair way. With tears in his eyes, he wolfed down two more chicken legs.
Light, who was visiting The Library for the first time, was shocked by the vast number of books in front of him. Rows of bookshelves were neatly arranged, and each shelf was filled with magic books, leaving no visible gaps.
This was what gave Hogwarts its confidence, boasting a vast collection of magic books.
It boasted a collection that ranged from the ordinary Levitation Charm to the creation of Horcruxes, which could confer immortality. Even Voldemort must have studied diligently in this library!
Light stopped his inward musings and wanted to look for books on Dark Magic.
Light wandered around among the bookshelves and finally found the category of Dark Magic on a remote bookshelf. Coincidentally, next to this category was the Restricted Section.
Light secretly memorized this place. His eyes involuntarily darted towards the Restricted Section. All the powerful Spells were there, and he yearned to get his hands on them.
"Hello. Have you found the book you want? I've seen you walking around the bookshelves for quite a while." Irma Pince, the librarian, walked up to Light and asked.
"I'm looking for books that can help me learn Transfiguration. I'm not very talented in it." Light said calmly.
"Okay. Please come with me." The librarian led Light to a bookshelf.
"If you're a beginner in Transfiguration, this book is quite suitable." With that, she took out a book from the bookshelf and handed it to him.
Light took the book and looked at the title. The corners of his mouth twitched involuntarily. Three Years of Transfiguration Practice and Four Years to Master It
"If you need any help, you can come to me directly. Also, no loud noises or eating in The Library. Please don't violate the rules." After warning Light, the librarian left in a hurry.
Light carried the book to the reading area. He planned to return this book after finishing it and then, on the way, go to fetch the books on Dark Magic.
Light quietly picked up *Three Years of Transfiguration Practice and Four Years to Master It* and started flipping through it. In the reading area, the only sound was the rustling of pages.
This spell book wasn't too ancient. It was filled with data and verifications presented in a thesis style. After flipping through it for a while, Light found out why Transfiguration was so hard to learn.
"Believe. The essence of Transfiguration is believing. Believe that the object in front of you can be turned into something else." Light closed the book he had just finished reading and mumbled.
After grasping the essence of Transfiguration, it was still hard to cast overly complex Transfiguration spells at present, but he had no issue with the basic spell of turning a matchstick into a needle.
Just then, information also came from the stone stele.
