Chapter 17: Chapter 17 Learning Spells
Light picked up the book and put the *Three Years of Transfiguration Practice and Four Years to Master It* he had just finished reading back on the shelf.
Then he went straight to the librarian, Madam Pince, to ask about books on the classification of Spells.
"The classification of Spells? Then come with me!" Madam Pince led Light to the area of White Magic and took a book titled *White Magic and Dark Magic* from a bookshelf and handed it to Light. She said to Light, "This book is a bit tricky for young wizards who have just started learning Spells. You can come to ask me if you don't understand something."
"Thank you very much." Light thanked Madam Pince, and Madam Pince nodded with a smile.
Light watched Madam Pince leave, then picked up the book and walked towards the reading area.
"There isn't really any special classification for White Magic. All Spells that protect oneself and others can be called White Magic. Basically, it's just a matter of the level of difficulty in learning."
"But there are quite a few classifications for Dark Magic. It can be divided into three types: Hexes, Venomous Curses, and Curses. The degree of danger of these three types of Spells increases in turn."
"Hexes first emerged when wizards played pranks on Muggles. For example, Slippery Slope is one of the Hexes. It makes the ground slippery and people prone to falling."
"Venomous Curses are an enhanced version of Hexes. The effects are better than those of Hexes, but they will bring harm and pain to the people who are hit by the Spells. For example, Bee Stings. It will imitate being stung by bees and cause redness, swelling, and pain on the skin."
"Curses truly represent the real meaning of Dark Magic. They can pose a threat to people's lives. Generally speaking, there are counter-spells for these Spells to lift the curse. For example, Petrificus Totalus. It can make a person's body stiff and immobile. If no one lifts the spell, it will lead to death."
"But there are exceptions. Some curses have no counter-spells. For example, Obliviate. It can erase a person's memory and it can't be restored."
...
When Light was getting really absorbed in reading, Harry Potter and Ron had sneakily entered The Library.
"Light, let's go eat together!" Harry Potter gently patted Light, who was engrossed in reading.
"Yeah, yeah. We still have to go to the astronomy class after dinner!" Ron nodded like crazy beside him.
"Okay, wait for me a minute. I'll put this book back first." Light glanced at the wall clock hanging on the wall.
For no reason, when leaving The Library with Harry Potter and Ron, Light looked back at The Library and suddenly realized that he would probably keep coming to The Library from now on.
"So, how are you doing with your Transfiguration practice?" Ron asked Light indistinctly while gnawing on a chicken leg.
"I've learned it. It became really easy to learn once I knew what the most important thing in Transfiguration is." After saying that, Light took out his wand and a matchstick.
With a wave of his wand, a beam of light flew out. The matchstick on the table instantly twisted and turned into a silver needle. Not only that, Light continued to wave his wand, and the chicken bones that Ron had finished eating also turned into silver needles.
Harry Potter and Ron stared at the scene in front of them in stunned amazement. Ron stammered to Light, "You, you became this amazing just after a trip to The Library?"
And Harry Potter looked at Light with anticipation on his face and said, "Can you teach me?"
"No problem."
Ron looked at his friends, one teaching and the other learning, and even the chicken leg in his mouth didn't taste as good anymore.
"To succeed in Transfiguration, you need a firm heart and calm emotions. Visualize the object you want to transform in your mind, then firmly believe in the Spells. Leave the rest to your Magic Power. It will fulfill your wishes." Light shared his insights on Transfiguration with Harry Potter and Ron.
"'It worked, it worked.'" As Ron successfully turned a matchstick into a silver needle, it officially announced the great success of Light's guidance.
Harry Potter also happily congratulated Ron.
Just as the two were still celebrating, Light poured cold water on them, saying, "We need to go, or we'll be late later."
Hearing this, Harry Potter and Ron immediately looked up at the wall clock, then jumped up. They quickly packed their tableware and dragged Light towards the classroom.
Light yawned while listening to the Astronomy class. The professor on the podium was babbling about what would happen when the celestial phenomena changed and which star was related to the disasters that occurred in the wizarding world.
Light, who had received education in historical materialism, couldn't accept this kind of reasoning that first shoots the arrow and then draws the target. This also made Light not pay much attention in Astronomy class.
After class, in the dormitory.
"'Neville, you're so weak! You gave up so quickly.'" Seamus said while looking at the wizard chess.
"'So, you think you're really brave, huh!'" Ron said to Seamus, who was watching the game, with a big smile on his face.
"'Of course! I'm super brave!'" Seamus said with confidence.
"'Then come and give it a try. I've got something good to show you.'" Ron tempted Seamus to play.
"'What is this! No, Ron, no!'" Ron defeated Seamus with an absolute advantage.
"'Light, going to bed so early?'" Harry Potter asked Light, who had already gone to bed early, with a puzzled look.
"'I don't have class tomorrow morning. I plan to get up early and then go to The Library.'"
"'Still going to The Library? We've already finished the Transfiguration homework assigned by Professor McGonagall. Do we still need to go?'" Ron asked Light while crushing Seamus.
"'There are still a few books I want to read but haven't gotten around to. I'll go and see first.'" Light perfunctorily replied to the people in the dormitory.
...
"'Very good, Light has excellently completed this Transfiguration. Five points to Gryffindor.'" Professor McGonagall said to the young wizards, holding the small statue that was transformed from a jar.
Looking at the Transfiguration he had easily completed, Light had a hunch in his mind: "It seems that even if I don't add points, breaking through on my own also has an effect similar to adding points."
"'Light, how did you suddenly learn so fast?'" Ron whispered.
"'Maybe it's because I go to The Library a lot!'" Light continued to whisper and perfunctorily replied.
In the common room, Harry Potter asked Light while cutting the steak, "'No class in the afternoon. Are you still going to The Library?'"
"'Yeah, after all, the courses aren't that many. I don't know what to do if I always stay in the dormitory!'" Light replied to Harry Potter while eating the bread.
There are four houses in Hogwarts, but there is only one professor for each subject, so the students' course load isn't heavy. There are only two to three classes a day.
"'No way! You won't become like Hermione in the future, will you? She also goes to The Library every day.'" Ron became worried at the thought of having two Hermiones.
During this time, Hermione also made a name for herself among the young wizards, but most of the remarks were about her being hard to get along with. The aura of being a straight-A student and her sharp words made her lead a solitary study life.
As for Light, whenever he was free, he would hurry to The Library to read. He lived a three-point-one-line life, shuttling between the classroom, The Library, and the dormitory.
"I'm finished eating. You all go ahead." Light quickly left after clearing his tableware.
On the way to The Library, Light set his goal for this visit. Once he got the Disillusionment Charm that could make him invisible, he would start his nocturnal exploration to find the Room of Requirement.
