Chapter 22: Chapter 22 Learning
"It's not strange. After all, in the original work, Snape forced Harry Potter to learn Occlumency by using Legilimency!" After his initial shock, Light quickly regained his composure.
"However, Occlumency is White Magic, which makes things a bit tricky!" Light calculated the remaining Mileage Points he had, looking a bit distressed.
"Learn Legilimency first. If I have enough Mileage Points, I'll learn these two spells as soon as possible." After making his decision, Light picked up his wand and started waving it.
A pale blue light emanated from the tip of the wand, and a memory related to the stone stele was slowly extracted. "Ah!" A cry of pain interrupted the spell.
"No, I don't have that feeling of getting it right away. It felt very awkward when I cast it. I guess I'll need to add one or two more Mileage Points to learn it quickly." Light covered his aching head and analyzed calmly.
After the headache disappeared, Light sank his spirit deep into his mind and saw the stone stele engraved with various words again. The information changed: Dark Magic: 7.
When Light's spirit returned to his body and he looked at the book on the table again, he could actually sense a faint Magic Power radiating from the book.
'Judging from the information provided by the stone stele, my Dark Magic talent now is probably on a par with the White Magic talent of an elite Auror.'
After some pondering, Light understood the reason for his previous failure. He waved his wand again, and the memory of the stone stele was extracted once more.
Just as he was about to extract the memory, the wand glowed. The spell failed again.
'Too hasty, and my Magic Power is not very steady.'
With his enhanced aptitude, Light grasped the reason for the failure instantly. After his headache subsided, he tried again.
"Success!" Light smiled, observing the memory that suddenly appeared in his mind.
'Now it's time to learn Occlumency.'
Light first added two points to White Magic and then started learning.
"First, extract past memories and then combine them with the current scene to reconstruct new memories. Repeat this in your mind to prevent mind reading."
"So smooth. I actually succeeded on the first try. It seems that the most difficult part of Occlumency is extracting memories. And there's an unexpected bonus." Light looked at the information box of the stone stele floating in front of him.
Light Rogers (Zhou Yang)
Mileage Points: 2
Magic Power: 1 (The value for an ordinary adult wizard is 5)
Spells: White Magic: 3 Dark Magic: 7
Transfiguration: 1
Skills: Potions: 1 Care of Magical Creatures: 0
Milestones: Soul from a Different World...
"I can directly extract information from my mind using Legilimency without having to immerse all my spirit into my mind anymore." Light let out a long breath.
"And this is a semi-passive skill. I can preset memories in advance. Even if I don't actively use Occlumency, others can only read the pre-set memories."
"However, it's normal to have this effect. In the original work, Harry Potter learned Occlumency because he was afraid of the connection with the Horcruxes. If it weren't a passive skill, it would be useless when Harry was asleep."
"Tomorrow, I'll go and meet Voldemort first to test the effect."
Light casually put away the book and walked towards The Library.
"So tired. I'll take a nap." After returning the book, Light lay on the bed, mumbled something, and then fell fast asleep.
"Light, wake up. Today is the Defense Against the Dark Arts class. Hurry up!" Ron shouted excitedly.
"What's the big deal about just a Defense Against the Dark Arts class? Why are you so worked up? This isn't like you, Ron!" Light said to Ron while rubbing his eyes.
"This is the Defense Against the Dark Arts class. Maybe they'll teach us how to handle Snape."
Light looked at the excited Ron and then at Harry Potter, who was also a bit excited, and couldn't help but dampen their enthusiasm.
"Don't get your hopes too high. Harry Potter, do you remember Professor Quirrell we met at The Leaky Cauldron?"
"... Yeah.... It's him." Harry Potter hesitated for a while as if recalling, and then said with a somewhat shocked expression, as if he'd just remembered something.
"If nothing unexpected happens, it's him! He doesn't seem suited to teach Defense Against the Dark Arts."
Hearing Light's affirmative words, Harry Potter suddenly looked downcast.
"What? What are you two talking about? Don't keep it from me!" Ron looked at the two of them, who were acting mysterious, anxiously.
"It's okay, Ron. What if he doesn't live up to your expectations? Harry Potter, don't be too disheartened. What if he's actually different from what he seems!" Light comforted the two while washing up.
"Let's go." After finishing washing up, Light took the confused Ron and the glum Harry Potter to class.
"Hi... every... one. I~ am your—Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher." Ron and Harry Potter's hearts sank when they saw Quirrell, whose head was wrapped up like an Indian's, smelled odd, and stuttered when speaking.
As expected, Quirrell lived up to his appearance. The class was simply him stuttering while reading from the Textbooks.
Ron looked like he'd lost his soul, and Harry Potter had a similar expression. Hermione also kept frowning.
"If they didn't know that Snape had once been a Death Eater, they probably wouldn't be this disappointed." Light shook his head after looking at the performance of the Golden Trio. 'This is just the start. It'll be even worse next year.'
Light lay on the table and watched as the young wizards all frantically covered their noses. He muttered to himself, 'Normally, a teacher like this would be mocked by the students, but he just has such an odd smell that no one dares to say anything!'
"Teacher, I want to know what kind of Spells the Dark Lord is most proficient in. Do you know?" Light suddenly interrupted Quirrell's stuttering lecture.
As soon as Light finished speaking, the other young wizards also seemed to be attracted by this topic and all looked at Quirrell.
"I... don't know!" Quirrell struggled to spit out a few words.
"Is that so? You're really bad, teacher! Even I know what kind of Spells he uses. And I also know that it was the Dark Lord who robbed Gringotts before." Light intimidated Quirrell by combining the plot of the original work.
"I wonder where you got this information, young wizard." Quirrell seemed to be really scared and even stopped stuttering. He kept asking.
"It was in The Quibbler, but I know what it said was false! The Dark Lord has been dead for ages. There's already grass two meters tall on his grave. How could it be him!"
"Even if he's still alive, there's no way he'd do something as low as robbing Gringotts! That's just too despicable. Hahaha!"
"What do you think, teacher?" Light asked Quirrell, laughing as he fully activated Occlumency.
"Yeah! What this student said is right." Quirrell said each word deliberately, as if in great pain.
Just as Light felt the false memories in his mind being siphoned away, a message came from the stone stele:
"Completed the mileage 'The Dark Lord's Killing Intent', gain 1 Mileage Point."
