Chapter : Hazard infection levels
I wanted to explain the concept of the Hazard and how it works in this fic, as I find it fascinating that it serves as a reality-bending force. Depending on the Digimon, it can delete, edit, copy, paste, or generate new data.
Since the Hazard typically comes into effect at the Mega level and beyond, I tried to conceptualize how it might manifest at the lower levels. Below is an explanation of what each infection stage entails:
Hazard Infection Stage 1 (Rookie):
At this level, the Hazard primarily interacts with the Digimon it infects, without affecting the surrounding environment or nearby Digimon. The effects of the infection can be observed in the abilities and gear of the infected Digimon. For instance, Guilmon's hyper wings become distorted, resembling those of Megidramon. While this transformation may not be particularly alarming or world-altering, the infection at this stage does not change the Digimon's personality nor impact its Tamer. These symptoms serve as a warning that something is amiss with the infected Digimon and indicate that, even at this relatively benign stage, the rules of reality can be distorted and corrupted. It is crucial to deal with the infected Digimon at this stage before the Hazard's effects begin to influence not only itself but also everything around it.
Hazard Infection Stage 2 (Champion):
At this stage, the Hazard begins to affect Digimon near the infected Digimon or other creatures, stripping them of their species' natural special abilities. This process removes the natural advantages that these creatures typically possess. For example, consider what happened to Sunarizamon; the moment Guilmon evolved into Growlmon, it lost its natural ability to camouflage with the ground, resulting in its bright gray coloring.
Additionally, at this level, the Tamer of the Digimon starts to display more dominant personality traits while suppressing more passive ones. This shift reduces hesitation and makes the Tamer more assertive. The Digimon, aside from its new ability to negate other Digimon's natural abilities, will also exhibit signs of increasing aggression, which will become more pronounced with each subsequent level.
