Chapter 75: The Collapse of Xia Jing
Not everyone gets the chance to raise a glass with the chief minister of the current cabinet. Although Chu Mo had countless meals at the Xu Residence from a young age, this was his first time sharing drinks with the big shot, Xu Zhongliang!
So when he left, buoyed up by the slightly tipsy state from the alcohol, Chu Mo felt content.
When he reached the entrance of the Prince's Mansion, Chu Mo was slightly stunned. The grand doors of the mansion had been restored to their original state overnight!
Majestic! Imposing! Solemn! Intimidating!
You couldn't even tell that there had been any destruction; there wasn't a hint of it being recently built.
The vermilion doors were firmly shut, with two powerful-looking qilin statues either side. The three bold characters that spelled out 'Prince's Mansion' above the doors were full of vigor, the plaque quaint and ancient. At first glance, you could tell that valuable materials were used, exuding an air of vicissitude and heaviness.
"Tsk, tsk..." Chu Mo blinked his eyes and mumbled to himself: As expected of one of the most powerful people in Great Xia, he's on a different level... Yesterday, the place was smashed into a mess, but today it's back to its original state. Perhaps... I didn't smash it enough after all!
"Too bad there's no reason to smash it again today," Chu Mo muttered to himself. "One day in the future when I make it to Longevity Heaven, I'll obliterate the entrance of the mansion, and completely destroy the place! I dare you to rebuild it... Hmph!
Standing at the mansion's entrance were two guards, different from those yesterday, but they obviously recognized Chu Mo. When they saw him staring with clear ill-intent at the door that was hastily repaired overnight, they shuddered involuntarily.
For an ordinary youngster hanging around this place, they, as Yellow Rank second level guards, would have kicked him out a long time ago.
But to this master… they wouldn't dare, even if they had a hundred times the courage.
"Chu M... Master Chu… Our prince has given orders. Should Master Chu arrive, there's no need for announcement. Please, enter at your convenience." One of the guards plucked up his courage, stepped forward and respectfully said.
Chu Mo glanced at the guard, then pointed at the vermilion door: "With the door closed, how do I enter? Is this how your prince treats his guests? Shall I... do it like yesterday? Kick it down with one foot?"
"Cough, cough… Master Chu cracks a joke! We'll open it right away, yes right away!" the guard hurriedly uttered.
The truth was, he hadn't received such orders from his master. The mansion's main door isn't something you could simply open as you wish.
But the fellow in front of him didn't care about that. He also blasted his way in yesterday, and still came back out entirely unhurt today. Who's to say that if the door isn't opened, he wouldn't simply break it down again?
The material used for this magnificent door is not some common wood but a valuable rarity. Even the prince's mansion... does not have that much of it!
So, they thought, if the prince were to find out later, he certainly wouldn't blame them. He might even give them a reward.
Thus, the two guards opened the mansion gates directly and they ushered Chu Mo in as if they were welcoming an ancestor.
Afterwards, those two guards, like thieves, closed the mansion's main doors immediately after Chu Mo entered.
But this whole spectacle was witnessed by some people, who were stunned into silence.
"They opened the Prince's Mansion's front door, and invited Chu Mo, who just created a stir here yesterday..."
"What has the world come to?"
The few who witnessed all this were dumbfounded.
...
Chu Mo was directly ushered into Prince Xia Jing's study!
Not exaggerating at all, not even Xu Zhongliang would necessarily receive this treatment when he visits.
Virtually no one gets to enter Prince Xia Jing's study. Those that do are his absolute trusted associates, typically at least governors of provinces.
Yet here was Chu Mo, a thirteen-year-old boy, audaciously sitting in Prince Xia Jing's study.
If word of this got out, it would probably cause a seismic shock throughout the entire bureaucracy of Great Xia.
After some snacks and tea were brought in, it wasn't too long before Prince Xia Jing walked in, casually dressed. Seeing Chu Mo, he actually showed a tempting smile and said: "Apologies for keeping you waiting, Young Master Chu."
This sort of language coming from Prince Xia Jing's mouth was indeed astonishing. If there were a third person present today to witness this, nine out of ten would faint from shock.
Chu Mo waved a hand: "I just got here too, Pr... Cough cough, Prince, let's cut the crap. I know you don't like me, and I don't like you either. Where is the room you have prepared for me? Let's get started!"
Prince Xia Jing's smile faltered noticeably, as he inwardly cursed: You impudent brat! You thought you could call me an old crook again just because you see me? If it weren't for me needing something from you... Even if you were a general, let alone the grandson of one, I'd have cut you down long ago!
But such thoughts could only be entertained in his mind, he'd rather die than actually say them out loud.
"Fine, since Young Master Chu is straightforward, I'll take you there right now," Prince Xia Jing said, leading Chu Mo towards a serene area deeper within the mansion.
Along the way, Chu Mo didn't see anybody, and understood that Prince Xia Jing didn't want others to see these disgraceful events. Chu Mo wasn't worried that Prince Xia Jing would trick him. The old fox was smart and wouldn't be so foolish.
Speaking of which, even if Xia Jing really is that foolish, Chu Mo is not afraid. His master is right here in Yanhuang City!
Both lost in their thoughts, there was no conversation at all on the way. Soon, Chu Mo was brought to a large courtyard. Beyond the primary building, the rest of the buildings were like storerooms, all quite large.
"These storerooms contain a large amount of medicinal materials, ranging from ordinary herbs to the finest primordial medicines! They have everything!" Xia Jing looked at Chu Mo, saying, "Young Master Chu, you can take whatever herbs you need."
Chu Mo glanced at Xia Jing, "I pick them myself?"
Xia Jing looked at Chu Mo, "What is Young Master Chu implying?"
Chu Mo smiled and shrugged, "I understand you, but you're overthinking, Prince. I've said that I'm willing to help you mainly to dissolve our grudges. Besides, it's also a good deed for the unfortunate women in Yanhuang city."
Xia Jing's face darkened. It was perhaps only this man before him who dared to be so presumptuous in front of him. Even the emperor had never criticized him face-to-face over this matter. Those women may be pitiful, but it ultimately concerned a prince's dignity!
It also concerned the dignity of the royal family!
Chu Mo ignored Xia Jing's grim expression and calmly said, "So, you don't need to pretend to be so generous. I'm not interested in your medicinal materials. Do you think I lack medicinal materials? I don't have the leisure to rummage through your stores for medicinal ingredients. Send for the person in charge of the storerooms, and also bring me several strong, young servants to help with moving the medicinal ingredients. And, I'll make a list now. If you have them in your stores, that's great. If you don't, you'll have to collect them right away!"
"Yes. I was thinking too much." Xia Jing readily admitted his mistake, then said, "I'll arrange it right away!"
Chu Mo continued, "Also, I will write a letter. You should have someone deliver it to my house. I might need to stay here for at least seven or eight days! Arrange for my meals to be delivered, and you don't need to show up. I don't want to see you."
Xia Jing's face darkened, the corners of his mouth twitching violently, he took a deep breath, "Alright!"
"Well, now I'm making the list for you." Chu Mo sneered inwardly. "Old thief, do you really think... that your illness can be cured that easily? If I don't drain this Prince's Mansion off its stash, then I'm not Chu Mo!"
Thinking this, Chu Mo wrote briskly, beginning to make the list of what he needed.
The initial intention of establishing power indeed was to make collecting medical herbs more convenient. However, with a fat sheep right in front of him, why wouldn't he slaughter it?
At first, Xia Jing didn't even care, he hadn't even looked. In his view, it's probably just a prescription. What could happen even if this little bastard tried to scam him by listing a lot of precious herbs? He, Xia Jing, had more than enough money, even to rival a nation.
Even the primordial medicines, which were scarce among major schools, he could get. As long as it could cure his hidden disease in his body, he would pay any price without hesitation.
But gradually, Xia Jing felt something was wrong…. Because this bastard, from the moment he picked up the pen, had been writing for the duration of two sticks of incense and was still writing!
He had already written three large papers... and didn't seem to stop!
Xia Jing couldn't help but glance over, and the corners of his mouth began to twitch violently.
Chu Mo's handwriting was very beautiful, clearly revealing the talent in calligraphy. Although it hadn't reached the grandmaster level, it was already close to perfection.
Even Xia Jing had to admit that Chu Mo's handwriting could crush many people who claimed to be calligraphy masters.
Of course, this was not the reason for Xia Jing's twitching mouth.
The characters on the paper were quite small, but they were clear. On one large piece of paper, at least thirty or forty kinds of medicines were written!
Damn it, does his illness... need so many herbs to cure?
Xia Jing thought angrily, then walked over, picked up the first paper which was almost dry from the ink, took one look, and was instantly stunned.
Not a twitch of the mouth, but the entire person was dumbstruck.
The magnificent prince, who could sit and breathe calmly, even when the mountains collapse, at this moment, Xia Jing's eyes were wide open and his mouth left ajar, wide enough to fit a goose egg...
"Weeping Fern... One hundred thousand jin? Chu... Young Master Chu... Are you sure... You didn't write it wrong? Is it not ten jin?" It took a while for Xia Jing to ask such a question.
Chu Mo didn't bother to reply to him and was still writing incessantly, "Keep looking."
"Cycad... Two hundred thousand jin; Purple Dragon Vine... Thirty thousand jin; Snow Ginseng... Eighty thousand jin..." Xia Jing couldn't read any further. He felt that if he continued reading, he would definitely collapse, he would go mad and he would spare no effort to tear this little bastard into pieces!
Long illness makes a doctor, Xia Jing had heard of these medicines.
For instance, the cycad was known for invigorating the blood and removing stasis, and although it wasn't expensive, Xia Jing could afford it. Weeping fern was used to prevent wounds from festering. Although it wasn't cheap, for Xia Jing, it was a piece of cake. For instance, the Purple Dragon Vine and Snow Ginseng were for replenishing energy. Although they were quite expensive, for Xia Jing, the price was never an issue.
But all of this was based on one prerequisite: it couldn't need tens of thousands of jin at once! Even if Xia Jing could afford it, where would he find so much?
Watching Chu Mo still focused on writing, Xia Jing finally broke down and roared, "Chu Mo... You are too much! Are you mocking me? Damn it... Even if I opened the largest pharmacy in Great Xia... I wouldn't need so many medicinal ingredients!"
Chu Mo lifted his head, and coldly glanced at Xia Jing, "Are you going to treat it or not?"
