Heaven Slaying Blade

Chapter 76: Strength is Supreme

"You..." Xia Jing gritted his teeth, glaring at Chu Mo with rage.

Chu Mo faced Xia Jing with a calm and composed expression.

"Are you sure... you're not taking me for a fool?" Xia Jing was so infuriated he could almost see smoke coming from his nostrils. He was close to losing his mind. If it weren't for the tiny bit of rationality left in him, he would've killed this little brat without hesitation.

"Are you the doctor or am I?" Chu Mo sternly barked, slamming his hand onto the table, creating a great noise.

Fuming, he stood up to confront Xia Jing, "You know nothing! You old bandit, you always try to manipulate power within the court; you're arrogant in your own family; you're adamant among the common folk. What else do you know apart from this?"

Chu Mo stormed up to Xia Jing, grabbed the paper from his hand, crumpled it up and tossed it straight into the waste basket. The furious Chu Mo rebuked, "Do you really think I want to treat you? Old bandit, did you ever stop to think about the wicked things you've done over the years and how many times you should have died for them?"

Chu Mo glared at Xia Jing, "What is the public opinion of you in Great Xia? I can't offend you, so I've been trying to settle this grudge peacefully. I even chose your own mansion to concoct the medicine to avoid any misunderstanding. If you don't trust me, you could've assigned someone to watch over me. I don't possess a storage ring artifact that could make your medicines disappear, and you still suspect that I'm messing with you? Damn, I can't serve you anymore. Call your grand steward... to kill me!"

Chu Mo's eyes grew cold as he challenged Xia Jing, "Go on! Call for help! I know you have a top-level expert in your mansion who scans me with his divine sense from time to time... Call him out!"

Xia Jing was stunned, incredulous. Surprisingly, he took several steps back like a fool. He never expected that a teenage boy would dare to scold him in his face.

It wasn't just a reprimand, it was downright cursing!

Having been a prince since childhood, and later the regent, Xia Jing had never been berated or cursed even by his father, the late emperor.

Xia Jing found himself in an unfamiliar situation that never happened in his recollection of past fifty to sixty years.

He had cursed others in this manner, but being at the receiving end was a whole different experience.

"You...you...you..." Xia Jing struggled to find words as he watched Chu Mo, his face flushing with a mix of surprise and rage.

He then walked over to the waste bin, stooped to recover the crumpled paper that Chu Mo had thrown away. He wiped the sweat off his forehead, completely taken aback.

Imagine a dignified prince being reprimanded by a young boy to the point of sweating profusely!

"What's wrong with me? You think your illness is easy to treat? Tell me yourself, over the years, how many people have you sought help from? How many top apothecaries from powerful sects have you approached? But... did it help? Did it improve even the slightest?" Chu Mo sneered dismissively: "For this… do you know how much money you've spent? Did you ever bother to consider that? Would you believe me if I told you I can cure your disease easily?"

"I…" Xia Jing was momentarily speechless, his face full of embarrassment because the young boy's sharp words had hit him where it hurt the most.

Over the years, in order to cure his disease, he had spent a fortune... a gigantic astronomical amount, and yet, to this day, he had not seen even the slightest improvement.

If he was unable to father a child, but could at least perform... Xia Jing wouldn't have become so despicable over these years. The problem was, no matter the treatment, it didn't seem to have any effect!

During late-night solitude, Prince Xia Jing, known to be unfalteringly tough, had found himself crying alone countless times, even contemplating suicide!

A man without his potency tends to consider his existence a torment.

"Why aren't you speaking now? Go on, glare at me! Accuse me of mocking you!" Chu Mo glared right back at Xia Jing, his chest heaving with rage: "Nevermind, call your grand steward to kill me. You're a prince, I can't afford to offend you… go find someone else!"

"Cough, cough…" Xia Jing's mouth twitched, and he avoided Chu Mo's gaze, not daring to meet his eyes.

"Coughing damn it! Go call for help then! I've had enough! First, the manhunt, now the suspicion, I won't tolerate it any longer!" As Chu Mo finished, he was about to rip apart the other papers.

"Don't!" Xia Jing lunged forward like a hen protecting her chicks, grabbing the papers with medicinal prescriptions on them and pleaded, "Young Master Chu... Young Master Chu... isn't it enough that I've acknowledged my mistake? I just... I just don't understand, right? I never thought... that so many medicinal ingredients would be needed to cure a disease... I was... I was just anxious. You must not get angry, I apologize to you!"

As he spoke, tears could be seen welling in his old eyes, "You don't understand, the impact this matter has had on me... I am willing to give anything to cure this ailment! I know, I have done many wrong things over these years, causing harm to many people, I will make amends... I promise, from now on, I won't do anything conscienceless! As long as…as long as you can cure me…boo hoo…"

"Crying damn it! A mighty prince crying before a child, aren't you ashamed?" Chu Mo glowered, his tone, however, softening a bit.

Xia Jing choked out, "The pressure I've... been under these years... was... too great! I'm not a weak person... This is the first time... I've cried in front of anyone. Young Master Chu… you are young, you don't understand. This matter is of paramount importance to a man..."

"Enough, enough, your tears are too precious to be wasted. Remember, oh noble Prince, you pledged to correct the wrongs you've done over these years and vowed not to commit any conscienceless deeds ever again." Chu Mo, with a serious expression, looked at Xia Jing, "Right?"

"I promise! I assure you!" Xia Jing was so desperate he would've pounded his chest to assure Chu Mo if he could.

Power, status, identity... these were worthless in certain circumstances. Right now, in front of Chu Mo, Xia Jing was nothing more than a pathetic worm lacking a man's virility.

"Alright, I believe that His Highness, the mighty Prince of Great Xia would not break his word." Chu Mo said indifferently, sitting back down. He picked up his pen and then put it down again, "Your rudeness made me forget the rest of the medicinal ingredients…"

"Ah...um, what should we do then?" Xia Jing looked horrified, he even forgot to get angry, and he didn't dare to.

"No worries, you'll recall it over time. Go take care of the rest of these preparations. These medicinal ingredients won't gather themselves in a day. Whatever is ready, I'll process first."

Chu Mo glanced at Xia Jing and then spoke, "Elder, you are a man of status and repute, so don't hover over me unnecessarily. Whether or not I possess a storage artifact, you can plainly see. If you have the time, better to cultivate a little more instead. Not to be too forward, but for many years now, haven't you been stuck at the Sixth Layer Peak?"

Having said that, Chu Mo simply closed his mouth, stopping his speech.

Next, an agitated voice was heard from the air, "Is this really true, young friend?"

"Hmph, old man, you're actually monitoring me!" Chu Mo coldly snorted, leaning back into his chair with an icy expression.

Xia Jing stood by helplessly.

"The old man doesn't have so much time to monitor you! You're too suspicious, kid," the aged voice in the air stated. "Just yesterday, you caused a ruckus, and I took just one look at you. Today, I haven't come to watch you. I've promised to protect the safety of the prince."

Chu Mo laughed coldly, "Is this not the Prince's Mansion... Do I look like I would risk my life attacking the Prince here?"

The old voice from the air coughed twice, somewhat taken aback, "I have made that promise to the Prince... it must be kept..."

"Alright, I'll begrudgingly accept your explanation. Additionally, progressing from the Sixth Layer to the Seventh isn't a problem that can be resolved simply by using more primordial stones. Transitioning from bone refining to heart refining cannot be achieved with an abundance of primordial stones... we'll continue this later," said Chu Mo indifferently.

"You truly understand?" The astonished, elderly voice in the air then completely shifted its tone, "Alright, young friend, a deal it is! The old man will be waiting for you!"

"Don't dare monitor me again. I hate the feeling of being watched." Chu Mo huffed angrily.

"No more!" The voice in the air responded with absolute certainty.

With that, Chu Mo felt a great relief.

From his bold actions in the Prince's Mansion to his disdain for Prince Xia Jing, and finally his calm confrontation with the Elder in the Prince's Mansion, Chu Mo's source of confidence was this jade on his person!

Without it, not to mention the Elder who was a powerhouse at the Sixth Layer Peak, even Xia Jing could kill Chu Mo effortlessly!

Gazing at Prince Xia Jing who was looking at him with hopeful eyes, Chu Mo thought to himself: Power and influence... they have their benefits in this world, but there are things even more critical than power and influence!

That is... controlling the destinies of others!

However, that requires real strength. Not just combat power, but comprehensive abilities!

Chu Mo finally understood why the world's top doctors are so respected.

When you hold the lives of others in your hands, even if you are weak and harmless, nobody would dare to touch a single hair on your head!

This... is also a form of power!

Glancing at Xia Jing who was still standing there respectfully, Chu Mo said impatiently, "What are you still doing here? Go do your job quickly. There is nothing that concerns you here, remember to close the door."

"Uh... the letter you're supposed to send home, Young Master Chu?" Xia Jing carefully reminded.

Chu Mo smacked his forehead, showing a grinned smile to Xia Jing, "I almost forgot, thanks for the reminder!"

This simple thank you almost brought tears to Xia Jing's eyes, and he was surprisingly touched: this boy... is not as terrible as he initially seemed.

As Chu Mo spoke, he began writing a letter swiftly. After thinking for a bit, he wrote another letter, "Give this one to Xu Fufu for me. And about the matter of Young Master Zhang Chong... do not interfere. This person... I want."

Xia Jing was firstly stunned, then bitter smile appeared saying,"I could have found a way to smooth things over, but if Young Master Chu wants him, go ahead, I assure you I will not interfere."

"You really don't mind?" Chu Mo looked surprisedly at Xia Jing.

Because Chu Mo's intentions were plainly obvious- he wanted to take advantage of him. If Xia Jing doesn't intervene, Zhang Chong of Qingzhou will definitely despise him as a prince. The relationship between the two will necessarily suffer a rift. Chu Mo doesn't believe Xia Jing does not see through this.

Xia Jing sighed lightly, "If this illness can be cured, even if I end up as a carefree prince... what of it?"
