Heaven Slaying Blade

Chapter 86: Cage Carriage

Subsequently, the Demon Lord took from Chu Mo the checklist of top-tier primordial medicines needed to prepare the antidote.

"Master... can you find these herbs?"

"If I didn't know, it would be fine, but now that I do,it wouldn't be right to let you find them all by yourself. As I hunt primordial beasts, if I happen to come across them, I'll gather them."

The Demon Lord left Chu Mo with ten barrels of Primordial Beast blood that would last him three months, then he left.

Chu Mo put the Primordial Beast's blood into the jade space, and then started preparing for some the New Year's Eve banquet. Including the clothes for the banquet, Chu Mo had to handle all these things himself.

Helpless, there was not a single handmaiden in the whole Fan Residence, except for a few old soldiers' wives who helped in the kitchen and cleaning.

This was a very peculiar situation among the noble families throughout Great Xia.

In the entire general mansion, the only ones who could be called masters were the old man and Chu Mo. Since the old man was rarely at home and Chu Mo was self-reliant from a young age, he had never thought about needing attendants.

However, now Chu Mo indeed felt that without some young maid servants in the mansion, things didn't work well.

"It seems that when I get the time, I need to recruit some maid servants," Chu Mo muttered as he left his home and headed towards the Gluttonous Pavilion.

Because there were still some matters to be discussed with Miao Yi Niang before the New Year.

On arrival at the Gluttonous Pavilion, before meeting Miao Yi Niang, he saw the One-Armed Uncle.

"Young master, why are you here? I heard that you were constantly at the Prince's Mansion for the past few days. Is everything alright?" The face of the one-armed middle-aged man was concerned as he looked at Chu Mo.

"Everything's fine, of course." Chu Mo assured the One-Armed Uncle with a smile. "How is that matter going?"

The one-armed middle-aged man replied, "There are already 150 people! They are all in place, and I have tested them personally. Everyone's basic skills haven't been lost, and all are excellent. After the New Year, more than 500 people should join. These are the elite from the time in the army and have no encumbrances. Plus, they are extremely loyal to the old general. However, I didn't invite them in the old general's name, I used yours, Young Master."

"What did they say?" Chu Mo asked.

"Of course nothing, they are fully supportive when the Young Master is about to kick off some initiative," the one-armed middle-aged man replied.

"That's good then." An excited light shone in Chu Mo's eyes. "I might be joining the military after the New Year."

"Join the military? That's great!" The one-armed middle-aged man laughed. "The army is a good place!"

Chu Mo saw a hint of envy in the One-Armed Uncle's eyes, as well as nostalgia. This iron-like man was obviously still missing his military days.

"One-armed Uncle, don't rush, who knows, you might get a chance to rejoin the army one day," Chu Mo comforted.

"Forget about it, I don't think it would mean much if I return like this. But now, I am motivated to work on this project for the Young Master!" The one-armed middle-aged man looked at Chu Mo seriously. "I am very grateful to the Young Master for giving me this opportunity!"

Chu Mo waved his hand with a laugh, "Uncle, don't say that, you're my elder, you watched over me as I grew up."

"Yes, indeed, you've grown up in a blink of an eye, and you're about to start making significant achievements!" The one-armed middle-aged man was somewhat emotional.

At this moment, Miao Yi Niang came in from outside. Seeing Chu Mo, a hint of joy was apparent in her eyes. "Did the matter with the Prince's Mansion end?"

Chu Mo nodded, "Half of it is over, basically, there is no more hindrance."

"That's good, I've been worried about it." As Miao Yi Niang spoke, she had several sets of clothes brought over, "You will be attending the New Year's Eve banquet, right? You don't even have a little maid at your mansion, nobody serving you. The New Year's Eve banquet is not the same as usual, don't be too casual, people will laugh at you."

Chu Mo chuckled, "I was just about to ask Sister for help, Sister is always more thoughtful."

Miao Yi Niang laughed, "You... Wait a moment, I'll send a few handmaidens over. It's not good not to have a few handmaidens in the mansion."

"Then I won't be polite," Chu Mo grinned.

"Why be polite with me?" Miao Yi Niang gave Chu Mo a white look.

The one-armed middle-aged man sat there, looking at them with some confusion. He knew that the young master and Miao Yi Niang were familiar with each other, but he didn't expect the two to be this close. It made him happy to see the young master's wellbeing. Then he said, "By the way, the auction house advises not to dispose of all those Primordial Beast tendons, bones, and skins at once because it will lower the price. They are preparing to first build momentum at the first auction after the New Year, then slowly release the goods for sale. This will get the best price. What do you think, Young Master?"

"That certainly seems best, just as long as they don't shortchange us." Chu Mo replied.

"They wouldn't dare. Even if they have the shadow of some sects behind them, they still have to do business in Yanhuang City," Miao Yi Niang interjected.

The one-armed middle-aged man nodded, "That's right, right now they're treating me like an ancestor, they don't dare to offend."

Chu Mo discussed a little more with them about matters of forming his own power and then left with their good wishes.

Finally, on New Year's Day, the entire Fan Residence was decorated with lanterns and colored banners and full of festive atmosphere.

Miao Yi Niang sent ten handmaidens over, adding a gentle touch to the originally cold and rigid general's mansion. These maidens, all from good families, were diligent, responsive and knew when to advance or retreat.

Upon their arrival at the Fan Residence, they instantly liked the place where there weren't too strict rules, and quickly integrated. They got along very well with the others in the house.

By the evening, a very low-profile carriage without any identifiable badge came to a halt at the entrance of the Fan Residence.

The person emerging from the carriage, upon showing his identification badge, took the guards of the Fan Residence by surprise, and they rushed inside to report.

"Someone from the palace?" Chu Mo was slightly taken aback, then remembered what Xu Zhongliang had told him. Before the New Year's dinner, there was a knighting ceremony!

"They must be here to pick me up." Chu Mo quickly changed into his formal attire for the banquet, his demeanor adding an extra touch of confidence and nobility to his appearance.

Chu Mo then walked out of the door and, upon examining the badge of the man who had come for him, saw no reason to ask any further questions. He simply got into the carriage. Once inside, Chu Mo discovered that the seemingly unassuming carriage from the outside was luxuriously furnished on the inside.

Chu Mo's gaze fell upon a small coffee table in the middle of the carriage, laden with fruits and snacks, encircled by plush couches fitting enough for lying down. Every detail within the carriage was masterfully crafted and finely detailed.

The carriage ride was incredibly smooth, with not even the slightest bump being felt as they traveled down the road.

Chu Mo reclined on the couch, his eyes slightly closed, contemplating on what he should say or do when he meets the Emperor and Marshal Fang at the knighthood ceremony. Although Chu Mo had learned all about the various forms of etiquette from an early age, this was his first time engaging with such influential figures.

"I suppose it will be similar to interacting with Grandfather Xu..." Chu Mo thought to himself.

Just then, Chu Mo felt the carriage take a turn. This turn however, from Chu Mo's memory, did not lead towards the Imperial Palace!

The New Year's banquet was always held in the grand hall of the Imperial Palace. The grand hall, which could accommodate more than two thousand guests, was the largest banquet hall in Yanhuang City.

"Did they change the location?" The carriage was windowless, so he could not see the surroundings outside.

Chu Mo furrowed his brows and, with a thought to himself, used the jade to scan the carter driving the carriage.

"Yellow Rank third level, second level physique, no sickness." The information given by the jade was simple, but it made Chu Mo a bit suspicious. Because even for the royal family, they wouldn't typically assign a Primordial Pass warrior to drive a carriage!

"Brother, what is your position in the palace?" Chu Mo pondered for a moment then asked from the inside of the carriage.

"Young Master Chu, I am a lowly guard in the palace," answered the driver from outside, his voice carrying a tone of respect .

"Then why are you here to pick me up? From what I know, I do not think I hold such an entitlement," Chu Mo asked again.

"Young Master Chu, you are too modest. You are representing your grandfather at the palace banquet. As the respected old general is working hard on the frontline, it is only right for the palace to send a carriage to fetch you," replied the carter outside, his tone increasingly respectful, "We all highly respect the old general!"

Chu Mo simply replied a "Oh", without uttering much. However, his mind was already on high alert!

Initially, he had assumed that this carriage had been assigned by the Emperor. Although the knighting ceremony was a private affair, it was personally overseen and witnessed by the Emperor, Fang Mingtong, and Xu Zhongliang – all influential individuals. Therefore, sending a carriage for him seemed reasonable.

But now Chu Mo realized … something seemed wrong!

Firstly, the carter, who was supposedly a palace guard, was most likely not who he claimed to be! A mere guard who was also a third level Primordial Pass warrior? That didn't make sense! Furthermore, when questioned, the man didn't consider the knighthood ceremony, and he never once mentioned being sent by the Emperor, Chief Minister, or Marshal Fang...this was extremely suspicious.

What concerned Chu Mo the most was the trajectory of the carriage. After several turns, he was now certain: this was not the road to the palace!

What Chu Mo didn't know was that, not long after he had left, another carriage had arrived at the Fan residence to find nobody home.

"Young Master Chu, we're running a bit late, so I'll have to speed up. Please hold on tight," the driver suddenly spoke, noticing Chu Mo's silence.

Chu Mo's heart raced as a strong premonition of danger rose within him. Without a moment's hesitation, he punched the side of the carriage!

Thud!

Boom!

With a deafening noise, the entire carriage shuddered violently.

Chu Mo had held nothing back with his punch. With the might of the Dragon Elephant Power, used in conjunction with his superior technique, even a house could be easily demolished, let alone a mere carriage.

But...the body of the carriage remained largely intact. The blasted fur laid bare the metallic frame of the carriage, revealing black steel!

The carriage was constructed out of solid steel!

Thump! Thump!

Chu Mo launched two more punches at different sections of the carriage.

The tremendous force proved too much for the horses, resulting in them collapsing onto the road with a frantic neigh. Simultaneously, the carriage flipped onto its side, causing a commotion amongst the pedestrians on the road.

By this time, Chu Mo fully realized the whole carriage was made entirely of steel… fitting together perfectly, like a steel cage!
