Chapter 143: Underground deal
"Give me a few beers over here."
"Come and get them yourself! This isn't that kind of bar!"
"Let me do it." One of the members of our group walked over to claim the beers that had been tossed on the bar.
While this was happening, I was watching the scene around me.
This bar wasn't the cleanest bar or the most secure bar.
With the kind of clientele that were sitting here, it made it quite obvious what kind of bar this was. This certainly wasn't the kind of bar that one would think about doing any kind of business in.
But the business that I was here for was the kind of business that couldn't be done in the light of day.
It was the kind of business that could only be done in the underbelly like this bar.
After coming over with the beers, I turned to one of the people that was sitting at the table next to us. At the same time, that person seemed to be looking at me as if they were waiting for some kind of signal.
There was a long moment of silence that hung in the air before that person finally said, "You're Eagle?"
"You're Falcon?" I asked right back.
He didn't answer in the end as he waved for his men to stand up before he came over to our table and sat down.
There was no one that seemed to pay any attention to what we were doing as this was a place where this kind of thing was normal. After all, this bar was a bar where these kinds of deals were done in the first place.
After sitting down, he looked at me and asked, "So what is it that you're looking for?"
I didn't say anything as I looked at him, but eventually I said, "Didn't you already hear what I wanted? I already told the contact what I wanted."
He just said, "The contact doesn't tell us anything, you have to tell us exactly what you want."
It seemed like this was some kind of power move that he was playing by making me do this, but I just calmly said, "I've heard that you have goods that no one else has. I was hoping to get my hands on some of those goods."
"So it's the underground auction? But where's your sincerity?" He said while reaching his hand out.
I had already been expecting something like this, but I still said, "The contact already took my sincerity."
With a smile, the man said, "He gets his cut and I get my cut."
With the way that he looked at me, it was clear that he was treating me as some kind of newbie that was just entering this world for the first time.
But it wasn't as if this was a bad thing for me.
In fact, this was exactly what I wanted him to think.
"Are you sure that you want to gouge a repeat customer like this? I'm sure that I'll be able to bring more business to you."
"When you do, that's when you get treated differently. Until then, you get to pay what we call a tuition fee." The man said without any hesitation.
At this point, it was clear that he was seeing me as some kind of sucker.
I tried saying a few more things, but it didn't seem like it worked as he was just waiting for me to pay.
Eventually, it even seemed like he was getting tired of me with the way that he looked like he wanted to leave.
So in the end, I had no choice but to pay him.
Though in reality, it wasn't as if this small amount would hurt me to pay.
After receiving his money, the man stood up and waved his hand for us to follow him.
He didn't even bother talking to us anymore as he led us out of the bar.
It was clear that he was tired of talking with me with the way that he was acting.
I didn't say anything either as I brought my people to follow behind him.
But after we turned into an alley…
"Do you really think that you would be able to talk this much in this world? You should know your place." The man suddenly turned around with a dagger in his hand.
The rest of his men also pulled out their weapons and surrounded our group.
At the same time, there were some people that appeared at the ends of the alley.
It seemed that they had planned this for a long time with how they suddenly appeared.
I narrowed my eyes to look at him before saying, "Do you really want to do this? It would be easier if you just led us to the underground auction."
"Ha, ha, ha, I just don't want to. What are you going to do?" The man said while laughing disdainfully.
I didn't care that he laughed with disdain as I just shook my head and said, "It seems like I've played my role too well."
"Young master, please let me handle this. I want to stretch my old bones." The driver was the one that came forward with a dagger in hand.
This time, I didn't stop him as I waved my hand to let him go free.
With a smile on his lips, the driver stepped towards our attackers.
They all looked at us with smiles on their faces as if they didn't believe that he would be able to do anything all alone.
But in the end, all of them were lying on the ground with cuts all over them. There were even some that had stopped breathing because of their wounds.
"Who are you?" The man said in a voice that no longer had any disdain in it. Instead, there was only fear in his voice as he looked at us.
I just simply said, "You'll bring us to the underground auction now, right?"
