Hero or Villain, Both

Chapter 144: Underground auction

When his life was being threatened like this, there really wasn't anything that he could do.

So after swearing that he would lead us there, we dragged him up and forced him to lead the way.

Though this time, we didn't give him as much free reign as before.

This time, there was a dagger that was placed on his back, ready to stab him the moment that he tried anything funny. That made sure that this man didn't dare do anything.

After leading us around for a bit, we arrived at a warehouse.

But no matter how one looked at it, this should be an abandoned warehouse.

A place like this shouldn't have anyone that was here.

Only when he gave a secret tap on the side door did the warehouse open.

The moment that this door opened, we tensed up since we had no idea how they would react.

It seemed that this man leading us was actually tied to the underground auction, so once they found out that we had beaten up this man…

"Ha, ha, ha, look at you! What a sorry state you're in!"

This certainly wasn't the reaction that we had been expecting from the people watching the door. But the moment that they opened the door and saw the state that the man who was with us was in, they immediately broke out in laughter.

It was as if they really couldn't help themselves.

But just why were they laughing at this at someone that should have been on their side?

The man scowled when he heard this, but he didn't say anything. With the look on his face, it seemed like he was too embarrassed to say anything.

He just waved his hand for them to move out of the way before heading into the warehouse himself.

"Ha, ha, ha, apologies that you had to see that. I'm sure that his greed got the best of him, so he deserved what he got in the end."

I was surprised again to hear the guards of this underground auction say this, but I just gave a simple nod in response before saying, "Then can we head to the auction now?"

The guards gave nods in agreement before moving out of the way for us to enter.

After we entered, they quickly closed the door and then went back to their positions. However, one of them did come forward to lead us deeper into the warehouse where the auction was being held.

It seemed like this was the youngest member of their group.

Even though they didn't show any outward disrespect, it didn't seem like they had much respect for us either by sending their youngest member to us.

However, I could guess why they did something like this.

Right now, the important thing was keeping myself hidden, so it didn't matter how they treated me.

While we were walking through the warehouse, I asked the driver something, "How many do you see?"

"At least a few dozen hidden here and there, but they aren't that skilled. It should be easy for us to take them out if necessary."

Then looking forward, he said, "There is one that is hiding in the back though that seems a bit stronger. It would even take me a bit more effort to deal with someone like that."

I had a trace of surprise in my eyes when I heard this.

After all, for the driver to admit something like this, it meant that the person he was referring to really did have some abilities. I couldn't help feeling like I wanted to meet that person.

"Boss, I'm telling you that this group is anything but normal. The power that just that one person showed was on a different level. We need to do something about them, we can't let them into our auction."

The person who had been sitting in the chair that was called boss narrowed his eyes to look at this man.

This man was the guide that had led that group to the underground auction, the one that had been beaten after trying to rob them.

Now he was trying to convince his boss, the owner of the underground auction, to take action against. But it wasn't simply because he wanted to settle the grudge with them.

Rather, he knew that those people were dangerous, that was why he wanted to warn the boss.

Only the boss didn't seem to believe him.

"You made the first move to rob them and you got beaten up, now you're trying to get revenge with my hand? Do you really think that I'm that easy to manipulate?"

A chill ran down the man's spine when he heard this before quickly shaking his head and saying, "No, no, boss, I would never think that. I'm genuinely worried about this situation, which is why I reported this back to you. I would never dream of betraying the organization."

The boss of the auction hall narrowed his eyes to look at him before saying, "Do you really think that I don't know about the things that you've done? As long as they're paying customers, I have no reason to chase them out."

The man trembled once more when he heard this, but he still had to say something.

"Boss, I promise that this is not just an arbitrary idea. I promise with my life that this is something that will concern the future of the auction house. We need to deal with those…"

"Get out." The boss said in a cold voice as if he was tired of listening to this man.

In the end, the man had no choice but to leave the room with a dejected look on his face.

As for the boss, he didn't give a second thought about what that man said.

Though if he had taken that man seriously, then he wouldn't have suffered later.

Because he chose not to listen to him, the auction house was going to suffer quite a bit.
