Hero or Villain, Both

Chapter 145: Some normal products

After being shown to our seats, there wasn't anything else that happened.

The seats in this place were different from other auctions where one could see who was bidding.

Since this was an underground auction, the things that were being sold in this place were things that couldn't be bought normally. These were things that could only be bought here because they didn't dare sell them in the open.

As such, the auction itself had to care about hiding the identities of their customers.

That was why each seat was in a separate room that even had special magic arrays on them that would hide the people that were sitting in them.

Looking at these magic arrays, I couldn't help saying, "It seems that they've spent quite a bit on building this place."

The driver gave a nod, but then he started moving around the room.

I didn't stop him as I knew what he was doing.

Instead, I paid attention to the stage in front of me.

This underground auction was already currently in progress, so there was an item that was already being sold. However, this item wasn't one that was considered that strange for a place like this.

It was a forbidden herb that was being sold.

This was the kind of herb that could be used to create narcotics or special poisons as long as one knew how to process it. The trace of this particular herb had been banned a long time ago after it was used in an assassination attempt.

That was why it was being sold in an underground auction like this.

It didn't take long for the price to be raised on this item, but soon there were only two people left that wanted to take this item.

As I watched the bidding war, I asked the driver, "What do you make of it?"

"One is a skilled killer and the other is someone who just wants to buy it for its value." The driver casually said as he looked at the two rooms that the bids were coming from.

"Oh? How can you tell?" I asked with one brow raised.

"Ha, ha, ha, if I couldn't sense this much killing intent, then I would have spent all my time in vain." The driver said with a chuckle.

I gave a simple nod in response without saying anything since he was right.

If he really couldn't tell this, then the money that I spent to hire him would have been a waste.

In the end, it was the killer who won this bid.

There was no doubt that there would be an assassination attempt soon, but that didn't really matter to me since I was a simple merchant.

The next item that was brought to the stage was…

"A beautiful woman that you can play with! We've made sure to break her down, so there's nothing left for you to do! All you have to do is bring her home and enjoy!"

There was a terrified beautiful girl who was sitting inside of the cage that had been brought onto the stage.

Even though they dressed her up in fancy clothes, just a single look would expose the fact that this was nothing more than camouflage. After all, fine feathers made fine birds.

When one looked carefully, they could see that she was clearly a bit thin from lacking proper nutrition. At the same time, there were some bruises and wounds that were hidden under her clothes.

But even then, I didn't act.

This kind of thing was just normal when it came to an underground auction house like this.

There were quite a few people that bid for her in the end, but the price didn't go up by that much.

Even if she was a beautiful toy, it didn't mean that she was that rare.

That was why her price was far less than what the poisonous herb sold for.

After this beautiful girl, there was a vase that was brought up to the stage.

One wouldn't think that there would be a vase like this in an underground auction, but this vase wasn't just any vase.

This vase was an antique and one that was very rare because of the material that it was made from.

"I've seen that vase before. Isn't this the one that is supposed to be in the museum in the Abel Kingdom?"

I looked at the vase before nodding in agreement to the subordinate that said this and then I said, "It's clear that it was stolen since there is still a magic mark that is on it. This can be considered a trap since whoever stole it is trying to get rid of it before they're caught. However, this auction house isn't a fool and should have already reported that person to the Abel Kingdom. In the end, the thief is captured, they will get their fee, and the losses will be fielded by the one that buys it."

"Just like an underground auction to do something like this, right?" The driver said with a faint smile.

I once again nodded in agreement as I watched the people bidding.

From the rooms, I could tell that there were some people that recognized the vase as well.

It was because they were bidding small increases as if they were thinking of a way to cheat the system.

For the people that came to this kind of auction, they had money and power.

So if they wanted to find a way to fool those that came for the vase in the end, it was possible.

But once again, that wasn't my problem.

"This next item on sale is an interesting one since we don't usually get something like this. I hope that everyone will seize this chance."

After the auctioneer said this, there was a book that was brought onto the stage.

It didn't seem like the crowd was interested in this book, but I wasn't the same.

My eyes lit up the moment that I saw this book.
