Chapter 14: Ch 14: Sppiinnn!!!
"Ouch!"
The punch came out of nowhere.
Espeon's tiny fist slammed into my face, dragging me out of my nightmare. It wasn't the most graceful way to wake up, but considering the dream I'd been having, I wasn't exactly complaining. I'd been stuck in that godforsaken loop of my parents' cold, accusing faces. Every time they looked at me, I could feel the weight of their neglect, their judgment. It wasn't a dream—it felt like reality. They blamed me for their divorce, tragic fate or whatever. For everything.
But then, Espeon's tiny paw thwacked me in the face, snapping me back to the reality. I blinked, dazed for a second. Looking up, I saw the large, innocent eyes staring down at me in concern and care.
"Yeah, yeah. I'm awake," I muttered, rubbing my face where the punch had landed. Attack 100%, Damage 1%. I wasn't sure whether I should be grateful or annoyed but in the end, you can't help but adore this little creature.
Espeon didn't seem to care. It was already hopping off my chest and padding toward the kitchen. Its fluffy tail swayed with excitement like it had a hundred things to do, no it was the opposite, I was tasked to feed this creature. I am wondering if I am the one who owns him or he owns me? I guess it's a cat effect.
I sighed.
With a groan, I pushed myself out of bed, trying to shake off the dream's grip. The day had to start somewhere, so it might as well start in the kitchen. I headed downstairs to prepare breakfast, after that shitty dream I needed a pleasure experience to knock off the cloud of pessimism off my head.
As I walked into the kitchen, I couldn't help but feel a little excited. Not because I had any particular reason to be happy, but because my system had new rewards waiting for me. I was about to take them out last night, but resisted doing it off screen and waited till I was fully present in the moment.
I paused at the counter and logged into system interface. I had four spins, and I was eager to see what kind of rewards I had earned.
With a dramatic flourish, I tapped the screen.
[ Spin 1: Language Mastery ]
You can learn any language by just hearing it for the first time.
"Well that solves the communication problems" I mumbled, rubbing my chin thoughtfully.
I could already imagine it—some devil or angel jabbering away in some ancient language, and I'd just absorb it like a sponge. I'd be the shining star at the factions party. "Oh, you speak Draconic? Yeah, I picked that up last week. Let me tell you a joke in it."
That could be useful, though. No more awkward "I don't understand a word you're saying" moments in this crazy world. Maybe I could even use it to get the upper hand in negotiations... or just impress people. Either way, language barriers? Gone.
More points added to charm.
[ Spin 2: Senzu Beans ]
These small, seemingly ordinary beans hold immense value, as their ability to instantly restore health, cure fatigue, and even rejuvenate the body makes them a coveted resource for those who find themselves in constant battle or dangerous situations. Use these wisely.
I blinked, my mouth hanging open for a second. Senzu Beans? I was holding a pouch of magical beans that could heal anything, instantly. Like, "oh, I'm dying from a fatal wound—let me just pop a bean and then I'm good to go!"
"Hell yeah!" I grinned in excitement "This is exactly what I need in case I ever get my ass handed to me by some random god-tier opponent. And I won't have to worry about, you know, staying dead."
I shook my head, amazed. "Not bad at all. Better than what I expected"
[ Spin 3: Lostvayne ]
It is an extremely sharp and resistant sword, twice as hard as diamond.
It's special ability allows you to create upto six clones of yourself. The clones only retain a fraction of the original's power, with one clone having half the power level of the original. The halved power level is divided among each additional clone. Each Physical Clone is still able to use the powers that original have.
The words hit me like a freight train. I almost dropped my eggs. Wait, what? Lostvayne?I couldn't help but laugh. Lostvayne—the legendary weapon of Meliodas from Seven Deadly Sins.
I could already imagine myself swinging it around like some kind of overpowered anime protagonist, effortlessly cutting through enemies. I could picture the dramatic whoosh as the sword separated into multiple blades, the sound of an explosion in the distance as everything around me got obliterated.
"Okay, this is a huge win." I grinned like a maniac, clearly delighted by the thought of wielding such a powerful weapon.
Spin 4: Aether Vault
It is a unique dimensional storage ability allowing the user to access an infinite, self-contained space that exists beyond the bounds of time and space. It is a personal pocket dimension, entirely at the user's command, capable of storing anything from small objects to vast quantities of materials, weapons, and even living creatures.
It felt like the universe was just throwing me a whole bunch of advantages, and I wasn't about to let them go to waste.
I was feeling pretty good about these rewards.
But, reality check. Can I handle the enemies that I am going to face next with these powers?
No time for that, though. Breakfast.
I closed the system interface with a satisfied sigh. "Alright, let's see if I can surprise myself with my cooking skills"
The familiar routine soothed me. I cracked eggs into a pan, chopped vegetables with precision, and watched as everything came together in a neat, satisfying way. My hands moved without thinking. It wasn't just food. It was comfort that I was now accustomed to. Something I could control in a world that constantly threw me into chaos.
I was halfway through preparing the dishes when Asia appeared, walking into the kitchen, rubbing the back of her neck. "Good morning, Kazuya-san" she said with a soft smile, looking guilty. "Sorry I woke up so late."
"Good morning Asia, I'm almost done with the breakfast" My Italian surprised her and I just explained it to her that I used my sacred gear to learn language, well I feel bad for lying to her, but this system secret was going with me to the grave.
I motioning toward the table with a smile, "Take your time"
She nodded, still looking a little unsure, and disappeared into the bathroom to freshen up. I turned my attention back to the food and finished arranging everything just the way I liked it. I wasn't exactly a chef, but I took pride in making a meal for someone else. Asia seemed like she needed that right now and not to forget my beloved pet- no my owner, Esp.
A few minutes later, Asia returned, looking a little more awake, her hair damp from the shower. She sat across from me, her eyes flicking nervously to the food. I could tell she was still processing everything, everything that had happened since she met me.
She hesitated for a moment before speaking. "Kazuya-san... about last night… when you fought the fallen angels. Were you hurt?" she asked, her voice trembling slightly, like she was afraid of the answer.
I shook my head, offering a calm, reassuring smile. "Nah, I'm fine. Fallen angels are no more, and you don't need to worry about them anymore. You're part of my group now. You're safe here."
Her eyes softened, and I could see her relief. But then she put down her fork and looked at me seriously. "Kazuya-san, I... I need to tell you something about my past, now that we are in a group. So I should tell about myself to you"
But as she tried to speak, she couldn't muster the courage to open her heart to me.
I leaned forward, giving her my full attention. "It's okay if you don't want to talk about it. If you're not ready, we can just focus on the food and enjoy our meal. You don't have to share anything you're not ready for."
Her eyes widened slightly, as if my words had caught her off guard. It was clear she had been unsure about sharing her story. But seeing that I wasn't pressing her to do so seemed to ease some of her hesitation. She smiled at me, touched by my consideration.
"Thank you," she whispered, her voice soft but full of gratitude. "I appreciate you being so understanding."
She paused for a moment, looking at the food as though weighing something in her mind. "I'll tell you when I'm ready," she finally said, her voice a little steadier now. "For now, I'll just enjoy the food."
I nodded, offering a smile. "Whenever you're ready, Asia. No rush."
She smiled back, and we both dug into our breakfast in comfortable silence.
As we ate, Asia suddenly looked up from her plate, her gaze fixed on something behind me. I could see her eyes widen slightly. "Kazuya-san" she said, her voice barely above a whisper "Is she also the member of your group?"
I turned, following her gaze. At the back of the house, near the far corner of the yard, stood a little girl.
I felt a chill run down my spine. What the hell?
Espeon, who had been happily munching away, suddenly stopped. It looked up, ears twitching, its fur bristling slightly. Its gaze locked onto the little girl, and I could feel the tension in the air. Something was off about her. She was dressed in gothic attire, with long black hair down to her hips and black eyes. Her ears had pointed tips, contrary to the ones human have and at this point I came to conclusion about who was this uninvited guest.
The girl didn't move. She didn't say a word. She just stood there, staring, the mirror between us seperating her strange, still presence. I couldn't tell where exactly her gaze was focused on, was it all of us, Asia, me, Espeon or the food on our table?
My heart pounded as I tried to reject the presence of girl in front of me. My instincts screamed at me to run as far I can, the girl in front of me was someone who could blow my existence into oblivion with a bang of a single finger. But I was too spooked to move my spot as she began to step forward in our direction.
And just like that, the peaceful morning had turned into a chaotic one.
