Highschool DxD: Spin to Win

Chapter 13: Ch 13: Aftermath

Kazuya's POV

The cold breath escaped from my mouth as I stood in the centre of the church, eerie church turned into the frost-laden landscape. Ice crept across the walls, encasing the shattered remnants of fallen angels and priests alike. I stretched my arms lazily, letting out a yawn that echoed through the hollow silence. My gaze drifted to the two ladies who were awe struck at the picture that I painted.

The ice, the bodies, the sheer destruction—it was all a testament to what I'd done. And there was a look of both confusion and surprise, not believing that I was able to do something like this on my own.

Of course, they'd show up, I thought, stifling another yawn. Can't have a little fun without her leaving a bittersweet taste at the end. I don't know if her time is so good that she showed up while I was still here or utterly bad that she couldn't interfere before I created this whole mess.

I waved at them, a casual flick of my hand, as if we were meeting at a café and not in the aftermath of a massacre. "Yo," I called out, my voice carrying a nonchalance that I knew would irk them. "I was waiting for you to show up" I followed their gaze and asked again "Are you girls enjoying the view?"

Rias stepped forward, her shoes clicking against the icy floor. Her crimson hair seemed to glow in the dim light, and her expression was a mix of frustration and curiosity. "Kazuya," she began, her tone sharp, "Care to explain why you decided to turn this church into a winter wonderland? And why there are dead fallen angels and priests scattered all over here?"

I shrugged, stuffing my hands into my pockets. "They messed with the wrong person."

Wow, smooth, Kazuya. Real convincing. I could practically hear my own sarcasm echoing in my head. But hey, it wasn't like I owed them an explanation. It's between me and fallen angels, so she won't interfere like she told me, 'We won't interfere if you get in trouble with fallen angels or any other faction'.

Akeno's eyes narrowed, her usual serene demeanour replaced by a flicker of concern "That's not an explanation, Kazuya. Do you have any idea what you've done? The fallen angel faction won't take this lightly. You've just painted a massive target on yourself."

I smirked, tilting my head as I met her gaze. "Oh, where is it? I can't see it"

If the Azazel I know is like he was in anime then I bet I can charm him with my cooking skills. But it all comes down to if he would not straight up kill me on sight.

Rias crossed her arms, her voice turning into more serious tone. "This isn't a joke, Kazuya. You've just signed the contract of whole lotta troubles and don't think your life will be in order from here on"

I rolled my eyes, stepping over the frozen body of a fallen angel as I walked toward them. "Look, they came after me. They wanted my Sacred Gear. I just… returned the favor."

Okay, so maybe I came here looking for a fight. But hey, they started it. Probably. I think. Whatever. They attacked and I attacked so I guess it's even and it's the winner who decides right or wrong.

Rias's eyes flashed with suspicion. "You expect me to believe you were just defending yourself? This"—she gestured to the frozen carnage around us—"doesn't look like self-defense. It looks like a calculated attack."

I stopped a few feet away from them, my smirk never wavering. "Believe what you want, Rias. But at the end of the day, this is my business, not yours."

Akeno stepped forward, her voice calm but laced with warning. "You're making a mistake, Kazuya. The fallen angels won't stop until they've dealt with you. And when they come, don't expect Rias to protect you"

I chuckled, shaking my head. "Yeah sure Himejima-san. I don't need your help. Never have and never will."

Okay, that might've been a bit too dramatic. But hey, when in doubt, double down on the edgy one-liners.

Rias's gaze hardened, and for a moment, I thought she might say something more. But instead, she sighed, her shoulders relaxing slightly. "You're playing a dangerous game, Kazuya. And one day, it's going to catch up to you. You don't know the politics and powerful beings who can kill with just a snap of their fingers"

I shrugged again, turning my back to them as I walked toward the church's shattered doors. "Maybe. But until then, I'll keep doing things my way."

The cold wind greeted me as I stepped outside, the moonlight casting long shadows across the snow-covered ground. I could feel their eyes on my back, but I didn't look back just like at my past.

As I disappeared into the night, the sound of their voices faded behind me, leaving only the crunch of snow beneath my boots and the faint hum of power coursing through my veins.

Let them come. A grin tugged at the corners of my lips as I imagined the new spins I would be getting as I reach home.

And with that, I vanished into the darkness, the icy church standing as a silent monument to my latest escapade.

Another day, another mess. Just how I like it.
