Chapter 11: CHAPTER 10
The Power That Shouldn't Exist: The Fear in His Eyes
"From yourself."
Kieran's words cut through the air like a blade, sharp and unforgiving.
The forest around us feels unnaturally still, as if even the night is holding its breath. The energy that exploded from me moments ago has settled, but I can still feel it—coiled beneath my skin, humming like a beast waiting to be unleashed.
My heart slams against my ribs.
He's afraid of me.
Kieran Blackwood—the strongest Alpha I've ever known, the same man who rejected me, who stood before an entire pack and cast me aside—is afraid of what I might become.
I swallow hard, my throat dry. "What do you mean?"
Kieran doesn't answer immediately. His golden eyes search mine, as if weighing whether to tell me the truth or bury it deeper. But I'm done waiting.
"Don't shut me out," I snap, taking a step toward him.
"Not anymore."
His jaw tightens. "Aria, you don't understand—"
"Then make me understand!" My voice rises, cracking under the weight of my emotions. "I have a right to know what's happening to me."
Caelum chuckles from behind me, the sound dark and amused. "She's right, you know."
Kieran whirls on him, his wolf flashing in his eyes. "Stay out of this."
Caelum smirks, unbothered. "You keep saying that, but I don't think you actually want me to."
I clench my fists. I don't have time for their power struggle. My body is still buzzing from whatever the hell just happened, and my mind is screaming for answers.
I turn back to Kieran.
"You rejected me because of the prophecy.
Because the elders were afraid of me.
" I take a shaky breath, forcing my voice to stay steady.
"But what exactly were they afraid of?"
Kieran exhales slowly, his hands curling into fists at his sides.
When he finally speaks, his voice is low, measured.
"They weren't afraid of you, Aria."
His gaze sharpens.
"They were afraid of what you are."
The ground beneath me feels unsteady.
My fingers tremble, but I don't back down.
"And what am I?"
A tense silence stretches between us.
Then, finally—
Kieran's next words steal the breath from my lungs.
"You're not just a wolf," he says quietly.
"You're something more."
I blink. "More?"
Kieran nods, his golden eyes never leaving mine.
"Your bloodline—it's not supposed to exist."

A Power That Shouldn't Be
A shiver runs down my spine.
I don't know what I expected him to say.
Maybe that I was cursed. Maybe that I was some kind of forbidden child.
But not supposed to exist?
I shake my head. "That doesn't make sense.
My parents were part of the pack. My bloodline isn't some secret."
Kieran's expression hardens.
"Your parents were Shadowmoon wolves.
But their bloodline?
It was never meant to survive."
His words hang between us, heavy and suffocating.
I clutch my arms, my breath shallow.
"Why?"
Caelum's voice is the one that answers this time.
"Because you're part of the Lunar Bloodline."
The world tilts.
I blink at him.
"The what?"
Caelum steps forward, silver eyes gleaming in the moonlight.
"The Lunar Bloodline," he repeats.
"A lineage that was wiped from history.
A bloodline that was feared, hunted, and erased because of what it could do."
I shake my head.
"That's impossible."
Caelum chuckles.
"Is it?" He gestures toward the scorched earth around us—the aftermath of whatever power had just exploded from me.
"Do you think that was normal?"
I swallow hard, my throat tight.
No. It wasn't.
I glance at Kieran, hoping—praying—that he'll tell me this is all a mistake.
That I'm just a normal wolf.
That I belong somewhere.
But his expression tells me everything I need to know.
He believes it.
He's always believed it.
"You knew," I whisper.
"You knew what I was this whole time."
Kieran clenches his jaw.
"I suspected."
A bitter laugh bubbles from my throat.
"You suspected?"
I shake my head, fury burning through my veins.
"You let me think I was nothing.
You let me believe I wasn't worthy of you.
And all this time, you were just afraid of what I might become?"
Kieran exhales sharply.
"It wasn't that simple."
"Wasn't it?"
My voice cracks.
"You could have told me."
Kieran takes a step forward.
"I was trying to protect you."
My hands shake, the energy inside me sparking again, wild and unstable.
"From what? From myself?"
His golden eyes darken. "Yes."
The word slices through me, sharp and cold.
Kieran watches me carefully, his body tense.
"You don't understand, Aria.
The Lunar Bloodline wasn't just feared—it was hunted.
Anyone who carried it was seen as a threat. If the Council ever found out what you are—"
"They'd kill me," I finish for him, my voice hollow.
Kieran doesn't deny it.
My stomach twists.
The pieces are falling into place too quickly, too violently.
The prophecy.
The rejection.
The way the elders always watched me, like they were waiting for something to happen.
They weren't afraid of me because I was weak.
They were afraid because they knew I wasn't.

The Awakening
The energy surges again, hotter this time, curling in my chest like fire.
My breath shudders as I stumble back, pressing a hand to my heart.
It's happening again.
My body is changing.
Kieran moves toward me, but I shake my head. "Stay back."
He hesitates. "Aria—"
"I said stay back."
A pulse of power rips through me, sending waves of heat spiraling outward. The trees around us shake, the air crackling like a storm about to break.
Panic flashes in Kieran's eyes.
"Aria, you need to calm down."
"I can't," I gasp.
The fire inside me is spreading, swallowing my thoughts, my control.
I drop to my knees, fingers digging into the dirt as a strangled sound rips from my throat.
My skin burns, my body trembling.
Caelum watches with eerie calmness, as if he expected this.
"You're awakening," he murmurs.
A low, guttural sound escapes me—something inhuman.
The world blurs, and for a split second, I see myself through different eyes.
Silver.
Glowing.
Not human.
Not wolf.
Something more.
Then—
Everything goes dark.
Aria's transformation has begun, but will she survive it? Or will the power she never knew she had consume her whole?
