How did i end up like this?

Chapter 3: Chapter 3

The leaf floating in the brimming cup of water sways faintly. Leaf movement… means Manipulator, right?

Manipulation, huh? …I wanted to be a Specialist.

I guess there's nothing I can do about it, Can't fight genetics, I guess. No amount of grinding will change that.

But now that I'm confirmed as a Manipulator, I've got no choice—time to create a Hatsu that fits.

Now, what kind of ability should I make?

I'm agonizing over this, but—plot twist!—I actually prepared for this moment. Over six years of meditating, I filled a blank notebook with Nen ability ideas tailored to every category!

Behold: "Black History"!

Literally, a chuunibyou anthology. Pages upon pages of "cool" Nen abilities I brainstormed. If anyone saw this, I'd die of shame—guaranteed.

"Emission-type: Evil King Flame-Slaughter Black Dragon Wave"…? Yes, I ripped that straight from Yu Yu Hakusho. Don't @ me.

(Also, the entire notebook's written in Japanese. Good luck deciphering that in this world. …Wait, does "Japan" even exist here?)

Sure, the notebook's full of gag techniques and chuunibyou fantasies, but there are legit ideas too. Let's flip to the Manipulator section.

…Hmm. Probably this one or that ability. Not sure if I can pull it off, but maybe stacking restrictions will brute-force it? If I nail this, training will get way easier.

Time to craft my Hatsu! …*Wait—*how do you even create a Nen ability?! do I just strongly think about the Nen ability I've come up with?

Hmm. It's a difficult decision, but I've finally come this far, ugh. After all this time, I hate delaying… but its better to make it carefully. Feels like the leaf'll need to move more first. Maybe train my Ren more? …Back to hell training.

To strengthen Ren, I think you're supposed to maintain it continuously? For now—Ren!

N-no good. Five minutes is my limit. Beyond that? Impossible! Why's this so exhausting?! I'm on the verge of crumbling. None of my past training was this brutal—mining was survival, Ten was just meditation, Zetsu barely drained me…

Dammit! If I don't push through now, it's all pointless. Let's set a deadline: one month. One month of grinding. Having a goal might spark some motivation. Alright, let's do this!

…But today, I'll use Zetsu and rest.

Ugh, exhausted… This whole month, it's been work > Ren, work > Ren on loop. I'm so done. Quitting work is not an option—gotta eat. No way I'm telling my boss, "Need a month off for Nen training!"

But I stuck it out. Now I can hold Ren for 15 minutes. I crushed it.

Time for the Water Divination Test again. Whoa. The leaf's moving more—swayed a little → swayed a lot!

…No clue if this is progress. Did I botch the training?

....

Self-taught from half-remembered manga lore has its limits.

…Screw it. Time to create. My Nen ability.

Visualizing the Nen ability's mechanics in my mind…

Focusing every ounce of will to activate it—Hatsu!

Did it work?!

Ability Details

[Original Knowledge]

Type: Manipulation-Type

Allows the user to manipulate their original memories to perfectly recall Hunter x Hunter canon.

Cannot access non-Hunter x Hunter-related memories.

Restrictions

"This ability cannot retrieve memories unrelated to Hunter x Hunter*."*

Vows

"If the user reveals the existence of their original-world knowledge to others, this ability becomes permanently unusable.

Exception: Sharing knowledge obtained via this ability is permitted, Only exposing its source is forbidden."

It worked! In the original series, memory-reading abilities like Pakunoda were Specialist-Type—thought I'd need that too—but manipulating my own memories stays within Manipulation-Type!

Humans forget things constantly, but those memories aren't gone—just buried deep. Heard somewhere they linger in the brain's recesses. This ability drags them back up… as long as it's HUNTER×HUNTER-related.

Now I can fill gaps in my Nen knowledge. Time to reread everything.

…Rereading the manga, it hit me: Chairman Netero might not even be born yet in this era.

He secluded himself at 46, fully "hatching" post-50. The timeline's fuzzy, but his dojo-crushing phase suggests he descended within 10 years of that. Since that's stated to be 60+ years pre-canon, he'd be around 120 years old during the main story. Volume 4 even mentions him being "roughly a century old" two decades prior.

But now? 127 years pre-canon. Netero's either unborn or a toddler.

…So I'm older than Netero? Seriously? I'm the fossil here?! Any hope of surviving to meddle with the plot just evaporated.

…Back to reading.

Nope. Meruem's unbeatable. Not that I'm aiming to take him down, but rereading the arc? Humanity's doomed.

Could Gon pull it off? But what even was his evolved form? As an Enhancer, did he turbocharge his body and aura? Feels shaky… Unless his Nen-type shifted to Specialist? Enhancer → Specialist isn't impossible, I guess.

Either way, the Limitations & Vows must've been brutal. Even Neferpitou would've balked.

But that's 100+ years away. I'll stress later. For now, compiling Nen info into Black History. Using [Original Knowledge] mid-training's exhausting.

For matters unrelated to Nen, I can use [Original Knowledge] when I really need it.

Finally done… I painstakingly combed through every Nen-related info manga volume, jotted down notes, then reorganized everything into categories: basics, applications, training methods, and Nen types. A brutal grind. Could've finished in minutes with a damn computer. When do those even hit the market here?

This world's tech tree is bizarrely lopsided—nukes exist, but air travel relies on slower-than-planes airships. And somehow, internet infrastructure might outpace my original world? All human data stored in central systems? What's with that?!

At least my Nen training'll finally pick up speed. Can't deny there are stuff that the manga doesn't cover—but way better than winging it blind.

A mentor would've been ideal, but… no Nen friends here. Three months since awakening Nen, and I've yet to spot another user (not even someone using Ten).

In the manga, they're everywhere 'cause we're following freaks like Gon. In reality, there are only a handful of Nen users. No easy encounters here.

Now my training hinges on one thing: grit. That's the hardest part. Years—decades—of grueling practice? No way I'll last.

If "train 100 years → get OP" were that simple, everyone'd do it.

Maybe I really should create a second Nen ability… If this one works, it could force me to keep training—even if I want to quit.

Then there's the third ability I've been brainstorming. Not impossible to pull off, but the odds are stacked against me.

Nen thrives on willpower and aura reserves, so technically it's doable… but sustaining that effort? Requires the second ability.

TL;DR: Third ability needs the second. (Neither exists yet. Sigh.)

...If the third ability works well, I will be able to get involved with the original story. Furthermore, since I should definitely be getting stronger, there will be less danger even if I interact with characters from the original story. In other words, I will finally be able to achieve my initial goal: 'losing my virginity with a character from the original work.

This is great. But if I fail, the consequences of the contract could be pretty disastrous. Still, I want to make my dream come true...

Alright. First, I need to create the second ability. I'll think about the rest after that.

...One of my bad habits is postponing problems whenever I hit a dead end in my thoughts.

The second ability, like [Original Knowledge], is a manipulation-type ability.

Its name is [Absolute Obedience / Geass].

…Well, unlike the original reference, it's not such a convenient ability. In the first place, this isn't an ability that affects others. Like [Original Knowledge], it's an ability that manipulates myself. I came up with the idea after seeing how Shalnark manipulated himself.

[Absolute Compliance / Geass]

Type: Manipulation-TypeForces the user to obey self-imposed commands absolutely.Memories, knowledge, and experiences gained during activation remain post-deactivation.The user's psyche reverts to its pre-ability state.

Restrictions

"Can only target the user."

"Commands must be issued while staring at one's reflection via Gyo."

"Only one command can be active at a time."

"Commands must be physically/logically possible (e.g., no 'Live forever' or 'Teleport')."

"Ability deactivates upon the user's death."

Vows

"Once activated, the ability cannot be self-deactivated."

"Permanently unusable after activation—even if the command fails."

Originally, I wanted this ability to conjure a contract scroll that forces compliance with whatever's written on it. But I'm not sentimental about paper, and conjuring it every time felt tedious. Would've worked if I were a Conjurer-Type…

The ability's conditions might seem half-baked, but stacking extra restrictions should compensate… probably.

With this, I can work hard even when I don't like training. Just command myself, "Train!" and my body obeys—no willpower required.

Logically, I know I need to train, but emotionally? I hate working hard. This ability's tailor-made for someone like me.

…Pathetic, I know. but I'd like to think that this is what the average student in modern Japan is like.

The catch? One-time use. Even if the command fails, the ability's permanently spent. I need to think carefully about the orders I follow.

Three days since creating [Absolute Compliance/Geass]. Spent them agonizing over the optimal command.

That's when I thought, Nen's effectiveness hinges on mindset. I think it's definitely more effective to practice Nen while enjoying it, rather than practicing Nen reluctantly. Same applies to physical training—passion breeds skill, as they say.

It just occurred to me, but it made sense to me.

In short—command myself to enjoy training! A hardcore mental override. This Nen ability should make it possible.

Decision made. No turning back. Time to face the mirror.

First step: Gyo while staring at my reflection.

I…Couldn't activate Gyo…

Hah… Should've seen this coming. I skipped advanced training entirely. No way I'd pull off Gyo unprepared. Back to square one.

GRRRAAAH! Focusing aura into one body part's impossible! This talent gap's brutal—Gon and Killua mastered Ren in half a day. It took me two months!

Gyo? They had it down overnight, Laughingstock.

When I rewatched that scene with [Original Knowledge], the envy almost made me regret creating this ability…

Finally—after a week of hell, Gyo clicked. Now, just activate [Absolute Compliance/Geass]. But before I do that… time to roll the dice on that third ability.

Que será, será. Succeed? Great. Fail? Eh, this life's still kinda fun. Probably.

Now, facing the mirror—

Gyo! Activate [Absolute Compliance/Geass]!

"ENJOY TRAINING LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT!"

...

I've reached the limit of how long I can maintain my strength, so I'm lying down in my room, catching my breath, lungs heaving, muscles screaming. This dump's as far from the mines as possible—a solo unit. No distractions for Nen training.

It's been three days since I used [Absolute Obedience/Geass].

Mornings: sprint until my legs buckle while wearing a Weighted vest. Work: Digging mineshafts with extra weights. Post-shift: Advanced Nen drills. Hit my limit? Cycle Ten and Zetsu hourly. Rest via Zetsu.

This loop? Bliss. A clarity I'd never imagined. I can't help but wonder why I didn't understand this joy until three days ago.

This was something so fun. Training your body is such a wonderful thing!

Interfering with the original work, losing your virginity, what empty goals they seem now... Oh well.

I've been reborn. From here on, every day's a training montage.

This—this is euphoria! Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!
