Hunter X Hunter: I Got Stronger After I Died

Chapter 109: How Dare You!!!

Sometimes, being overly fixated on a single strategy can be a grave mistake.

With the 30% investment from Caleb, Adam's Aura Level had surpassed 50.

Given the current battlefield conditions, he undoubtedly had the highest aura capacity among them.

Combined with his mastery of advanced Nen techniques—especially "Flow," which he had rigorously trained to complement his "Risk Investment" ability—there was no need for him to rely so heavily on a single decisive move to secure victory.

Had he adapted his strategy earlier, like Moro did when he realized Kurt wasn't strong enough to fulfill his tactical role and instead had him maximize his own combat potential, he wouldn't be in this situation.

Yet now, after being merely bluffed by Moro, he had unknowingly revealed even more about his ability.

But perhaps, this was just an unavoidable outcome of human nature.

Adam was methodical by habit, which led him to develop an ability centered around strategic planning. And now, in battle, he relied heavily on that very planning…

This closed-loop cycle was a direct result of how Nen amplified a person's innate personality traits.

It was a limitation that came with wielding Nen—an invisible framework shaping both its growth and its upper limits.

But not all people were bound by the same constraints.

Some could break free, while others never could.

It wasn't about blame or critique—it was simply the nature of humanity.

So, when the Star Mark appeared on Luke's arm after Moro's chains shattered, Adam, realizing his plan for a quick victory had failed, was forced to reconsider his strategy.

At this point, hiding his ability was pointless. Moro had already deduced much about "Risk Investment," so rather than remain defensive, his priority was now to finish activating the second condition and cash in his profits as soon as possible.

With this shift in mindset, Adam immediately sprang into action, charging straight at Moro.

Luke, meanwhile, glanced at the Star Mark on his arm, his brow furrowing slightly.

The Spider Nen Beast hovering beside him still showed no reaction—indicating that the mark wasn't an immediate, damaging attack. It was likely a conditional ability.

"A second hit on the mark increases damage? Extends the duration of the chains? Grants homing for his Nen projectiles?"

Luke's mind raced through possibilities.

"It's probably homing…"

Based on the mark's design, the way the star chains had restricted him earlier, and how Moro's previous ability worked, Luke suspected it granted some kind of "guaranteed hit" effect.

That would explain why Moro willingly put himself in danger earlier.

That ability gave him no means of counterattack—it only allowed him to evade.

Which meant…

His real goal was setting up a locked-on shot!

Luke's instincts screamed at him, but he remained calm.

It didn't matter.

His Spider Nen Beast, the "Weaver," could catch any projectile—curveballs, fastballs, it didn't matter.

With his mind clear, Luke charged forward, keeping an eye on Adam and watching for Moro's next move.

The moment Adam lunged forward, Moro raised his hand and began charging another attack.

Seeing this, Luke's eyes flashed—he had already planned a response.

He had no reason to hesitate. Even if his assumption was wrong, his Weaver would be there to intercept.

At that moment, Luke surged forward at full speed, closing in on Moro while subtly reducing the distance between himself and Adam.

Moro, facing their combined assault, quickly adjusted.

He condensed a powerful Nen sphere in his palm before launching it—

Not at them—

But backward, into the darkness.

"Trickster Star."

Whoosh!

The massive projectile shot away from the battlefield, vanishing into the night.

Moro immediately retreated, widening the gap between himself and his two attackers.

The courtyard was spacious enough to give him room to maneuver—a crucial advantage for a ranged fighter.

The battle shifted into a chase.

One side advancing, one side retreating.

And then—

Like a comet streaking through the night sky, the Trickster Star returned, faster and deadlier than before.

Adam and Luke both immediately recognized the increase in power.

Adam, determined to activate his ability's second condition, stepped into the projectile's path, intending to take the hit in Luke's place.

But—

"Middle Finger, hold your position."

Luke barked out a command, suddenly recalling his Weaver into its Nen state.

Adam hesitated.

Luke's piercing gaze momentarily shifted to Moro, their eyes meeting mid-air.

Moro instantly understood Luke's move.

His lock-on ability had been exposed.

Without hesitation, Moro shifted his stance, channeling more Nen into his free hand while reaching behind his back with the other.

Luke, now focused entirely on Adam, lunged forward, wrapping his arms around his ally's waist.

"Trust me."

Not giving Adam a chance to protest, Luke spun him around, positioning him directly in the path of the oncoming attack.

Adam was confused—wasn't his plan already to block the shot? Why did Luke intervene?

Still, there was no time to dwell on it.

As the Trickster Star closed in, Adam sharpened his focus, gathering his enhanced aura.

And then—

He noticed something.

The star wasn't moving in a straight line.

It was veering slightly…

"Wait—"

Before he could process it, Luke made a subtle adjustment to his positioning.

BOOM!

The projectile struck Adam dead-on.

A shockwave blasted through the courtyard, sending both men skidding backward over ten meters.

"What… was that?"

Adam had successfully completed the second condition for "Risk Investment."

But his mind was still on what had just happened.

"That was a lock-on."

Luke confirmed coldly.

He had suspected as much and had adjusted Adam's position to make sure the attack hit him precisely as intended.

And he was right.

Adam finally understood Luke's interference. Had Luke not controlled the positioning, the Trickster Star might have missed, allowing Moro to reposition freely.

Just then—

A military-grade grenade arced through the air, landing between Adam and Luke.

Both men snapped to attention, eyes narrowing.

BOOM!

A deafening explosion erupted, sending smoke and debris flying everywhere.

Adam and Luke braced against the shrapnel, reinforcing themselves with Nen.

As the dust settled, another glimmering green Trickster Star cut through the haze—

Heading straight for them.

For a moment, the battlefield was bathed in green light.

Then—

Silence.

Moro, standing at a distance, calmly observed as his next move played out.

The smoke cleared.

And there—

The Spider Nen Beast had returned, its third pair of legs securing the latest Trickster Star in its web.

A third set of red eyes lit up.

"One more use left… and at this stage, the Weaver can't be recalled."

Luke's expression darkened.

His ability could be toggled freely while active—allowing him to retrieve his Weaver to conserve energy.

But now, with three uses expended, it was locked in its current state.

Moro smirked.

He had forced them into a situation where Luke's Nen was being continuously drained to maintain the Weaver.

Worse—

Once the Weaver reached four uses, Luke would be forced to activate its final stage.

Luke clenched his fists.

They had to kill Moro before that happened.

"Index Finger—kill him!"

Both men charged.

Moro, backing up, was now fully aware of Adam's completed ability but had no idea what it did.

That uncertainty was his opponent's greatest advantage.

"He's more trouble than the Shadow Beasts…"

Moro thought, steadily retreating as he charged another projectile, his eyes locked on Luke.

Compared to the arrogant Shadow Beasts, Luke was level-headed, tactical, and highly adaptive.

Had he not deduced the Trickster Star's lock-on ability, Moro would still have full control of the battlefield.

But the battle wasn't over yet.

Moro fired another shot—

Adam started to intercept—

And Luke spoke.

"Don't bother. Stay on him."

Adam hesitated, then obeyed.

Luke had chosen to let the Weaver take the hit.

Which meant—

He was ready for the final stage.

The fourth strike would trigger the Weaver's endgame.

As the Trickster Star closed in—

The battlefield held its breath.
