Chapter 145: Chapter 145: Kaizen, Who Are You?
Dandins stared at Kaizen, his expression dark and brooding.
Kaizen's actions had thoroughly defied Dandins' expectations.
What is he doing?
Instead of running away, Kaizen had shut the door behind them.
Locked himself in here with me?
Could it be that this kid actually wants to fight me?
The thought was absurd, yet it was the only explanation Dandins could muster. But as soon as the possibility entered his mind, he almost laughed out loud.
Does this brat even realize who I am?
He was a senior officer in the world's largest criminal organization. A veteran Nen user. The head of the No. 2 experimental base in Orion City.
His status was unparalleled, his strength formidable, and his influence vast.
And Kaizen?
Just a teenager.
An ordinary fighter on the 200th floor of Heavens Arena. A low-ranking operative in their organization. A kid who chased after resources scavenged from the outside.
How could this child possibly think he stood a chance?
Is his brain broken? What could drive him to make such a suicidal decision?
Dandins shook his head, amused at the sheer absurdity of it all.
"Kid," he sneered, "do you really think you can take me on?"
Kaizen's reply was calm and unwavering. "Yes."
Dandins frowned. "Why?"
There was no way Kaizen had even the faintest hope of victory, so Dandins' curiosity got the better of him.
"Do you think this will prove something? Show me your strength? You're just a nobody—a child picked up by Greed. You have no idea what you're up against. Why would you choose to fight me?"
He scoffed. "If you explain yourself now, I might spare you from some of the pain you're bound to experience."
Kaizen regarded him with an impassive gaze.
"You'll find out soon enough."
With that, Kaizen launched himself at Dandins, his knife glinting faintly under the dim light of the secret room.
Dandins' eyes narrowed.
This kid really doesn't know his place.
"It seems my appearance has misled you," Dandins growled. "You think I'm just some frail old man? Let me correct that assumption."
The air around Dandins shifted dramatically. His body began to transform, muscles bulging and height increasing until he stood well over two meters tall. Gray hair darkened to jet black, and his frail, elderly form was replaced with that of a powerful, imposing middle-aged man.
Kaizen couldn't help but think of Biscuit Krueger, though the resemblance was slight.
Still, Dandins' transformation was nothing like Biscuit's.
His strength was far weaker—even weaker than some of the Shadow Beasts.
In fact, Kaizen estimated that this "true form" might put Dandins on par with one of the lower-ranking Shadow Beasts. And even they were no match for the Phantom Troupe.
Dandins flexed his fingers, his voice booming with confidence. "Come on, kid. I haven't had a proper fight in years. I'll let off some steam with you. Don't worry, though—I'll keep you alive long enough for the experiments to continue."
Kaizen said nothing, his aura suddenly surging.
The sheer force of it startled Dandins, but he quickly smirked, dismissing it as a desperate bluff.
Kaizen's knife emitted a faint, ominous glow as he slashed downward.
Dandins moved to counter, a punch aimed directly at Kaizen.
But Kaizen stopped short, swinging his knife to release a blast of black light that shot straight at Dandins.
The energy struck Dandins' chest, sticking to him like tar. Dozens of dark, egg-like shapes began forming along his body, draining his aura at an alarming rate.
"What the hell is this?!" Dandins roared, trying to tear the substance away, but his hands passed uselessly through it.
Kaizen snapped his fingers.
In an instant, a powerful explosion sent Dandins flying, his legs disintegrating before he hit the ground.
The Killer Queen shimmered into view beside Kaizen.
From the moment Dandins had entered the secret room, Kaizen had been prepared. By withdrawing aura from Altan and Raiken and focusing it through the Killer Queen, he'd set a flawless trap.
The battle was over before it had truly begun.
Dandins lay crumpled on the floor, his body wracked with pain. His disbelief was palpable.
"Kaizen..." he gasped. "Who... Who are you?"
