Chapter 270: Overlapping routes of meridians
Even though the three disciples had already begun running while he killed the gray winged woodpecker, they were still within the range of his Spatial Sight.
For some reason, they hadn't split apart even while escaping.
While running using both Shadowstep and Cloudstride, he thought.
Do they really have something wrong with their brains to not escape in different directions or do they believe they have a higher chance of escaping by staying together? Some trump card which requires all three of them?
It wasn't impossible to use two cultivation arts together.
Just like he had previously used Crimson Armor with his other cultivation arts when he was in the Qi Refining realm.
However, a doubt arises if one could use two cultivation arts of the same domain simultaneously.
Like, two different offensive cultivation arts or two different movement cultivation arts at the same time.
Previously, Eryndor used Internal Fist, and Nine Suns Palm at the same time. Now, he was using Shadowstep and Cloudstride at the same time.
So, it was certainly possible, but only because it was Eryndor.
When two different cultivation arts fell under the same domain, their route of meridians were also more or less situated in the same zone.
Their circuit of meridians overlapped to a certain extent.
Of course, not all cultivation arts which came under the same domain followed this rule, some were clearly an outlier.
Anyway, the problem with route overlap was that if you were to use both these routes simultaneously to activate two different cultivation arts under the same domain, then there was a chance that the Qi being controlled in these two circuits might crash at the overlapping area.
It would result in the cultivation art deactivating, or even blowing up before you in worse cases.
In a worst case situation, there was also a possibility of meridian damage, which meant you wouldn't be able to use that area of meridians for a small time.
It was less severe than what happened during a cultivation deviation, but a serious injury and reduction in combat prowess nonetheless.
However, Eryndor had always had a high degree of control over his Qi, and also a sufficient amount of awareness which he could divide on various tasks.
He had learned that while getting a grip over his Spatial Sight in the early days.
In those times, he would have to divide his attention between controlling his body normally and also view the entire situation from a third person view from the top of his Spatial Sight.
It wasn't as if his eyes would suddenly stop working while using his Spatial Sight, therefore he had long learned to divide his attention.
It meant that he could afford to be aware of his circulation of Qi and not crash them into each other in the overlapping sections of his route of meridians of two different cultivation arts.
Of course, overlapping Shadowstep and Cloudstride didn't mean that his movement speed would stack as well.
Shadowstep had a higher maximum movement speed, so that would've been counted in a normal situation, but since Cloudstride also had the function to make the user weightless, it helped to greatly increase his speed.
When he re-entered the range of three disciples, they revealed horrifying expressions at his speed.
They had carefully chosen their target, how could he have hidden his strength so much?
It literally happened out of nowhere!
Just yesterday or the day before yesterday they had witnessed him struggling against a six legged scaled monkey of early stage Stable realm and also get injured pretty heavily.
Due to a treasure, they had higher than normal range so they could easily spy on his battle back then.
But that was the extent of it. Some cultivators had a sixth sense which allowed them to sense dangers purely based on instinct, therefore they didn't monitor him after that.
It was just their daily routine to scout weak targets they could attack in the future. Who knew that Clarence would also take up on this luxurious mission as well? It was simply a beautiful opportunity for them.
However, it turned out to be a disaster.
Seeing that he was closing the gap at a high speed, they turned around, knowing that there was no other option left.
Eryndor narrowed his eyes, and put his guard up while slowing down slightly as he watched the three disciples turn around to face him.
Not willing to give them much time to think and strategize, Eryndor was already scanning their minds for their next move while initiating with a Void Piercer through his dagger.
He cancelled his Shadowstep, while keeping Cloudstride active to help with mobility and evasion.
They had nearly taken down a mid stage Stable realm gray winged woodpecker, which even he would struggle against, he wasn't about to underestimate them even if they were on their last legs.
Void Piercer was a great starting move as it added a degree of unpredictability with its 'skip', making it more difficult to time the block or parry.
As expected, he bypassed the defensive technique of the first disciple where conjured some type of shield, and the dagger hit his chest.
However, the anticipated damage didn't take place.
A shimmering film blocked his attack, while two of their offensive arts crashed into him.
His Sovereign's Cloak and Azure Tortoise Shell soaked up the damage, while the latter also rebounded a portion of it, hitting the second and third disciple.
However, a shimmering film didn't pop up at this time, allowing the rebounded attacks to land.
Eryndor's eyes narrowed at that.
Hmm? So the defense isn't always present but manifests based on their reaction?
They knew I was attacking therefore they prepared a defense, but the rebound function of my defensive art was an unexpected factor therefore they couldn't prepare the shield in time?
Eryndor was quickly able to figure it out.
Lowering the center of gravity of his body, he activated Nine Suns Palm and began exchanging moves with them.
It wasn't all he used though, in his left hand was a dagger through which he occasionally used Air Cleaving Slash and Void Piercer.
Over time, he noticed something unusual.
