Chapter 157 Five super senses (2)
Alina's heart softened at his shy voice. "No, sweetheart. Shadows are your magic. But your senses help you understand the world. For example—your eyes tell you when it's daytime or night, your ears let you hear when your friends are laughing, and your hands help you feel soft things like pillows or rough things like rocks."
Sable nodded slowly, understanding dawning in his eyes, and he gave the smallest smile.
"See?" Alina said warmly, standing again. "Super senses aren't about magic or powers—they're about how you discover the world. And each one of you already uses them every day."
"Even Boo??" Boo shouted hopefully.
"Yes, Boo," Alina chuckled, "even you."
"Then Boo has seven senses!!" Boo declared proudly, floating upside down again. "Because Boo also has Gossip Sense!!!"
The class exploded into laughter, and even Alina had to lean on her desk to keep from falling over.
"Everyone, don't laugh!" Alina tried to say firmly, though her lips were twitching as she watched Boo puff out his cheeks and spin around declaring himself the master of Gossip Sense. Honestly… if you stayed with Boo for even one day, boredom was impossible.
"Okay, okay, calm down!!" she said finally, clapping her hands until the giggles quieted into little hiccups of laughter.
Once the class was settled, she turned back to the board, chalk in hand. "So! The first super sense is sight. Our eyes help us to see the world." She wrote Eyes = See on the board and tapped it.
Drake's hand shot up immediately. "Teacher, then what if someone had no eyes??" he asked seriously. "My uncle lost his eyes in a battle!!"
The class gasped, all of them looking at Drake with wide, horrified eyes.
Alina's heart softened. She crouched so she was eye level with Drake, who looked truly concerned. "That's a very good question, sweetheart," she said gently. "If someone doesn't have eyes, they use their other senses even more strongly. Their ears listen better, their nose smells better, their hands feel better. The body is very smart—it helps people adapt."
"Ohhh…" Drake said, blinking slowly. Then he perked up. "So my uncle is like a superhero with super ears now??"
Alina chuckled. "Yes, you could say that."
"Cool!!!" Drake shouted, slamming his little hands on his desk. "I want super ears too!!" He immediately started wiggling his ears dramatically, making the whole class giggle again.
"Teacher, teacher!" Sable piped up, his little voice small but curious. "If ears are for listening, then what if you don't want to listen?" He ducked his head shyly. "Sometimes I don't want to listen to elders.."
The class burst into laughter again, and even Alina had to bite her lip to keep her composure. "Well… sometimes we all don't want to listen," she said, trying not to laugh. "But our ears are always working. Even when we close them with our hands, they still try to listen a little."
Boo suddenly stuffed his ghostly fingers into his ears dramatically. "Boo can't hear! Boo is free!!!" Then he floated around bumping into desks like a dizzy fly until Vlad Jr. muttered, "Pathetic," under his breath.
Alina clapped again, still chuckling. "Alright, alright! Let's keep going." She wrote on the board again. "Our ears help us hear sounds. Our nose helps us smell things. Our tongue helps us taste food. And our skin helps us feel things when we touch."
Kelpie's hand shot up shyly. "Teacher… is swimming touching?"
"Yes, sweetheart," Alina said warmly. "When you feel the water around you, that's your sense of touch."
Kelpie's eyes lit up. "So I have swimming sense!!" he announced proudly.
Alina sighed fondly. "Yes, Kelpie. If you want to call it swimming sense, you can."
Alina tapped the board again. "So our five super senses are… eyes for seeing, ears for hearing, nose for smelling, tongue for tasting, and skin for touching."
Drake raised his hand immediately, looking suspicious. "Teacher… but what if I can already taste snacks from far away? Is that a super dragon sense?"
Alina smiled patiently. "No, sweetheart, that's just your imagination."
Drake gasped, clutching his chest. "Teacher broke my dragon heart!!"
The class giggled.
Luna lifted her hand next, her little brow furrowed. "So… eyes help us see. But what if you close them and run? Then you can't see."
"Exactly," Alina said, nodding. "That's why we need to use our senses carefully. If we close one, we need the others to help us."
Lucien, quiet but thoughtful, asked, "…So if one sense is weak, the others grow stronger?"
Alina's eyes softened. "Yes, exactly, sweetheart. That's very smart."
Felix stretched his arm lazily across his desk. "Teacher, if I write too much, can I lose the sense in my hand? Because my mom will definitely eat my notebook if that happens."
Alina bit back a laugh. "No, Felix. Writing won't make you lose your sense of touch. And your mom… will not eat your notebook."
Felix muttered, "You don't know her."
The babies giggled again.
"Alright, everyone, repeat after me!" Alina said cheerfully, tapping the board.
She pointed at the first word and sang in a sing-song voice, "Eyes help us to see!"
"EYES HELP US TO SEEE!" the babies chorused loudly, their little voices bouncing off the walls.
Drake cupped his hands around his eyes like binoculars. "Teacher, my dragon eyes can seeing snacks from a hundred miles away!!"
"Impossible," Vlad Jr. muttered coolly. "He can't even see his own shoes."
"HEY!!" Drake shouted, glaring at him. "I can too!!" He bent over to check and almost fell off his chair, making Boo cackle so hard he floated upside down.
Alina clapped to get them back. "Alright, next one. Ears help us to hear!" she sang.
"EARS HELP US TO HEARRR!" the babies yelled back.
"Nose helps us to smell!" she sang.
"NOSE HELPS US TO SMELLL!" everyone echoed.
Kelpie raised his hand seriously. "Teacher, is swimming smell a thing? Because I can smell water."
Alina blinked, then chuckled. "That's still your nose, sweetheart."
Rocky leaned forward nervously. "Teacher… sometimes I smell pebbles. Is that… normal?"
Alina covered her smile. "Yes, Rocky. That's normal."
"NOOOO!!" Drake shouted dramatically. "That's his rock-sense!!"
