Chapter 39: A Journey between an Abyss and a Hollow

[Grey Pov]

I took a slow step back, gripping my weapon tighter as the air itself seemed to shatter and reform around me. The presence of the being in front of me—Shub-Niggurath, or at least a fragment of her—was enough to make the very concept of reality feel like a fragile dream.

She looked like a child but wasn't one. Her two massive horns pulsed with eldritch energy, her dress was woven from the very fabric of darkness, and her tail flicked lazily, as if mocking my fear. Her sharp-toothed smile was unnerving enough, but her eyes—twisted, goat-like eyes—held an amusement that sent shivers down my spine.

[Shub-Niggurath]: I am a fragment of the great Shub-Niggurath. Call me 'Mother,' little one.

Her voice wasn't just heard—it was felt, vibrating through my bones, my mind, my very soul. The space around me cracked and twisted with every syllable she spoke.

And then—

CRACK.

Something massive broke through space itself, shattering reality like glass. I turned, instincts screaming, as an entire planet forced its way into existence. No—not a planet. A colossal, decayed skull with continents of bone and rivers of molten darkness. Its hollow eye sockets burned with ghostly fire, and within its jaw, an endless void swallowed all light.

[Davane]: Shub-Niggurath! How dare you steal a hollow from under my nose?! I am the great, ancient, and eternal undead god, Davane!

His voice was a storm of whispers and screams, a chorus of the dead wailing in forgotten tongues. His very presence made the air taste of rot and decay.

I exhaled sharply. Great. Now I had two cosmic horrors fighting over me.

[Grey]: Oh, for the love of—can't you two eldritch nightmares take this outside?!

Shub-Niggurath giggled, tilting her head in a way that no human should be able to.

[Shub-Niggurath]: Oh, little one, you misunderstand. You are not just any hollow. You are... special.

Davane's flames flared violently.

[Davane]: That soul is mine!

The space between them fractured further, reality itself on the verge of collapse.

I sighed, tightening my grip on my weapon.

[Grey]: Guess I'm not getting a say in this, huh?

The two gods turned their gazes toward me, and in that moment, I felt like an ant standing between two titans.

[Shub-Niggurath]: No, my dear.

[Davane]: You are ours.

I blinked.

One moment, I was caught between two eldritch horrors fighting over my soul, and the next—

Santa Claus.

Dressed in red and white, with a shotgun slung over his shoulder, standing at the head of an army of elves armed with modern weapons. Their rifles gleamed under the void's eerie glow, laser sights cutting through the madness like holiday cheer gone rogue.

[Santa]: HO HO HO, Santa's here to get the good kids!

I stared. Davane and Shub-Niggurath stared. The elves cocked their guns in perfect unison.

And then—

I woke up.

I gasped for breath, my eyes snapping open as I shot upright. Darkness surrounded me, the air thick with the damp scent of stone and something old. My body ached like hell, my limbs felt heavier than usual, and something about my very existence felt… different.

I wasn't in the battlefield anymore.

I was in a cave.

The only light came from faintly glowing blue crystals embedded in the cave walls. Shadows flickered as I tried to move, my body sluggish. I looked down at myself—and froze.

I took a shaky breath.

What the hell happened to me?

The dim blue glow of the crystals cast eerie shadows across my twisted reflection. My body was no longer what it once was—purple cracks ran across my skin like fractured glass, pulsing with an otherworldly energy. Black tentacles slithered from my back, writhing as if they had minds of their own. Some of my flesh looked necrotic, tinged with an unnatural darkness that refused to fade.

I stepped closer to the crystal, peering at my own face.

One of my eyes—

A shattered clock, its hands ticking at impossible speeds, frozen yet constantly in motion. Roman numerals marked its surface, shifting as if struggling to keep up with time itself.

The other—

A black hole, an abyss that devoured all light, with blue flames licking at its edges, like some kind of cosmic fire trapped within an endless void.

And if that wasn't enough, I now had a single horn—curved, goat-like, its surface etched with markings I couldn't even begin to understand.

[Grey]: ...Okay. This is new.

I froze.

The sound of crumbling rock echoed through the cave, followed by muffled voices. Light—actual light—spilled through the cracks in the wall as someone broke through.

[???]: Hey, there's a cavern here! Looks like someone's inside!

A gust of fresh air rushed in, carrying the scent of soil and stone. Footsteps crunched against stone.
