Immune to the parasite that destroyed the world

Chapter 12: Green true form

The command room was tense as Doctor Ashita addressed the team through the comms. His voice, usually calm and measured, carried an edge of urgency.

"Listen carefully," he began, his holographic screens displaying footage of the facility overrun with infected. "Something is wrong. The number of infected here is far beyond what we anticipated. And now… we've spotted a new threat—the green parasites."

The screen zoomed in on a grotesque fusion of a wolf and human, its glowing green eyes scanning the area with terrifying intelligence.

"From what we've observed," Ashita continued, "the green parasites only affect animals. They fuse with them, creating these… abominations. But they can also fuse with humans. This is unlike anything we've seen before."

The team listened in silence, the weight of his words sinking in.

"Be careful," Ashita said finally. "We don't know what we're dealing with."

Haruto and Shina moved cautiously through the dark building, their footsteps echoing in the eerie silence. Haruto's flashlight cut through the darkness, revealing the crumbling walls and scattered debris.

"You shouldn't be here," Haruto said, his voice low. "You're not immune to the parasites. If anything happens…"

Shina cut him off, her tone firm. "I'm not just going to sit back and watch you die, Haruto. You're not the only one who can fight."

Haruto glanced at her, his expression a mix of frustration and gratitude. "I just… I don't want you to get hurt."

Shina's gaze softened. "I know. But we're in this together, remember?"

Before Haruto could respond, the sound of metal clashing against concrete echoed through the corridor.

"That's Namra's weapon," Haruto said, his heart racing. "Come on!"

They found Namra in a large, open room, her laser sword humming as she fought off a swarm of infected. She was injured, her movements slower than usual, but her determination never wavered.

"Namra!" Haruto shouted, raising his rifle and firing at the parasites.

Shina joined in, her pistol shots precise and deadly. The infected creatures lunged at Namra, their grotesque forms twitching unnaturally. With a swift movement, she sliced through one, but another leaped onto her back. She let out a grunt, twisting to throw it off, but it latched on with its clawed fingers.

"Get it off me!" she hissed through gritted teeth.

Haruto rushed forward, slamming his rifle butt into the creature's skull. It screeched and released Namra, only to be met with a close-range shotgun blast from Shina. The infected collapsed in a heap, its green blood sizzling against the floor.

Together, they cleared a path to Namra, who collapsed against a wall, breathing heavily.

"Took you long enough," Namra muttered, her voice strained.

"We're here now," Haruto said, helping her to her feet. "Let's get out of—"

The sound of growls cut him off. More infected poured into the room, their glowing eyes locked on the trio.

"We're not going anywhere," Shina said, reloading her pistol.

Sakura sprinted through the facility, her pistol in hand. Doctor Ashita's voice crackled over her comms.

"Sakura, Haruto's in trouble. He needs backup."

"On it," Sakura replied, her tone sharp.

Meanwhile, Jin was already on the move, his fists clenched as he raced to help Makami.

"Makami, hold on!" Jin shouted into his comms. "I'm coming!"

Makami backed into a corner, his shotgun raised as the green-infected wolves closed in. Their grotesque forms—a fusion of wolf and human—were horrifying, their glowing green eyes filled with malice.

"Back off!" Makami shouted, firing a burst of shots.

The wolves dodged with unnatural speed, their movements coordinated and relentless. One lunged at him, its jaws snapping inches from his face. He barely ducked in time, rolling across the floor and blasting another wolf mid-air. It crashed into the wall, twitching violently before going still.

Another wolf snarled and leaped from the shadows, its elongated claws aiming for his throat. Makami swung his shotgun like a club, knocking it aside before unloading two rounds into its head. The creature let out a horrifying gurgle before collapsing.

"Jin, where the hell are you?" Makami muttered, reloading his weapon, sweat dripping down his face.

Just then, Jin burst into the room, katana gleaming as he sliced through an infected wolf with a single, brutal strike.

"Sorry I'm late," Jin said, smirking. "You looked like you had it under control."

Makami exhaled sharply. "Yeah, sure. Now help me finish these bastards off!"

Jin grinned, launching himself into the fray with devastating force.

Back in the room with Haruto, Shina, and Namra, the infected suddenly stopped moving. Their heads tilted unnaturally, and a low, guttural sound filled the air.

"What's happening?" Haruto asked, his voice trembling.

Before anyone could answer, the infected let out a deafening scream. Their bodies convulsed, and the blue and purple slime covering them began to spray outward like water from a hose.

"Get down!" Namra shouted, pulling Haruto and Shina to the ground.

The slime splashed against the walls and floor, sizzling like acid. Haruto wiped the gooey substance from his face, his heart pounding.

"What the hell is going on?" he muttered.

Namra's eyes widened as she looked at Shina. "Haruto… look."

Haruto turned, his breath catching in his throat.

Shina's eyes were white, her face covered in glowing blue veins.
