Chapter 299

Morin knew that Kurapika most likely went back to his room to release his emotions and then pray for his deceased comrades in the Kurta language.

Learning the truth of the situation, Kurapika would probably need some time to recover emotionally.

When Morin also stepped outside, he saw Kurapika's other colleagues waiting by the door.

"Kurapika, he..."

Melody hesitated, wanting to say more. When Kurapika had just walked out, his emotions, demeanor, and heartbeat were all off.

As the caring older sister figure, Melody was quite concerned about Kurapika and wanted to know what Morin and Kurapika had discussed.

"He's fine, you don't need to worry about him," Morin replied casually.

Kurapika had a strong ability to self-regulate. It wouldn't be surprising if he recovered by the end of the night, or even sooner.

Morin glanced around at the colleagues who had gathered, showing their concern for Kurapika.

There was Squala, who in the original story had raised a flag and was tragically beheaded by Nobunaga. He kept dogs and had a thing with Neon's maid.

Although he was a Nen user, he seemed to be at the lowest tier of them. It was questionable whether Squala would even pass the Hunter Exam.

Then there was Linssen, an old guard of the Nostrade family with little presence but obedient and reliable. After Kurapika became the head of the Nostrade family, he entrusted tasks to Linssen.

Melody, of course, needed no further introduction; everyone knew her story.

Baise was another familiar name. Basho, with his muscular appearance and straightforward personality, was notably righteous.

He later got hired by Kurapika to participate in Prince Kakin's recruitment and followed the Seventh Prince Luzurus.

They shared a common interest in detoxification, discussing enthusiastically how to quit drug addiction, without even considering the power struggle for the throne.

These bodyguards of the Nostrade family, despite being employed by a mafia family and involved in the underworld, all had surprisingly upright characters. It was quite peculiar.

Except for Baise, Morin didn't greet the others. Mainly because the others, out of fear or caution, didn't want to interact with Morin.

Thus, under the complex gazes of several people, Morin wrapped an arm around Baise and returned to his room.

The night was peaceful and uneventful.

The next morning, when Morin emerged from his room feeling refreshed, he saw Kurapika organizing the current tasks for everyone.

Judging by his demeanor, Kurapika seemed to have recovered and was ready to work normally.

Seeing Morin come out of the room, Kurapika had just finished assigning the last set of tasks. He nodded slightly at Morin.

"Our boss has woken up. I plan to temporarily keep the news about the cemetery building incident from her," Kurapika approached Morin and said, "Although the boss wasn't physically harmed, her Nen ability was likely stolen by your troupe's leader.

"And if I'm not mistaken," Kurapika said softly, looking at Morin, "the events at the cemetery building involving our boss's father and Captain Dalzollene are probably related to your Phantom Troupe, right?"

"Remove the 'probably,'" Morin chuckled, "It was indeed our doing. To be precise, it was my doing."

"So, what are you planning to do?" Morin asked.

"Nothing," Kurapika replied calmly. "I just wanted to understand the truth to prepare for the next steps."

"Honestly, whether it was you or another member of the troupe responsible for the cemetery hotel incident, I don't feel anything."

"Even if your boss's father is no longer in this world and your boss ends up living alone, possibly being swallowed by other mafia families?" Morin smiled.

"With me here, that won't happen," Kurapika said confidently, showing his self-assurance.

"I was mentally prepared for this before applying to the mafia family," Kurapika continued. "Having chosen this path, I won't regret any outcome."

"I've even considered dying in gang warfare, being hunted, or in family conflicts," Kurapika calmly stated.

"In my view, as a mafia member, the ultimate outcome is nothing but this path."

"Our boss's father, Mr. Nostrade, and Captain Dalzollene's endings weren't surprising to me; it just accelerated the inevitable."

"And," Kurapika looked deeply at Morin, "if I'm not mistaken, the Ten Dons have also fallen at your hands, haven't they?"

---

"That's indeed the case," Morin admitted without hesitation. Although it was Illumi who killed the Ten Dons, he was hired by Chrollo. From the source, the Ten Dons did indeed fall by the hands of the Phantom Troupe.

"If even the Ten Dons are dead, then it's not so hard to understand why my boss's father and the others have also left this world," Kurapika continued.

"This is the ultimate fate of the mafia. No matter who kills them, I have no complaints."

"You seem to have come to terms with it," Morin smiled. "But how will you explain it to your boss?"

"I'll tell her that Mr. Nostrade went on a long business trip, slowly dragging it out while subtly influencing her with TV dramas, movies, or novels and comics about such matters," Kurapika explained.

"As she grows older, she'll gradually come to understand. By then, she should be able to accept it."

"Boiling a frog in warm water, you're quite something," Morin gave him a thumbs up.

"It's the only way," Kurapika said, shaking his head slowly. Then, as if remembering something, he asked, "Have Gon and the others contacted you recently, Morin?"

"No, ever since I gave them some tools to raise money, I haven't heard from them. I guess they're somewhere figuring out how to spend it to achieve their goals," Morin replied.

"Is that so?" Kurapika's face lit up with a rare smile. "I've recently finished some of my tasks and plan to meet up with Gon and Leorio to catch up. It's been a long time since I've been with them."

Indeed, from parting with Killua at Kukuroo Mountain to now, it had been less than four months. But given Kurapika's tumultuous life and experiences in the mafia, it felt like a long time to him.

"Would you like to join us, Morin?" Kurapika invited.

"No, I think I'll pass. In the coming days, I plan to spend some quality time with Baise," Morin said, a hint of affection flashing in his eyes.

"After the Southern Peace Auction, I'll have other things to attend to, so I might not have much time then."

"I see..." Kurapika didn't press further upon hearing this.

The two chatted briefly before Morin took Baise out for a stroll. It had been a while since they had the chance to enjoy themselves freely.

Of course, during their outing, Morin made sure to use tools to keep Machi and Pakunoda at bay.

Otherwise, if they ran into each other on the streets, it would be more than just a dramatic scene—it would be a total disaster.

The Southern Peace Auction was set to start from September 6th to September 10th. Before that, there were still a few days left, enough time for Morin and Baise to enjoy themselves.

As the days passed, the city of Yorknew grew busier and more vibrant with the auction approaching.

During this time, Feitan quietly stayed in the base, engrossed in reading. Phinks, bored out of his mind, came out to see if Morin had any fun activities, only to be sent off with a couple of random tools.

Meanwhile, Machi and Pakunoda indulged in extensive shopping sprees at various malls.

Their funding source? All thanks to Morin's "Forced ATM" given to Machi. Once she started using it, Machi realized it was a godsend for her!

No matter who she faced, she could effortlessly extract money from them. This bug-level tool was so valuable to Machi that she kept it close at all times.

If her Nen ability hadn't already developed into threads, she might have developed a space-type Nen ability just to store things.

During these days, the two of them didn't just have fun but also felt completely at ease. After all, there's no woman who doesn't love shopping.

On the other side, after receiving the "Future Checkbook," Gon and the others did some experimenting. Gon withdrew ten million Jenny to buy chocolate beans for Killua.

Then they participated in an underground arena Leorio found, earning fifty million Jenny through matches. As expected, they only ended up with forty million Jenny.

Afterward, Gon used the "Future Checkbook" to buy Killua a limited edition skateboard and various yo-yos.

He bought Leorio a luxury suit, an expensive branded watch, and a top-tier briefcase.

He even got a complete set of medical supplies delivered to Leorio's dorm at medical university.
