Chapter 13: Chapter 13

Amenadiel tapped Lucifer's shoulder and nodded his head to the side, silently asking to speak with his brother in private. Their friends took the hint and gave the brothers a moment as they scattered across the penthouse, finding something to occupy themselves.

"Don't you think we should handle this on our own, Luci?" Amenadiel asked once they had some privacy, "I'm glad Maze is going to watch Trixie, don't get me wrong, but don't you think we should leave the rest of them out of this? They are only human."

"Good luck convincing the Detective to stay out of this," Lucifer shook his head, "We were all set on tackling this together before you arrived anyway."

"I was coming back to Los Angeles anyhow, Lucifer," Amenadiel told him, "Even if this situation with the coin wasn't going on."

"You were going to willingly leave the Silver City?" Lucifer raised a disbelieving brow.

"Yes… I wanted to," Amenadiel admitted, "I'm a big enough Angel to admit that my time on Earth has changed me."

"And yet you're still advocating that Divinity and Humanity shouldn't mix," Lucifer countered.

Before Amenadiel could object, Lucifer continued, "There's no deterring them, Brother. In spite of all they've been through, they all seem more determined than ever to stick with me… baffling as that is."

"Very well," Amenadiel conceded that point. All it took was one look around the penthouse. Trixie was studying the book at Lucifer's desk, intent on doing all she could to help in whatever capacity she could. Chloe, Dan, and Ella were not so subtly standing off by Lucifer's piano and bar, trying and failing to look like they weren't trying to listen in on their conversation.

Ella seemed to be studying her reflection in the reflective surface of Lucifer's piano while wiping away a non-existent spot on its shiny surface with her sleeve. Dan looked to be perusing Lucifer's wall of scotch but was mostly turned toward the two brothers. Chloe stood on the other side of the bar, not so subtly watching Amenadiel and Lucifer while attempting to make it look like she was watching Dan.

Humans were something else… especially these special humans that had somehow become their found family.

"Find anything that can help us, Trixie?" Amenadiel raised his voice and headed over to the young girl. The two detectives and forensic scientist picked up on the hint and joined the two Angels who had found their way back over by Trixie.

"Not yet," Trixie shook her head and then looked to Lucifer, "This isn't the same coin that you had before, is it, Lucifer?"

"What coin did Lucifer have before?" Chloe wasn't following.

"The coin that he had when that other bad guy kidnapped me and took me to the airplane hangar a couple years ago," Trixie explained.

"You saw that?" Lucifer asked at the same time Ella commented, "How many times has this kid been kidnapped?"

Trixie was a lot more observant than Lucifer ever gave her credit. Not only had she known he was the Devil all this time, but she had been at least somewhat aware of some Celestial goings-on without him realizing she knew.

"You mean with Malcolm?" Chloe asked for clarification.

Trixie nodded, "Yeah, I saw Lucifer with some kind of coin when he was talking to Detective Malcolm in the hangar before you shot him."

Chloe cringed at that. All this time she thought Trixie hadn't seen anything from her hiding spot in the hangar years ago and had remained innocent to all that had happened. Apparently she was wrong. Her little girl was a lot stronger and was aware of way more than she thought. Maybe she should try to get some therapists names from Linda or perhaps even have Trixie start to see Linda professionally.

"This coin looks like it's the same size as the one you had before," Trixie tapped the page in front of her.

"My Pentecostal coin disappeared that night," Lucifer shook his head. He left it at that. He thought it best to not go into too much detail about how and why his Pentecostal coin disintegrated in the air from Malcolm's grasp that night.

"Didn't one of the demons talk about Malcolm?" Trixie tilted her head, "Back when we were in that storage unit. I thought I heard him mention him."

Chloe, Dan, and Ella all simultaneously slowly turned their heads in Lucifer's direction at that new piece of information. That would've been good to know before. Chloe folded her arms and gave Lucifer a look that clearly stated: "Start explaining."

"When Dromos and Squee paid us a visit, they made mention of Malcolm," Lucifer clarified, "Their coming to Earth and trying to get me to go back to Hell was partially his idea."

"Still a pain in the ass from beyond the grave," Dan muttered with a shake of his head.

Lucifer looked to his brother, "Is there anything else we should be made aware of about this coin and what it can do to me? We already know it can force my Devil Face to the surface and leave it there for a length of time."

"I didn't even think it was real," Amenadiel shook his head, "All I had heard were whispers. Honestly, I'm surprised that book has any information on it."

Amenadiel nodded to the book still sitting in front of Trixie.

"That book seems to be full of information about all sorts of Celestial items… some real, some not… It was written by humans. It's mostly just guess work."

"That's extremely unhelpful," Lucifer returned, "So whatever information that's in that book about this coin, it might not even be accurate?"

Amenadiel nodded apologetically and Lucifer rolled his eyes in frustration.

"While you were calling Maze, Dan found out that we could use the coin as a lo-jack to find Kinley," Ella sounded hopeful, "With any luck that could be accurate."

"I don't particularly fancy playing trial and error with the thing, Miss Lopez," Lucifer replied, "The last thing we need is for something to go wrong and I end up a puppet… I had enough of that before my Fall."

"What about Michael?" Chloe looked to both brothers, "If the coin affected him all the way in Heaven, maybe he'd be inclined to help us?"

"NO," Lucifer and Amenadiel replied harshly barely before Chloe even finished her suggestion.

In a little gentler tone, Lucifer elaborated, "Trust me, Detective. No good would come of Michael coming down to Earth for any reason. Our relationship is contentious at best. He wouldn't want to help."

"How do you know if you don't ask?" Trixie asked, "The coin's affecting him too."

Lucifer sighed. The Urchin was making too much sense. She needed to stop that.

"If needs must, we'll ask him," Lucifer conceded as he slowly made his way closer to the young girl at his desk, "But hopefully it won't come to it. We can leave him as our last resort, Urchin."

"So how do we use the coin as a lo-jack?" Ella thought it best to get them back on task, "What's the book say, Trix?"

"Um, it really doesn't say too much about it," Trixie replied, "It looks like there's some sort of spell or something we'd have to do to make the coin into a tracker."

"I am not contacting Johnny. I already repaid my debt to him for Maze," Lucifer mumbled.

"A spell? Can we even do that?" Dan came up on Trixie's other side and leant on the desk with his palms flat and cocked his head to look at the book more closely, "I didn't see it say anything about having to do a spell."

"It says it right here, Dad," Trixie pointed it out.

"We're perfectly capable of casting a spell without your warlock, Luci," Amenadiel apparently heard his mumbling, "But once we do know this Kinley's location, shouldn't we have some sort of plan in place for when we go after him?"

"Amenadiel is right," Chloe agreed, "We need to have some kind of game plan. We can't just make it up on the fly – especially with the coin as a wild card. We don't know what else it could do to Lucifer."

"Hopefully Kinley doesn't know either," Amenadiel concurred, "If the most he can do is bring your Devil Face to the surface, he won't be much of a threat."

"Don't forget he has Hell's Twiddle-Dee and Twiddle-Dum at his beck and call," Lucifer reminded him. At Amenadiel's confused look, Lucifer clarified, "Dromos and Squee… once we take care of the Father, we'll still have them to deal with."

"I thought you had banned possession," Amenadiel returned.

"I did… Hence my frustration and ire," Lucifer said.

"Why did Kinley even force your other face out anyway?" Dan asked, "What was the point of it? To try and scare us?"

"My other face is scary enough on its own," Lucifer countered, "No. I think he only did that to try to turn you all against me… Show you all my "true colors," remember?"

"That wasn't gonna happen," Trixie said, "He shoulda checked out the text on the coin."

"I didn't see any text on the coin," Ella furrowed her brow.

"In Lucifer we trust," Trixie smirked as she looked up at said Devil.

Lucifer huffed. She was getting rather good at puns, "Well played, Urchin."

"I hate to say it, but if Kinley's whole aim was to try to get us to turn against Lucifer and that failed obvi, that would always fail. That means we've got an even bigger problem," Ella started.

Taking everyone's questioning gaze as a response, she continued, "What's he gonna try to do next?"

The glowing red dot disappeared from under her thumb as Maze ended her call with Lucifer. How did he find himself in these situations? She had just finished her last bounty. He wasn't too much of a challenge – why did guys think that gigantic flamethrowers were scary? Apparently while she was out on her bounty, Lucifer found himself kidnapped (again). It was seriously becoming a pattern with him lately. She had kept her word and was on the lookout for any of her siblings while she was out on her bounty, but that was apparently unnecessary because her siblings were in cahoots with Lucifer's kidnapper – a freaking priest.

But that wasn't the breaking news.

Decker found out Lucifer was really the Devil.

He didn't sound (too) whiny on the phone so she and Lucifer must've been still on speaking terms. That was a good sign. And Lucifer had mentioned that Decker was with him in his penthouse along with Trixie, Dan, and Ellen. Amenadiel had even made an appearance. If Decker had agreed to her joining the team in the Priest takedown – that meant that Decker's mind hadn't completely melted – especially since she was agreeing for her daughter to still be in proximity to a demon.

Maze quickened her pace as Lux came into view. Lucifer was lucky she was in the neighborhood. She could tell Lucifer was holding back some vital information on the phone call, but she'd figure it out eventually. She made her way through the empty club toward the elevator. Lux looked so different outside active hours with the majority of the chairs upside down on the tables and all the lights on. She nodded at Patrick who was wiping down the bar as she got into the elevator and headed up to her friends.

The elevator pinged and the doors opened. Maze stepped off and abruptly stopped in her tracks as all eyes had locked on to her entrance.

"What?" Maze looked at everybody.

"Maze? How'd you get here so fast? Lucifer just hung up with you only a few minutes ago," Chloe gestured to Lucifer with her thumb.

"I just finished my bounty and was nearby," Maze answered with a shrug as her gaze landed on Trixie. She actually looked disappointed to see her. Strange. For Lucifer's sake, he better not had been talking trash about her to Trixie behind her back.

"Trix, you okay?" Maze asked as Trixie got up from behind Lucifer's desk.

"Yeah," Trixie sighed, "I just thought I had a little more time to help."

"You'll be in good hands with Linda while we take down the bad guy," Maze assured her.

"You're not watching me?" Trixie was confused.

"You said this crazy priest needed hunting down," Maze looked to Lucifer, "I thought you said Trixie was going to stay with Linda while I tracked this guy down."

"Letting Maze track him down might be simpler than chancing anything with the coin," Dan said.

"You misunderstood me, Maze," Lucifer replied, "I said that if you wanted to watch the child with Dr. Linda, you could while we tracked down the priest."

"Oh… I heard the part about tracking down some evil priest scumbag and stopped listening," Maze admitted. She looked at Dan as his words finally registered.

"Wait… what coin?"

"You didn't tell her about the coin?" Chloe turned to Lucifer.

"I knew you were holding something back," Maze felt vindicated and did a little mental fist-pump. Lucifer really should know by now that whenever he holds information back from her, she'll find out sooner or later. She looked to Chloe, "So what's up with this coin?"

Amenadiel answered instead.

"A priest got his hands on a Celestial coin that has the capacity to affect Lucifer… and Michael. He brought Lucifer's Devil Face to the surface and Lucifer wasn't able to shift out of it for quite a few hours."

"That's how Decker found out," Maze nodded in understanding as she subtly darted her eyes to Chloe, "Good on you for not taking off to the Vatican or something."

"Did you tell Maze anything when you called her?" Ella remarked.

"I told her what she needed to know," Lucifer defended himself, "I thought it imperative we track down Kinley sooner rather than later. And the Urchin needed looking after."

"Speaking of," Dan stepped around Lucifer's desk, "Come on, Monkey. I'll take you to stay with Linda while everyone else comes up with a plan. I'll call her on the way."

"Okay," Trixie begrudgingly agreed and started to head toward the elevator with her dad. She looked to Maze, "But you'll tell me everything afterward?"

"Every gory detail," Maze replied with her trademark predatory smile. Maze and Trixie fist-bumped as Trixie passed by her with Dan on their way to the elevator.

Dan pressed the elevator's call button on the side panel. Trixie then looked back at Lucifer, "You promise you'll be careful, Lucifer?"

"I'll do my best," Lucifer returned a small, reassuring smile to the girl.

The elevator doors slid open, but just as Dan stepped forward to get in, Trixie ran back over to Lucifer and enveloped him in a fierce hug.

"I love you, Lucifer."

Lucifer simply looked down at the young girl in stunned silence. His right hand hovered over the top of her head. Just as quickly as she had hugged him, she ran back to her father and joined him in the elevator. The doors closed on them as Dan gave everyone a small wave.

Maze turned back from watching the elevator doors close and looked to the remaining occupants in the room, "So… who wants to give me the rundown on this priest so I can track him down?"

Lucifer still stood in the same position from Trixie's quick departure from her hug. His hand was still raised right above where Trixie's head was. The child loved him?

Chloe smiled at Lucifer's stunned expression, but quickly turned her attention to Maze and answered the demon, "We were in the middle of one of our murder investigations of someone we later found out to be a Satanist. Father Kinley killed him. He even confessed to it when he kidnapped us… Lucifer told you about the kidnapping, right?"

Maze answered with a curt nod.

"Before we could make our escape, Kinley got away. I put a BOLO out on him, but since this investigation seems to have some supernatural elements factored into it, like that coin, it might be more beneficial to get you to find him," Chloe finished.

"I got that. I meant more of a rundown on the priest as in details about him so I can hunt him down easier," Maze clarified, "You said he had some Celestial coin that can control Lucifer? How did he even get his hands on something like that in the first place?"

Ella folded her arms, "How did Kinley get that coin from my lab? It was bagged as evidence."

"He must've snuck his way into the station somehow and stole it," Chloe theorized.

"You know for a police station, your security totally sucks," Maze commented, "Speaking of… I'll just get what I need from there."

With her usual impatience, Maze immediately turned on her heel and headed for the elevator to do just that.

"Whoa, hold on! I'll come with you," Ella quickly ran over to the demon, "We should probably try to keep things as by the book as we can."

"Whatever, Ellen," Maze stepped into Lucifer's elevator.

"It's Ella," Ella corrected her again and quickly yelled out to Chloe as the doors were closing, "I'll call you with any updates we find, Chloe!"

"Well, it looks like we've got some kind of a plan in motion," Amenadiel said and looked to Chloe, "Until we iron out the details, I think I'll join Dan and Trixie at Linda's. Lucifer told me I needed to talk with her about something anyway."

"Oh, okay," Chloe wasn't expecting that.

He also headed for the elevator and looked down at his Heavenly robes, "But maybe I should change first."

With that, Amenadiel turned back around and headed for Lucifer's closet. He should still have some of his spare clothes here somewhere.

"This place cleared out pretty quickly, huh?" Chloe commented as soon as Amenadiel was out of sight.

Lucifer blinked rapidly as he finally put his hand down to his side. He looked to Chloe and then back up at the empty room.

"Where'd everyone go?"
