Chapter 28: Aftermath & The Scapegoat

The dust settled, literally. Washington D.C. was a scene of controlled chaos, fire engines blaring, emergency services scrambling. The three Project Insight Helicarriers lay in various states of ruin, one partially submerged in the Potomac, another a smoking crater in the Triskelion's plaza, and the third surprisingly intact but grounded near the monument, courtesy of Wanda and Pietro's precise disruption. Millions of lives had been saved.

News channels, initially stunned, were now in a frenzy. Darcy's data leak had been an absolute, unmitigated success. The financial ledgers, the Hydra operative lists, the true purpose of Project Insight – it was all out there. The world was reeling from the revelation that SHIELD, the very organization designed to protect them, had been a Hydra-infested viper's nest for decades.

Adam initiated the Guild debrief, his members' avatars appearing on the screen, looking exhausted but triumphant.

"Report in, everyone," Adam said, a quiet sense of satisfaction in his voice.

"Helicarrier Three successfully grounded, Adam," Wanda reported, her voice tired but firm. "We managed to guide it to a less populated area. Minor collateral, mostly structural damage."

Pietro chimed in, "Yeah, turns out super-speed and hexes are pretty good at breaking giant flying death machines!"

"Command center secured, targets incapacitated," Yelena stated concisely. "All relevant data uploaded to Darcy. Clean as a whistle."

"Clean as a whistle that just shattered the global intelligence community!" Darcy cackled, rubbing her hands together. "My servers are still smoking! Every single Hydra agent on that list is now public. Their bank accounts frozen. Their shell corporations collapsed. They are screwed."

Jeremy, still embedded, gave a grim report. "Total chaos within what's left of SHIELD. Fury officially disbanded it. Publicly, he's 'dead.' But he's using the chaos to go completely off-grid. They're already launching a witch hunt for Hydra remnants. It's… intense, Adam. Very intense."

"And the Mind Stone energy readings from the Helicarriers have ceased," Erik Selvig added, a scientific curiosity overriding his fatigue. "The core power sources have dispersed. But… there's something else. An echo. A faint, persistent signature that implies the true source of that energy wasn't in the Helicarriers, but merely channeled through them. A much stronger, singular source… somewhere else."

Adam nodded, the confirmation of the "true" Mind Stone ringing in his meta-aware brain. That was Loki's Scepter, still with Strucker.

"Excellent work, everyone," Adam said, his voice full of genuine pride. "This was massive. You saved millions. Hydra is exposed. SHIELD is dead. And we remain in the shadows."

He looked at the loyalty metrics for each member, which had spiked significantly.

"Loyalty points across the board are excellent," Adam noted. "You earned every single one. Take some time to rest. You deserve it. But our work isn't over. Not by a long shot. Hydra will rebuild. And Erik just gave us our next lead."

The world outside would attribute the Helicarrier crash to Captain America's brave actions, and the Hydra exposure to Fury's cunning or a dedicated whistleblower. Adam's Guild, the true silent saviors, would remain a whisper, a shadow. And that was exactly how he wanted it.
