Chapter 101: Chapter 101: The Cowardly One-Tail
"Heh—"
With a cold chuckle, Ryo flicked his arm. The sand that had been flying toward him suddenly stopped in midair.
Then, with a casual squeeze of his right hand, the suspended sand mass exploded, instantly reforming into a sword that hovered, pointed at Gaara and his siblings.
"Impossible!"
Kankuro let out a shocked scream, his face full of disbelief.
Temari, though silent, had an equally stunned expression.
Even Gaara, who had just been manipulating the sand, had his pupils widen in astonishment.
For the first time in his life, the sand nourished by his chakra had completely escaped his control. Not only that, but it was now being turned against him.
Ryo watched their reactions with a hint of disdain.
Trying to use telekinetic control in front of him? Did they really think his psychic power was just for show?
With a simple raise of his left hand, his psychic energy surged outward.
Gaara's body tensed up instantly, as if an invisible force had grabbed him.
"Argh!"
Gaara let out a furious roar, struggling desperately, but it was useless.
Temari and Kankuro's expressions changed drastically.
"Boss, he really didn't mean it! Please, let him go!"
Kankuro, who had been arrogant just moments ago, now pleaded alongside Temari.
They had seen Ryo's strength firsthand. Acting tough now would just be foolish.
Hearing their pleas, Ryo scoffed and flicked his right hand.
The sword made of sand shattered and returned to Gaara's gourd.
With another casual motion of his left hand, Gaara was sent flying into the backyard.
"You don't have to worry. I won't kill him. Dragonite, Gardevoir, give him a proper lesson."
Hearing this, Temari and Kankuro sighed in relief, but they still hurried toward the backyard.
Ryo may have said he wouldn't kill Gaara, but they needed to see it with their own eyes to feel at ease.
"Ryo, when you say 'lesson,' do you mean Dragonite and Gardevoir will fight him?"
Cynthia asked, raising an eyebrow.
Those two Pokémon were stronger than Ryo himself.
Was this really just a lesson?
Ryo rolled his eyes. "Don't overthink it. Gaara isn't weak. I just want to see if something else will come out."
Without explaining further, he turned and followed them into the backyard.
"Come out? What do you mean?"
"Ryo, wait for me! What are you talking about?"
…
In the backyard, Dragonite and Gardevoir looked at the disoriented Gaara with slight confusion.
They had a feeling they understood what Ryo wanted, but they still approached Gaara cautiously.
After all, they had their orders.
Gaara, now on his feet, had eyes filled with rage and killing intent.
"Murder… kill them all!"
A dark, violent chakra burst out from within him, and his bloodlust grew even more intense.
Temari and Kankuro ran in just in time to see this, their faces going pale.
"This is bad! He's losing control again!"
"Oh no, we're all going to die!"
Kankuro muttered bitterly.
"Just relax and watch. I want to see what the power of a Tailed Beast really looks like."
Ryo's voice rang out from behind them.
Temari glanced at him and, though she didn't know why, felt a sense of security.
Kankuro, however, turned angrily to Ryo. "What do you know?! We're all about to be slaughtered!"
Ryo met his gaze, making Kankuro flinch and avert his eyes.
He had almost forgotten—Ryo wasn't someone to mess with.
Just moments ago, he had effortlessly overpowered Gaara.
Ryo didn't bother arguing with Kankuro.
"Relax. Just watch."
He doubted that a mere Kage-level opponent could stand against Dragonite and Gardevoir.
Cynthia, however, was still puzzled.
She understood every word they were saying, but none of it made sense together.
Dragonite and Gardevoir, meanwhile, were focused entirely on Gaara.
"Roar—"
Dragonite stepped forward, unleashing an intimidating aura and letting out a furious roar.
Gardevoir followed suit, its own presence expanding outward.
Gaara's body stiffened as the chakra surrounding him suddenly froze—then, in the next moment, it quickly retracted.
Everyone was stunned.
Temari and Kankuro stared in disbelief.
What just happened?!
The monstrous entity inside Gaara—the thing that had terrorized them for years—seemed afraid.
It was actually shrinking back, refusing to emerge.
Ryo watched, his lips twitching in exasperation.
Seriously? Is the One-Tail really this much of a coward?
It only took sensing Dragonite and Gardevoir's aura for it to back off?
Seriously? Ryo had been looking forward to seeing just how powerful a Tailed Beast really was.
"Pathetic!"
His frustration flared as he shot Gaara a glare filled with disdain.
Hearing this, Temari and Kankuro turned to Ryo in shock.
It was as if their entire worldview had flipped upside down.
Was this guy actually disappointed that Shukaku refused to show itself?
They were at a loss for words.
Dragonite and Gardevoir, meanwhile, stared at Gaara, confused.
Just moments ago, they had felt an intense surge of malice from him, but now, it had vanished entirely—like it had never existed in the first place.
They exchanged puzzled glances before looking toward Ryo.
"Ahem—"
Ryo noticed their questioning stares and coughed awkwardly. "Forget it. Just go back to what you were doing."
What else could he do? If Shukaku was too much of a coward to come out, he couldn't exactly force it.
Judging by its reaction, the only way to drag it out would be to kill Gaara—and that obviously wasn't an option.
"Ryo, what are you all even talking about?"
Cynthia asked, still completely lost.
Even now, she had no idea what was going on.
Ryo shook his head slightly. "I'll explain later."
Then, he turned toward Temari and Kankuro. "Well? What are you waiting for? Do I need to wake him up myself?"
"Oh! Right!"
The two siblings quickly rushed over to Gaara, moving with noticeable caution.
How could they not?
Even their brother's inner demon was terrified of this man.
