Chapter 100: Chapter 100: The Arrogant Guest
Inside the Hokage's office.
Hiruzen Sarutobi frowned as he looked at Jiraiya across from him. "So, this is the Pokémon you captured? And it's already causing chaos in Konoha?"
"Haha…"
Jiraiya let out an awkward laugh. "Come on, old man, I'm still training it. Don't worry, it won't happen again."
Hiruzen shot him a glare before turning his gaze toward the Deino Jiraiya was holding.
Grrr!
Noticing Hiruzen's stare, Deino let out a growl and glared right back.
Its eyes seemed to say: What are you looking at? Keep staring, and I'll break your legs.
Hiruzen's mouth twitched involuntarily. "Jiraiya, you'd better keep this thing under control."
He was speechless. He had never seen such a brazen Pokémon before.
"Old man, I think Deino doesn't like you very much. It's not like this with other people," Jiraiya said, puzzled.
When it saw others, it looked excited. But the moment it laid eyes on Hiruzen, it immediately acted hostile.
Hiruzen's lips twitched again.
What the hell does that mean?
Am I just not liked by Pokémon?!
Shaking his head, he didn't dwell on it and instead turned serious. "Jiraiya, Orochimaru seems to have returned."
"Hmm?"
Jiraiya's expression shifted. "He's back? Where is he?"
Hiruzen shook his head. "I'm not sure, but reliable intelligence suggests that he is somewhere in Konoha right now."
"In Konoha? No way, I need to find him."
Jiraiya immediately turned to leave.
But before he could step outside, Hiruzen spoke again. "Wait. We don't know why he's here yet. If he wants to hide, we won't find him easily."
Jiraiya frowned. That was true.
If Orochimaru wanted to stay hidden, no one could find him.
Even if he was right under their noses in Konoha, it wouldn't matter.
"For now, just stay put for a few days. Whatever Orochimaru's reason for being here, it's not simple. Something will happen soon."
Jiraiya nodded. "Alright, I'll stay put for now. But old man, can I borrow some money? I used up most of mine capturing Deino."
Hiruzen was momentarily speechless.
One of the Legendary Sannin… borrowing money?
He sighed and nodded.
…
The next week passed uneventfully.
Since the Chūnin Exams hadn't ended yet, business at Ryo's shop remained slow.
Aside from a few ordinary customers, only a handful of shinobi came to buy energy cubes.
But that wasn't a bad thing. It allowed Ryo and Cynthia to enjoy some peaceful days.
One noteworthy development during the week was that Gardevoir had leveled up to 81, officially reaching Kage-level strength.
Dragonite, however, remained stagnant. Its level felt like it was stuck in place, completely unmoving.
Meanwhile, Espeon gained two levels.
The biggest improvement came from Diancie. In just a week, it had jumped to level 28.
Five of those levels came from consuming a rare fruit, but the rest were purely due to Cynthia's training.
Ryo was amazed. He almost couldn't resist giving Cynthia a kiss in gratitude.
That afternoon, after lunch, Ryo and Cynthia were relaxing in their wooden cabin.
"Ryo, didn't you say the second exam ends today? Shouldn't there be more customers this afternoon?"
Cynthia glanced outside and saw not a single person. She looked at Ryo in confusion.
She didn't know whether to be annoyed or amused.
He actually called me over because he thought we'd be too busy…?
Ryo rolled his eyes. "Just wait a bit longer. They'll be here soon. Besides, you can't spend all your time refining chakra. Overdoing it drains your life force."
He sighed in concern.
Ever since Cynthia learned to refine chakra, she had become obsessed with it.
Every day, after training her Pokémon in the morning, she would spend the rest of her time refining chakra.
The only exception was when Ryo needed help in the shop.
Knowing the risks, Ryo was worried.
If she kept this up, her body wouldn't be able to handle it.
After all, chakra wasn't created from nothing—it came from physical and spiritual energy.
If she kept draining herself without replenishment, there would be serious consequences.
Hearing Ryo's words, Cynthia nodded. "I understand. I'll be more careful."
In truth, she had already started to feel it.
After several days of non-stop chakra refinement, she was beginning to feel discomfort.
Ryo nodded in satisfaction and didn't push the topic further. Instead, he turned his attention toward the door.
Before long, customers arrived.
Ryo immediately stood up with a smile. "Welcome! Are you here to capture a Pokémon?"
Hearing this, Temari's eyes lit up with curiosity. "Boss, we can capture Pokémon too?"
During the second exam, she had learned more about Pokémon and had grown even more intrigued.
As soon as the exam ended, she had asked Baki for directions and rushed over.
At her question, Kankurō and Gaara also turned their attention to Ryo.
Ryo smiled. "Of course! Anyone can capture a Pokémon. But whether you succeed or not depends on you."
"Hmm?"
Temari was thrilled at first but then frowned in confusion. "Boss, can you explain? We don't know much about this."
Ryo nodded and began explaining the rules to them.
After listening, Temari had no issues.
But Kankurō and Gaara frowned.
Kankurō asked, "Boss, can't you just sell us one directly? We can pay you."
Ryo shook his head. "No."
At that moment, Gaara suddenly released a wave of killing intent.
His cold eyes locked onto Ryo. "If that's the case, I'll just kill you."
The room instantly fell silent.
Temari's expression turned anxious, and she furrowed her brows tightly.
She wanted to yell at her brothers.
Are you two idiots?!
Do you really think someone running a shop like this in Konoha is just an ordinary merchant?
Ryo smirked coldly. "Looks like this guest is looking for trouble."
"Wait, wait, boss! I apologize on his behalf!"
Temari quickly stepped in. "He didn't mean it—"
But before she could finish, a mass of sand surged toward Ryo.
Seeing this, she nearly fainted from frustration.
